I saw this on another sub recently and figured I borrow the idea.

Hi all! I’m an incoming professor who’ll be starting in the spring. I’m coming from out East and before I get to SLO I wanna know what are the things I need to know about the students, campus, etc

I’m looking for any and all input on little tidbits on the less know things or things I need to know or should prepare for.

Can’t wait to start at Cal Poly SLO! Thanks!

Coming from a dad with 2 current college students.
1 is at Cal Poly the other is at a large SEC school with easier admissions
This might also be “major dependent”
Cal Poly kid is an accounting major in her 2nd year. She already has an internship lined up for summer 2028 with a large firm. Good money. They came to campus and did interviews. Other firms are actively recruiting her.
SEC kid will graduate in May. She is not seeing anywhere the same level of companies looking to hire college grads. She had an internship this past summer- but didn’t have a ton of options. She is having to reach out to similar type of companies to get on their radar. She is not an accounting major- but wants to work in medical device or healthcare administration.

Bottom line- if you want to work in CA and have a highly desired major- Cal Poly is a very good choice.

Hi,

Does anyone know any courses that could align well with an entrepreneurship minor? None of the ones on the catalog for the minor appeal to me and if they do, they are not offered Spring 2027, my last term here. I was wondering if there’s other courses not mentioned that I could request be accepted as an elective for this minor. Thanks

was wondering if anyone has had experience with the DOR here and how that went for them. i just went to orientation still figuring everything out. insight appreciated

Hey, so I have my spring 2027 schedule appointment at 9am! I rly want to get into a class but right now it has 20/30 open seats! I was wondering the earliest appointment time students may have? Is it possible for someone to have at 8am or 7am?
