Image Is this kind of hat ok to wear during the Boston fall/winter with a jacket?
Moving to MA for college and just wondering if this hat is ok or generally not in the aesthetic

One thing that doesn't get talked about enough when moving into older Boston-area apartments is how difficult it can be to get certain pieces of furniture through narrow staircases.
And sometimes, the problem isn't even the staircase itself. It's the landing, the ceiling clearance, or that one awkward turn between floors.
A queen-size box spring might fit through the front door perfectly, only to become impossible to maneuver around a tight corner upstairs.
Large couches can create the same problem.
It's especially worth considering in older buildings around Boston, Somerville, Cambridge, and neighboring communities.
Before purchasing oversized furniture for an apartment above the first floor, it's worth checking more than just the doorway measurements.
The dimensions of the stairwell, turning space, ceiling clearance, and whether the furniture can be safely disassembled can make a significant difference.
And sometimes, the safest decision is simply acknowledging that a piece won't fit without risking damage.
I'm posting this from Premium Q Moving & Storage, a Boston-area moving company. We've been discussing the challenges of tight staircases and oversized furniture, and I thought it would be interesting to hear other people's experiences.
What's the most difficult piece of furniture you've ever tried to get into or out of a Boston apartment?
Was it a couch, a box spring, a refrigerator, or something completely unexpected?

Boston is an amazing place to live, but relocating here can involve a few logistical surprises, especially if you're coming from a city with easier parking and newer apartment buildings.
Here are five things worth knowing before your move.
1. Parking Can Be More Complicated Than the Move Itself
In neighborhoods like Back Bay, Beacon Hill, and South Boston, finding legal space for a moving truck can be challenging.
Check the city's temporary moving permit requirements ahead of time.
2. Some Apartment Buildings Require Elevator Reservations
Many managed buildings have designated moving hours and may require proof of insurance from your moving company.
Confirm these requirements before scheduling your move.
3. September 1 Is a Major Moving Date
Boston's rental market experiences significant turnover around September 1.
If you're relocating during late August or early September, planning ahead is especially important.
4. Older Buildings Can Have Narrow Staircases
Boston has plenty of beautiful older properties, but some have narrow hallways, tight corners, and challenging staircases.
Measure large furniture before moving day.
5. Your Lease Dates Might Not Line Up
If your current lease ends before your new apartment becomes available, you may need temporary storage or an alternative moving arrangement.
Understanding the gap ahead of time can prevent last-minute complications.
Final Thoughts
A little local preparation can make relocating to Boston much easier.
I'm sharing this from the perspective of Premium Q Moving & Storage, a moving and storage company serving Greater Boston.
For those who have moved within Boston, what was the most unexpected challenge you encountered?

Trying to get a few runs in before the weather turns. I checked Catch Corner and saw some indoor basketball courts listed around the city and Cambridge with open times this weekend, but I have no idea which ones are actually worth it or how the groups usually form.
Has anyone used those for pickup games, or is it better to just show up at the usual public spots? Also, what time do the decent runs usually start on Saturday mornings? Looking for something not too serious, just people who want to play.

The City of Boston announced last week it released the results of the second survey on the Jackson Mann Community Center in Allston.
The city is hosting a meeting to go over the data on Oct. 27, the details of which can be found on the city’s website for the community center at https://gvimes.link/jackmannproj
The data from the release shows much the same main question as the first survey results, discussed in August – https://gvimes.link/jcksnmnncvrgaug
The biggest question is whether or not to leave space for a school. The Jackson Mann Community Center is falling apart right now as you read, but the Jackson Mann K-8 and Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing were so bad that they closed down several years ago.

The Sophia Snow Place senior living community in Roslindale held a celebration and grand opening of the Bud and Betty Hanson Restorative Garden last Wednesday to a crowd of about 100 residents, family members, staff and well-wishers.
The parcel sits just south of Sophia Snow. Historically, it was a gas station, and then it was put up for possible residential development some years ago before Sophia Snow purchased the site with nonprofit partners. The senior living facility then went through the arduous process of finding funding through the city’s Community Preservation Act (CPA) fund – it matches state funds and a property tax surcharge (that’s a percentage of your tax bill, not your assessment) to fund historic preservation, open space and recreation, or affordable housing – and has finally come to fruition.
The former gas station site needed a lot of work, but the vernal pool behind remains virtually untouched. Sophia Snow Executive Director Marilu Swett said remediating the gas station site took a lot of time, testing and work, but it was worth it to get the site to where it is now.

I am going to Boston the week of Halloween, and my itinerary only includes visiting Salem, going to Harvard, and maybe traveling to New York; what are some inexpensive things to do and hole in the wall places to eat that are not all over Instagram and TikTok.

I go to lots of events, but many of them are at Aeronaut, Trident Bookstore, Somerville Theater, Crystal Ballroom, The Rockwell, City Winery and other venues that primarily advertise through their own websites.
A few months ago I made this website that aggregates events from all of those places and more into a single spot so you can easily go out and find something fun to do:
https://www.wickedbostonevents.com/
Let me know what you think, I'm not making any money off of this and there are no ads on it, it just felt useful to share :)
Also - I posted this in a different forum and got ideas for features including the map and I'm going to work on a way to submit new events and locations to add, if you feel like anything is missing or could be better leave a comment - thanks!

Hey everyone!
I’m making the trip all the way from France and landing in Boston this Saturday for the Jets game! I actually came once before back in 2018, but I drove down then, so this time I'm doing things a bit differently and taking the train from South Station.
I’ve got a couple of quick questions and would love any pro tips from those who know the routine:
Post-Game Train Logistics: I’ve heard the Patriot Train back to South Station leaves pretty quickly after the final whistle. How tight is that turnaround? Do I need to bolt out right as the game ends, or is there a comfortable window to catch it without running a marathon?
I assume I don’t have enough time to buy stuff at Proshop at the end of game. I got my clear policy bag, but too small if I want to buy more than 1 clothe…
Stores in Boston: Are there any good sports apparel shops right in Boston (or nearby accessible via the T) that carry a great selection of Patriots gear, just in case I want to grab a few things before heading to Foxborough?
Any advice or tips for a European fan would be massively appreciated. Go Pats! 🏈
