Yeah that's kinda the thing with flying cars. You don't want every drunk driver to be able to re-enact 9/11.

Yes, this seems the obvious reason why they’ve not been invented. Although M*sk seems to think that’s just a trifling matter given the comments he made on the night.

wtf can’t I even use his name 🙄

Dude kept promising FSD was right around the corner for damn near a decade and we are still aren't to what he has promised.

We are pretty much there.

And by we, I mean his competitors.

And by there, I mean Waymo can drive about as well as a senior citizen.

Honestly, I'll take it. That's good enough. Give em their own lanes like an HOV lane, but make it physically separated from the others. It'd basically just be a tram system where you can decide "now I'm not on a tram" and start driving again.

Do that in just the highways of various cities and I'll be fucking thrilled. IDC if I go slower, let me read a book instead of contemplating about how much life is spent in traffic.

Yeah itwiuld also be amazing to see it stretch out, but if I never have to drive in Dallas traffic or wait in LA traffic, or I'm any scenario similar, again in my life it'd be worth it.

They've actually been invented loads of times, but never found much of a market

People just don't know helocopters exist, or maybe they expect everyone to have flying cars, as if everybody can be trusted with normal cars in the first place.

Imagine some creep flying down and snatching your kid like he's at the drive thru. Doesn't even need to get out, just tilt the car above them and they're gone, and the only reason they were caught is because every car has cameras in the cabin, cause there's no way this is getting through without a ton of surveillance, for better and for worse.

Yeah I don't trust society to not use this for evil somehow....

23

u/nickcash 11h ago

society will never use it for evil because it's never getting produced

u/ikillpcparts 15h ago

Well, only people who receive an invite can buy the version of the car that does this.

7

u/TalentTess 12h ago

Somehow that doesn't make me feel better....

an invite from a billionaire or people associated with them? yeah we're fucked

The reason we don't have flying cars has never been a technical one. A pilot's license is so much more difficult to get than a driving license for a very good reason.

Ultralights exist and are cheap. No license required

15

u/Euphoric-Rip-1521 10h ago

Ultralights are also much more likely to kill you than anyone else, hence the lower licensing requirements.

"some dipshit who is 400th in line to the throne of Al Falasi"
or
"bangs a key of coke the size of a ziggurat"

This billionaire never played GTA and it shows.

6

u/TalentTess 12h ago

Nono. He did, but he was too much of a pussy to assault the tiny cops on his computer, so he couldn't progress.

Dude will make everything except a train.

Introducing PodChain! Scalable interlinked pods that can transport many people at once! Running along dual steel monorails! Pulled by a Locomotion PowerPod!

5

u/Angel24Marin 12h ago

He is so scared of other people that the pods will be individual.

I mean… other people are just the worst, so…

u/GoldHoney2863 11h ago

Oh Tesla drumming up a new marketing campaign for a product that’ll never come out to drive up stock prices? Where have I seen this before…

We've had flying cars for decades. They are called helicopters and rich people have been dying in them since it was possible to privately own them.

u/immatellyouwhat 12h ago

His cars already fly into people’s houses.

5

u/thevaultguy 13h ago

If you ride in a Elron Sky car, that’s on you. A news chopper piloted by a drunk in the Smokey hills is more safe.

2

u/SemajLu_The_crusader 8h ago

so many people are gonna die, huh?

A key of coke "the size of a ziggurat"? That's one small ziggurat.

Edit: wrong kind of key but my assessment still remains valid.

5

u/RSA123 13h ago

"key" meant key-bump (the bump you take off your car keys as you drive).

1

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 6h ago

My mistake. I was unaware of that terminology.

2

u/Nuka-Crapola 14h ago

… I didn’t realize what “key” meant until I read your comment, but yeah, someone’s hands got ahead of their brain there. Personally, I suspect they meant shape of a ziggurat.

2

u/Weareoutofmilkagain 9h ago

That is not what a key is. When you're in a club without a flat surface it's common to use your keys to move the cocaine from bag to nose.

That’s an awesome idea for YouTube video, get this over to Cody at Whistlen Diesel or Steve at the Hamilton Collection, maybe it will be a collaboration?

How about putting all this genius toward curing cancer or something that might actually benefit the species?

u/Will-Conroy 4h ago

Me and the boys snorting fat neolithic barrows in the cubicle.

If you want to “9/11 the Burj Kalifa” you have to rig the whole elevator shaft with thermite explosive…
