Hi everyone! I just released OpenCDi v0.1.6, an open-source Philips CD-i emulator written in Rust.
This update represents a major leap forward in **game compatibility** (especially for Digital Video Cartridge titles), introduces **full Video CD (White Book) support**, and completely overhauls **gamepad/cursor responsiveness**.
Highlights in v0.1.6:
**1. Major Game Compatibility & DVC Enhancements**
* ***The 7th Guest* Progression Fix:** Overcame the critical post-ghost cutscene lockup (`avm_play: Still busy from last play $8000`). Temporary audio drains now strictly assert hardware underflow (`FMA_IRQ_UNF`) rather than premature `EOI`, allowing disc streaming to reach the authentic second EOR marker and unlocking full hallway progression.
* **Automatic DVC Detection:** The Digital Video Cartridge is now fitted by default whenever `vmpega.rom` is present. This fixes "Cartridge not found" blocks on titles like *Kingdom: The Far Reaches*, *Mutant Rampage: BodySlam*, and *Ultra CD-i Soccer*.
* **Seamless Multi-Disc Hot-Swapping:** You can now swap discs on the fly without resetting system RAM or CPU state, making multi-disc games like *Creature Shock* (Disc 1 -> Disc 2) fully playable.
**2. Full Video CD (White Book) & Multi-Track Support**
* **Multi-File `.cue`/`.bin` Layouts:** Added complete support for complex multi-track disc images with separate audio/video tracks (tested with *Kilby Predicts*, *Gateway to the Mind*, and standard VCD releases).
* **CD-Bridge Support:** Implemented dynamic Subcode Q TOC packet generation for authentic CD-RTOS CD-Bridge format handling.
**3. Smooth Gamepad Navigation & Slave MCU Accuracy**
* **Goodbye Cursor Snapping:** Fixed the abrupt jumping across 8 pre-set screen coordinates in the dashboard. Input now runs at a smooth, continuous 2.5 px/frame powered by `f32` sub-pixel accumulators with zero drift on release.
* **Slave MCU (68HC05) Packet Staging:** Added queued staging for in-flight CH0 mouse/pad packets, proper 3-byte `C0` warp command decoding, and clean mouse/gamepad mutual exclusion.

This was one system that I didn't plan on purchasing. The rarity and expense of this console and games can be quite off putting. I found this at a little retro shop I frequent. Working Cd-I 450. I received Paint School 2 with it and he happened to have 1 other game, The Palm Springs Open. Looking to find a Hotel Mario and try out one of the most obscure Mario games! Maybe even a Zelda if the price was right. Just wondering if you all have any certain websites with games avaliable (besides ebay) that you use?

I recently bought a Philips CDI 450 that can't read discs. One thing I noticed is that the status shown in the menu is always stuck on "DISC." Supposedly, when the disc tray latch is open, the status should change to "OPEN," but it stays on "DISC" regardless of whether the latch is open or closed.
I checked the latch switch with a multimeter, and it seems to be working correctly. When the switch isn't pressed, it outputs 5V to pin 4 of IKAT. When pressed, the voltage drops to 0V. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I really hope that IKAT chip is not malfunctioning, there's no replacement for that as far as i know.

Nobody is talking about it but I think it's pretty huge news.
As of a few days ago, the CD-i DVC (Digital Video Cartridge) was implemented in MAME. You'll have to wait for the next version of MAME (.290) to have it included, unless you're capable of compiling the source from github (which I did.)
I never owned a CD-i in the 90s, but I always read about it in the gaming mags back then, so I think it's awesome this is finally emulated and liberated. No longer are we stuck with that time-gated and pay-gated CDiemu!
I streamed a couple videos of it on youtube under "nirvgorilla" if you want to see it in action.

To me it's one of the most pretty games on CD-I but it's incredibly hard. A more fair difficulty option would be nice as the gameplay is basic, but fun. It shows how good platformers could be on CD-I.

The optical lense seems to not work and the laser part doesnt automatically move back to where it’s supposed to be so I assumed the entire component was broken and ordered a new optical lense, the DK 80. Managed to connect everything together yet the cd jerks and immediately comes to a stop. Am I meant to desolder this bump? Is it stopping a function? Or is it maybe an entirely separate issue with the system that won’t read my cd. I’m stumped as I can’t find much help online
