Political/Election Posting, Moderation, and You
There's been a lot of complaining (more than the usual large amount) about mods adhering to the "avoid repetitive topics" and "rediquette" rules.
Political and election posts bring out the absolute worst in this sub and some of the posters in it, which is where we see these rules continually skirted if not outright broken.
"Free Speech" does not mean "I can say and post whatever I want without moderation or consequences." Nobody in this subreddit is going to face legal issues or have their lives altered for voicing their opinions. However, as stewards of this online community, moderators may remove comments or posts that they see as being counter to the health of the community as explicated by the community's rules.
Part of why so many people enjoy being subscribed to r/Burlington is that it is a positive, fun, and supportive community -- not just a dumping ground for crime panic, police reports, political demagoguery, insults, and arguing. Mods are dedicated to keeping it that way within reason. If you would prefer that there be a subreddit where these things are the predominant topics, we would suggest the sub that warm bathroom guy came up with. You'll be right at home there.
There has also been a pervasive brigading issue regarding political posting in this sub that's been going on for years -- ever notice how political posts of a certain viewpoint tend to get a fantastically large amount of engagement compared to every other post in this sub?
Mods are trying to keep this sub from becoming like Facebook, where the only content is manipulated outrage and shouting over political wedge issues cooked up by posters who'd rather have Reddit karma than a functional community.

Flora & fauna on church st
What’s the deal with this place? I went the other day for the first time, was going to purchase a bone and asked staff where it was sourced/if it was ethical. Absolutely nobody could answer me, and straight up one lady said “she had no clue”. Which is strange to me. Very strange. Anyone had any experience here?

Venues for a party for a toddler?
Our kiddo is turning 2 this winter! Besides the obvious answer of our home, we are wondering if there are any places families have had bday parties for their young toddlers (our home is our backup plan, but it's very small and the layout is not very conducive to parties).
ECHO would be great/we love going there but I'm wondering if they're still a little too young for a party there? I think we are also still too young for monkey do. A park would be ideal, but it will be freezing by birthday time.
Any thoughts or recs at all are appreciated--it kind of seems like all the kid play spaces/venues might just be suited better for slightly older toddlers, but I could be wrong!

Found Property or Animal Found Cat ONE
This sweet black and white cat showed up in my yard at the end of september. She sits and cries in my yard and my neighbors yard at random times of day. When we first met she would see me and cry but run away if I approached. She’s warmed and comes asking for attention and food a few times a day. She’s still really skiddish and is asking to come inside now. With no collar, fleas, and her behavior I’m concerned she’s lost

Lost Cat in ONE - Orange Tabby
Got out on Tuesday 10/20 close to Barrio Coffee/Jake’s Market in the Old North End. Large, fluffy orange tabby, and has bald spots on both sides of his belly where fur is growing in unevenly. Typically super friendly and food motivated but likely terrified since he’s an indoor cat. Please message with any sightings or if you’re able to grab him!

RIP Little Black Kitty on N. Willard
While driving on N. Willard Monday afternoon, a car in the oncoming lane ran over and killed a beautiful little black kitty and just continued on their way. I witnessed kitty getting hit and then bolting to the sidewalk where she took her last breath. I am so grateful that after just a few minutes my friend and I were able to find the owners of the kitty who understandably so were absolutely devastated. This sweet girl was so loved by her family.
To the driver of the vehicle that hit her, shame on you. The least you could have done was stop and see if there was anything you could do and make an attempt to find the owners.

does anyone know how much Pizzeria Ida is trying to sell their "turnkey operation" for?
I see the weekly instagram stories trying to convince some poor schmuck to take over his lease but curious if anyone knows how much money he's trying to get.

What happened to Leo and Company’s menu
They used to offer so many creative sandwich and salad options (photo for reference) and now they just have a cuban, turkey, and chicken salad and a couple vegan options, and every time I’ve gone in lately half of the menu is sold out. Staff are nice and food is good enough but for how expensive the place is you’d think there’d be more variety. This menu is still up on their google and it’s not accurate at all

omg THE CROWS
A few times a year it seems like the crow council of New England throws a party, and they all end up getting rowdy, making noise all night, and pooping all over my car.
I mean, I think crows are cool, but jeez.

Show posters
Burlington Records said the don’t buy posters anymore. Who does? The guy I spoke to said I could try Speaking Volumes but didn’t make it sound promising. It’s a lot of Ween, CRB, Phil Lesh & Friends, and a couple other bands. Mostly Ween. Like a couple dozen Ween posters. I love Ween but there’s no way I need all of these.

Church Bells?
Everytime I'm downtown, I hear church bells a few minutes before the hour. Does anyone know which church is ringing them, and why they aren't exactly on the hour? Thanks!

Reasonable Gun Owners
Hey all —- I’m looking for recommendations on a few shops that might be a reasonable/safe shop for a queer woman to go in and speak to someone about reasonable protection. This is not a post about what qualifies as reasonable gun ownership, I’m seriously looking for recommendations for shops that might be helpful here. Thanks in advance, I know 2A conversations are not this sub’s favorite topic

woolen mill honest heating cost
Hey there, I have read all the archived posts I can find about the woolen mill, I understand the cons to the place (thin walls, expensive heating/cooling) but I have yet to see anyone actually say how much their electric bills are. I understand some people don't like to share that but if anyone out there feels like sharing, can you please tell me what your average electric bill looks like? My boyfriend and I are considering it despite the somewhat negative reviews because on paper it is the perfect place for us.
