So, I'm going to be somewhat disrespectful and blunt in this post, so I apologize to the mods before hand.
Recently, I've been seeing a ton of y'all complaining about Brett's new videos and the shift in her general content, and I wanted to make this post in defense of Brett. And before any of you start with this bullshit: nobody is blocking you from having a different opinion.
#1 - Political Commentary
Brett's political commentary has become a pretty rare site these days, and she has explained that that is mostly due to her burnout with seeing the lies and hypocrisy within politics these days between both sides. On on the constant fighting and arguing that goes on, and she is seemingly burned out and has stepped away from covering things as much as she did.
Now, has she completely stopped talking on political issues? No; a number of her videos are still talking about woke people, culture, and socio-political things adjacently, but they aren't the main focus of her videos anymore. I see why this bothers people here, as Brett herself has specifically acknowledged that people on reddit specifically want to see more political commentary, but that's just not where she's at currently.
I'd also like to say that the people claiming that Brett's entire career was built on politics is not true. Brett has always been the pop culture girl of political commentary, she has never been a political commentator the likes of Ben Shapiro or even Candace Owens. She talked about politics a lot, yes, but her content was maybe 60/40 in favor of politics. Some of her best performing videos on Comments Section was literally politically adjacent and pop culture, the same thing she's covering now. So this sudden push to act like she's switched up so much is weird.
#2 - Content Switch/Format
Brett has explicitly said a few times now that she has adopted a new thought process with how she makes her videos. She is not just going to talk about a story for the sake of a story; she wants to be able to develop a deeper and more meaningful overarching thing to say on this topic or cultural phenomenon. A good recent example of this is her recent video about Gen Z dating. Whether you liked or disliked the video, that is what Brett is going for and I think she nailed it in that commentary.
From all the complaints I hear, a lot of you seem selfishly upset that Brett is not being the exact archetype of influencer that you want her to be. Your complaints often amount to you all insulting Brett personally via her integrity or her intellect in order to explain why she has certain takes, and that's simply disgusting.
You are free to disagree with her; nobody is telling you you can't. What you should not be doing is acting like Brett is some political hack because of her views.
#3 - Lack of Audience Grace/Understanding
The more I listen to you all complain, the more I'm convinced that you all were never actually fans of Brett. If you were, then you would understand where she's coming from on a lot of things and you'd ideally be a lot less quick to accuse her of things.
Let's take the Cornell 7 video.
First off, Brett literally stated at the start that the show was going to be about personal responsibility, self control, and risk assessment and she said it a few times throughout the story. That is a major theme that she's highlighted throughout her career, probably a defining trait at this point. However you feel about the case, the Jane Doe involved very clearly lacked in all 3 of those areas. She chose to drink underage, she chose to drink to the point of being blackout, she chose to do drugs, she chose to enter into an orgy/threesome/gangbang, and she chose to do ketamine off a guy's dick. At no point before it set in that her reputation was ruined did she dispute or deny her consent to any of this. On top of that, she made went out of her way to defend these guys in her texts but now she's suddenly suing everyone, including her sorority, for not keeping her from doing all of this. I'm sorry, but this is the perfect story to talk about personal responsibility. That's not to mention that she spent a whole section talking about how these behaviors (sex, drug use, drinking) are bad and hazardous in general (meaning it applies to both genders).
Second, the accusations that she lacked empathy are complete delusion. Once again, Brett made it clear from the start of her career that she wants to have more empathy for people and that she's taking active steps in her work to show that. At no point in her video did she neglect that. She talked about the case carefully and deliberately, and never once said or had a bad tone about Jane Doe. So this idea that she handled the girl incorrectly or recklessly is just untrue.
In conclusion to all this, there is nothing wrong with not vibing with Brett's new direction. It's okay to not agree with all of her takes. But speculating about her lack of character when nothing she's done has indicated as such makes you all look delusional.
Brett's nose may be big, but she is not your performing monkey.
