Alfie insisted that it would go well and Benedict would recognize her. And that Lady Penwood does not signify. But do you think this is true? Would Lady Penwood not just get her arrested for impersonating nobility?

Show Discussion A (sad) theory for the Violet spinoff Spoiler

Post image
238 Upvotes

So I've been thinking about how the Violet spinoff will be structured since it was announced. How long will it be (6 eps like QC or a standard 8), what the B plots will be, if there will be flash-forwards like in QC, etc. However, when thinking about what scenes will be there in terms of references to the main show, a gut-punch idea hit me.

What if towards the last episode, we see a scene of older Violet, pregnant with Hyacinth, lounging around having breakfast in the parlor. Edmund comes and says good morning to her, and she asks what he's up to that day. And he says...he's going out for a hunt with Anthony. He kisses her goodbye, says he'll see her later, and we see a lingering look at her serene face smiling after him.

Flashcut to a Violet POV shot of her standing at the top of the steps, Anthony holding Edmund on the ground, both of them blurry (just in case Johnathan Bailey can't be present).

Crushing, yes. If this comes to fruition, I will legit cry a river and then some.

Show Discussion I don't think Eloise marrying Phillip means giving up her freedom

I don’t like the notion of Eloise being with Phillip meaning she loses her freedom or independence. In fact I think getting married even for show Eloise is probably the best thing for her.

Eloise currently has no real autonomy or independence just like the audience thinks lol. She’s still under Anthony Kate and Violet. She can avoid getting married because they let her, go on her rants because they’re supportive and let her and do what she wants because they love her and let her. I think this is where people confuse being accommodated with being independent.

Her family loves her and gives her room to be herself but they still have authority over her life. If Anthony decided Eloise was getting married and picked the first man he came across she would have very little say in the matter. Even if she remained a spinster her ability to live that way would depend on her family being willing to accommodate her. The freedom the audience thinks she has is largely a result of her family allowing her to have it. Not excusing it obviously.

This is why I find it annoying when people act like Eloise getting married automatically means losing her freedom. She’s already in a cage albeit one with a little more room to move around in.

Obviously marriage could restrict her even more but remaining unmarried doesn’t automatically make her free either. What matters is the kind of life she gets to live and how much control she has over it.

What Eloise needs is a marriage where she can hold on to her beliefs pursue her interests and have a partner who respects and supports her. This is why I’m not opposed to Phillip. Phillip has the potential to give her the kind of support and room to be herself that she needs even more than her family does.

I also find it interesting that people think Eloise can only be independent if she remains unmarried. Why is a woman who is still under her family’s authority automatically freer than one who marries someone who respects her autonomy?

If we’re going to talk about Eloise’s freedom and independence then we also need to acknowledge the hold her family has over her life and not just focus on marriage. Her family is part of the same system limiting her choices even when they love and support her. I just find it interesting that the audience is so worried about marriage taking away her independence when she doesn’t really have that much to begin with lol.

Show Discussion Bring Daphne Back

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

Let’s bring this diamond back, she needs to be in S5 and S6 for her younger sisters it just seems absurd that she’s been missing all this time. I feel like we just need to all spam Tom Verica, Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes’ Instagram and let them know we want her back because I love Bridgerton and all the seasons, but the fact that a Bridgerton sibling is not involved like that anymore is just strange. The whole show is a family ensemble. I’m actually not fussed if Simon came back because he’s not a Bridgerton sibling and I wouldn’t be so against recasting him but she definitely definitely needs to be back and I think that they need to know a lot of people want her back as part of the family, it just feels way too odd like for god sake she’s missed weddings, children’s births and funerals it’s a bit insane now.

the fact that when he was stung by the bee, he was looking for flowers for violet and even when he was dying in her arms, the way he looked at her and cupped her cheek…god, it was so difficult to watch the first time and every time since then as well!šŸ˜šŸ’—my heart aches so bad for them :( violet’s crying ALWAYS guts me in this scene, such incredible acting. yes, i’m excited for how their epic love story began, how they fell for each other and ended up making such a beautiful life for themselves with so many kids but there can only be so much happiness when you know what’s coming!! cannot wait but also? not ready for the tears this will bring. this is gonna be as painful or even worse than what the queen charlotte series did to mešŸ’”

Show Discussion Violet is a bad Girl Mom Spoiler

Post image
531 Upvotes

As much as I love violet, which is a lot, I think she is a horrible girl mom.
We have watched this woman talk to her sons about pretty much anything, she confronted Anthony about having a mistress, also Benedict about him being a rake and how he should be careful about not getting any of his ā€œwomenā€ pregnant.

And yet this woman, witnessed first hand not talking about sexual and marital relationships did to her first daughter, and how miserable she became and somehow ended up avoiding the talk with Fran in season 4, when Fran literally went to her mom, someone that she trusts, begging for help.

This woman has 8 children and we saw her finding some sort of pleasure with Lord Anderson, and yet somehow can’t get herself to talk to her daughter who’s in desperate need of some guidance after she already failed her first daughter (Daphne literally confronted her about it)
And she keep pressuring Eloise into getting married. Now I’ve read Eloise’s story whatsoever however we see how accepting John or Michaela’s family are of her decision to become a spinster, and while we know that that’s mostly because they’re aware of her sexuality, why can’t Violet just listen to her daughter’s for once?
Eloise also had crashed out in season 2 about how her rebellious tendencies aren’t just a phase.

And in Queen Charlotte we see that young Violet is such a fierce and logical girl, standing up to her mom about Lord Danbury, which again I understand that she was pure and didn’t even see where her mom’s rejection came from.

Still, I love love love Ruth Gemmell, and I’d love to see where Violet’s avoidant tendencies started in her spin-off.
But I can’t help but feel frustrated and how she fails her daughters one after another.

Edit:

I understand the challenge of that time and era, and in no way I will imply that Portia was a good mom, however even Portia explained to her daughters how to have sex to get pregnant in season 3 after she realized they don't know what they're doing.
Violet witness Francesca's desperation and just blabbered some random words and moved on and never even asked her if she got her answers.
Even Penelope, a newly married woman who’s the same age as Francesca was worried and shocked when she realized someone who got married at the same time as her has absolutely no idea what an orgasm is.
Violet at the VERY LEAST should’ve asked Fran if everything was ok at home and with John.

Edit 2:

It just feels like the show has this break out of jail key that is the ā€œtimeā€.
Whatever criticism that it receives is either met with ā€œWell it’s because of the time and eraā€ or ā€œwell it’s not historically accurateā€ whichever one helps the case.

Show Discussion Do you guys think the Rokesbys will appear in Violet and Edmund's spin-off?

Post image
163 Upvotes

I really think this spin-off will serve to introduce the idea of an adaptation of the Rokesbys series. I don't see how they wouldn't appear; Nicholas Rokesby is literally Edmund's best friend, and Edmund's two sisters marry a Rokesby. Netflix won't miss the opportunity to further expand the Bridgerton universe. Without Stranger Things, they need another major series besides Bridgerton.

Show Discussion I hope they don't turn Edmund into a rake and let him be inexperienced

Post image
4.3k Upvotes

I’m just a bit tired of all the male romantic leads being rakes, it would be nice to switch things up a little and have something different. Although Edmund and Violet don’t have a book of their own, they do feature in a short story Julia Quinn released as part of a special Bridgerton novella, it’s revealed in that story that Edmund was a virgin when he married, which I found really sweet and unique. Edmund and his best friend, Nicholas Rokesby, are the only virgin male leads in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton universe. So, I hope they keep that detail.

Show Discussion With news of the Violet Bridgerton Spinoff, will they fixt the continuity error created in Queen Charlotte?

Her birth year was established in Bridgerton as 1761, which puts her at 47 at the start of Bridgerton. However, in Queen Charlotte, she was portrayed as a young girl in 1766, which suddenly bumps her age up and creates a whole host of continuity errors. She should have been 5 then!

I wonder if they will fix this for her spinoff, or if they're just gonna roll with the retcon and age her up to be closer to Ruth Gemmell's age.
