CSUEB CS MAJOR STUDENTS!!

• Upvotes

I'm in my last year of finishing my bachelors degree in CS and was wondering if someone wanted to work on a project (that could hopefully be resume worthy) with me :D

I'm also mainly doing this just so that i could also learn from others, and vice versa. I feel like it could also help with team work skills and just highlighting what areas you need help with. HMU if you are interested!

CS498 Internship?

i have a CS internship lined up for spring 2027 but when i emailed my advisor about how i could get credits for my internship instead of having to take another class as one of my electives, she did tell me it was a very long process getting it reviewed and approved.

has anyone had to fill out the paperwork for internships and how long did that process take for you, and how long before the semester start should u wait before filling it out?

thanks!

What degree do you recommend for me?

Does it sound like I may prefer a masters degree in special education, or a masters degree in social work?

I have a goal of making $100-$150k in California (though I honestly might want to move within the next few years. What I really want is to make enough money to live comfortably.) What do you recommend, given that I don’t want to become a nurse or engineer?

I am going to have at least one associates degree (we’ll have to wait to see whether or not I pass my child dev classes this semester) after December ends (whether I fail one of the child development classes or not, I will have a social and behavioral sciences degree. I also already have more than 60 units of community college completed, so I will be able to attend a CSU either way.) I have a 3.87 in community college.

I will be starting a bachelors of social work program in January. I am 21 now and am assuming the program will take two years to complete (I also might end up switching majors but we’ll have to wait and see.)

I am supposed to be starting in January for a bachelors of social work. I have been doing some thinking lately to try and figure out whether or not this is what I really want to do, since it will be time to sign up for classes soon. If I stick with social work I am of course planning to get an MSW and eventually study to become an LCSW.

I have depression and anxiety. I also seem to have a sleep breathing disorder. I am actually going to call the sleep study department tomorrow to request a follow up appointment (this is what my doctor recommended when I asked.) I have headaches over the last couple of months due to the sleeping issues and I definitely think this has impacted my cognition and memory. I have a migraine headache as I type this right now.

The community college class I liked the least was statistics.

I have 2 years experience as a behavior technician. As I was explaining to a professor of mine this week I don’t think I want to stay a behavior technician (though really, who does? I don’t think I want to become a BCBA either though, I know what they do.) I worked at a preschool for a year and four months before then. I know that I don’t want to become a preschool teacher, but I have subbed as a behavior technician with elementary schoolers and I could potentially see myself teaching 4th or 5th grade.

I was generally told that a behavior technician case of mine that I was on for a year where I supported a client who was older and needed support in things like staying on task went well. When I have subbed at elementary schools I have actually enjoyed it and found it to be quite easy, though I believe the students I was paired with had a milder form of autism. I don’t know what I am planning to transition out of in regards to my work as a behavior technician, but I do have plans to start volunteering soon with/for a homelessness shower program.

I may actually eventually move out of California completely.

I think that learning disabilities in schools often go undiagnosed for too long. A professional later on suggested my brother seems to have one, he wasn’t screened professionally in school and in high school when he was struggling with math and his mental health his peers and my parents simply suggested that he was stupid which I’ve never thought was okay.

I helped a friend pick up food for an event she will host to support the homeless community. I volunteered for one of her events before. I will actually practice cooking with her and a different friend (I don’t really know how to cook this weekend.) I think that if I do go into social work I want to do case management for those who need housing resources. I’ve also started to consider the therapist path.

I have to admit that deep down inside I want to figure out how to make as much money as I can without it taking like 6-7 more years. I am already from a low income family. I don’t want to really struggle. I have $30k saved. I’m 21.

I may eventually want to try out living in a different state entirely, but am not sure.

I of course will have to get a bachelors degree first, and so far the plan is to get that degree in social work. I would likely be comfortable with $85-$90k as well. I would be okay with it if I didn’t start out making a significant amount of money but could see pay increase over time.

I am from a lower income family (pretty low income actually, my dad gets some assistance now from a program for veterans.) I have never lived in a house, and think that I would one day like to move into one - but I know that especially with how expensive things are nowadays that won’t be happening for a while.

Social work
I actually recommend trying to go into Psychology even if you weren’t liking the research aspect of it
Bachelors in social work and then masters in special ed.
I would look into CSUEB’s LMFT program later on.
I would look into CSUEB’s school psychology program.
Even if you don’t think you’d be good at it, the speech/language pathology program.

I was accused by the professor of using AI - she said her turnit in says I used AI over 40% but my assignment portal says 3%? Now I am scheduled to meet with her via zoom to discuss this.

What is there to discuss? I did not use AI. Professors are using AI to check for AI and it is not even accurate. Anyone have a similar experience? What are they asking during the zoom?

This is professor Moultry btw.

Is it easier to get in for a masters of social work at CSUEB if you get a BSW here?

r/CSUEB • • 7d ago

How long, if you are a transfer student, does it normally take to get the BSW (bachelors in social work?)

A transfer student who will start in Jan 2027 and is not likely to take summer classes.

I know CSUEB students have their own reserved seats, I was wondering what was the stats in your application when you made it. I was wondering if I really need to get more healthcare hours if my gpa is fine to be honest.

BSN Program - am I competitive enough?

Hi everyone, I’m applying for the pre-licensure BSN program fall 2027 and those are my stats:

I’m in one of the priority groups
TEAS 96%
Overall GPA 4.0
Got a language proficiency proof
I DO NOT HAVE ANY WORK/VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Is it still worth applying? Did anyone here got admitted without work experience?

What majors should I consider other than social work (I’ll be starting my BSW in January?)

I am now at that point in the semester where if everything goes well in two weeks with cooking for a class, I will be all good to earn degrees in child development, early childhood education and social and behavioral sciences (if I fail the chdev class by messing up twice on the rules I will fail that one specific class, but we’ll see what happens. I won’t have to take care of it for another two weeks.)

I actually visited the campus yesterday with a friend and her friend. the campus is beautiful. It was my first time seeing it. One of the girls I met there yesterday suggested she changed her major 3 times since she first started there.

I was thinking about going into social work because I actually really want to make an impact and support the homeless community. I am planning on volunteering with homeless people, apparently a local shelter opens in December and I want to step in and support. I may want to do case management to support people who have housing needs. I have seen my family nearly face eviction before due to my mother’s poor behavior (screaming daily and triggering the neighbors, the police suspected she had a psychotic break and my brother has schizophrenia) and I felt that the housing authority was not supportive enough when it came to this. Facing eviction can already be a stressful time for families, and it is awful to feel like people aren’t responding to you or trying to help you come up with a solution when your family may be in need. I have never actually seriously considered becoming a therapist, but when I was doing research on it yesterday I found myself realizing that I would be open to the idea. As I Google case management now I am seeing that even with a masters degree the salary range just isn’t quite where I would want it to be. It seems like therapy is moreso where the money is at if you’re going to stick to a social work major, but I want to be frugal and know I want to make a difference at the same time. It seems like the roles you can get in CA with a BSW don’t pay much better than what i make now as a behavior technician without an associates degree, which isn’t promising. I definitely want to be in the $90k-$150k range if I can help it. I really do want to help people.

I have 2 years of behavior technician experience, and 1yr 4 months experience as an associate preschool teacher.

I am definitely an introvert.

What role in the social work field seems like it would work well for me?

I am going to start a BSW in January (I of course can always change the major. I’ll actually be 21 like I am now when I start it, and will be 22 by the time my 1st semester is all finished up.) I had thought that the coursework for social work looked more interesting than the social work for psychology (I don’t really like the research oriented side of psychology.)

I have been a behavior technician for 2 years now. I worked at a preschool for a year and four months before then. I am actually thinking about transitioning out of being a behavior technician, but I can’t quite figure out what I would want to do instead. I actually do find certain aspects of being a behavior technician rewarding however.

I don’t think that I plan on becoming a preschool teacher in the longrun even though I will be earning associates degrees in early childhood education, child development, and social and behavioral sciences. I am volunteering at a preschool right now and even though I have really enjoyed working with the children, I have generally felt like working in a preschool setting can be stressful at times (I don’t think it’s uncommon to feel this way) and I don’t think at this point that it’s my thing even though I actually can have quite a bit of fun working with kids.

I have really enjoyed attending a friend’s events for the unhoused population. I will be attending their next one and am actually going to help buy things for it (food.) I don’t have a “problem” with approaching homeless people like some do, I approached a homeless woman a few weeks ago who was crying and gave her $20, gave her my number when she asked for it and told her I could provide resources.

A friend of mine suggested to me that I tend to talk when it can be best for there to be silence in the moment, but didn’t mean this as an insult more of like a growth mindset thing. She had additionally suggested that I am “niche.” I am introverted, though some people feel that I talk a lot. I really believe in effective communication and think that a lot of issues in life can be resolved by talking it through.

I was in a rehab center once because I have a family member who was in one. It was not a great rehab center and I sensed they did not do a great job of helping the people in it get to the root of their issues. But I remember I actually did not like the feeling of being there because I was afraid, but I think it was partly the vibe I was getting from the men. This was about two years ago.

I have sleeping issues and have something close to sleep apnea. I use a CPAP to help with this, but I tend to look pretty tired and am hoping that before I start a masters degree in anything (have to get that bachelors first) I will have properly addressed my sleeping issues with my primary care physician.

I have a 3.87 in community college, though I took 4 summer classes and had really overwhelmed myself (I will never take all those summer classes again.)

I was generally told that a role wherein I worked with an adult who had autism and another disability went well.

I am actually dealing with a SA case right now that took place when I was babysitting for a long term and would be happy to support women who have experienced this in any capacity. My mother is an unstable person and my older brother has schizophrenia, so I have seen psychosis take place first hand and wish there were more resources for my brother and more people in his life who really cared about helping him address his trauma.

Middle Class Scholarship

How do we know if we are receiving the MCS? I read that it usually comes in October, but I don't see a disbursement date in my FA. Is there a way to check if I'm actually going to receive it? I see it in my FA as offered but does not give me the option to accept it.

How do you make an appointment as a new student to enroll in classes for the upcoming semester?

I don’t know who to reach out to. I actually had a counseling appointment last month and I seem to remember they had told me that I needed to look out on my portal for the appointment. I reached out to a counselor here and he had emailed me a department but they did not respond to me.

I also have a separate question that I would like to ask anyone who is comfortable chatting over private message.

I got in for a 2nd’s bachelor and was wondering if the major courses are mostly online. And are they synchronous or asynchronous?

Any other info would help!
