How generous is BU with financial aid for transfer students? Does applying for aid hurt admission chances?
Hi everyone! I'm currently a freshman at another university and considering applying to BU as a transfer for Fall 2027.
One of my biggest concerns is financial aid. I know BU is pretty expensive, and ideally, I'd need my total cost of attendance (tuition, housing, meals, etc.) to be under $60k per year for it to be financially realistic. I also will likely be off campus if that changes anything.
I've heard mixed things about how generous BU is with financial aid for transfer students compared to first-year applicants.
I had a few questions:
- Does applying for financial aid make it harder to get accepted as a transfer? I've heard BU might be need-aware for transfers, but I'm not sure. I wouldn't need a huge amount of aid, just enough to bring the total cost below $60k.
- How generous is BU with need-based financial aid for transfer students?
- For those who transferred, how much aid did you receive, and what was your approximate total cost after aid?
- Im guessing financial aid is significantly worse for transfers compared to incoming freshmen?
I'd especially appreciate hearing from transfer students who applied for financial aid and whether they felt it affected their admissions chances.
Thanks in advance!

Could anyone let me accompany them?
Hey. I’m really struggling with severe isolation lately, alongside some personal difficulties, and I’m trying to not isolate myself further.
I don’t really know many people here, and I’d genuinely appreciate a little company, even the simplest things like walking together or letting me just tag along would mean a lot to me.
I’m still trying to understand how to communicate and put myself out, so I may take some time and may be anxious and reserved, but I’m happy just being around people, please bear with me.
If anyone would be kind enough to want to spending some time with me, I’d really appreciate that.
Thank you

UMASS student looking for advice
I'm a freshman at Umass Dartmouth right now and want to transfer for my sophomore year fall into CAS as an Econ Major and i really just want any advice.
I have a 4.0 GPA currently majoring in Finance and in highschool had a 3.94/4.14gpa and ranked 13/110 in my class
i worked a coop job as an electrician during highschool for 2 years and no SAT/ACT
I'm founder and president of the Recreational Sports Club ive gotten a decent amount of ppl to join and we have weekly activities like pickleball, spikeball, volleyball, etc
I am a first year member of DECA and plan to compete at states and nationals this year in financial modeling
I am also in a catholic ministry club and do volunteer work at my church like the electrical wiring for our big annual festival
I self study a lot and do a lot of journaling and research on my major, and i do financial reporting for my dad's small construction company for practice. Im looking for an internship rn but im stuck on how i can work my study beyond my academics into my essay/application.
I went to UMD for the price, scholarships, location, and the student managed fund. the year i got here they actually made the fund a class instead of a club, so i could no longer join as it was reserved for upperclassmen and instead of being a group its now just a class u take for 3 months which really disappointed me
im gonna mention how much i value extracurricular clubs like BUFC where i can be surrounded by people with similar interest/drive and its really important to me to learn in an environment like that whereas i lost that opportunity by going to my current Uni.
I was thinking about writing my essay about how i really want to attend BU because i've learned how where i study is so significant to my future and not just what im studying. going to BU would open so much more opportunity to me and i will talk about the clubs i plan on joining and the classes i plan to take during my time at BU but lmk if u have any advice on this topic for my essay.
Thank you i appreciate any advice!

Admissions im eager to move from BC to BU as soon as possible. pls help w transfer info and thanks
self explanatory title. BC can be great but simply not my fit and that’s okay. would prefer not explain too much. pls if someone has knowledge/experience with transferring especially Mechanical Engineering. this semester might end with a 3.7 or 3.3 GPA (working for the 3.7 ofc).
I’m currently on freshman and have been going to AFROTC, really liked the program but might drop it on sophomore bc I know BU engineering already has a lot of workload and also other reasons.
I understand now it meets demonstrated financial aid for transfers. also got waitlisted BU before but just chose BC.
if anyone pls has any recent experience/knowledge it would be appreciated, or any info or comment overall to chat ! it’s just that I have visited many times BU and love how it looks, the program, and many of the people there. just to clarify this is not hate to BC in specific or anything like that
thanks in advance !!

Shitpost have a huge crush on a guy I’ve met ONCE at bu fitrec and I don’t even know his name 😭 HELP
Okay, I feel so silly posting this, but I met this guy at BU FitRec and he is SO CUTE. 😭 I’ve literally only seen him once, but for some reason, he’s been on my mind ever since.
We made eye contact, and he looked at me and I looked at him. That’s literally all that happened, LMAO. 💀 I don’t even know his name, and I’m way too shy to approach him.
I’m hoping I’ll run into him again, but I don’t want to keep crushing on a stranger and never do anything about it. 😭
Has anyone been in this situation? How do you approach a cute guy at the gym without making things awkward, especially when you don’t even know if he’s interested? Should I just smile at him next time or actually try to start a conversation?
Please help a shy girl out because I fear I’m already delusional over a man whose NAME I DON’T KNOW. 😭💀

For anyone trying out the new Indian food in GSU
TAWA TOTALLY SUCKS. The curries available in Nud Pob feel more Indian in taste and it’s THAI cuisine and they don’t even list the pricing on their screening. So I ended up wasting 12 dollars on food that was absolute garbage and in no way Indian 😍😍

what do you dislike about bu?
i’m a senior applying for next year. boston university is my dream school but i’m trying to get out of that mindset so i’m not totally crushed about getting rejected and it’s not affordable for me regardless. i think i just need a grounded take about it so it stops being this super awesome perfect college you know what i mean. i’ve seen a lot of people complain about the campus and weather but it’s not something i mind, and lack of football lol (love hockey). apart from that and the obvious expensive tuition, what are the cons of going here?

MA 124 grade distribution
I'm currently taking MA124 w Panth/Rohrlich and I the syllabus didn't mention the eventual grade disruption on the letter scale. To people who've taken this class, know about this - is it curved in this class usually or is it normally a set distribution? Cause we just got our midterms back and I got a 91 and like if I ended with roughly low 90's would that be a B+/A-/A?
