BL4 Spoiler Policy

In this sub we're generally lax about spoilers when it comes to older games. But it's different when a new game comes out. And maybe you haven't heard, but there have been some rumours that Borderlands 4 might come out soon-ish.

Some of us Vault Hunters are going to get the game on release and will want to talk about it. And that's cool. But remember that some of us will not be able to abandon work and lock the family in the attic to power through the entire game over the weekend. Others will want to wait for the price to decrease, for enough patches to be released, or for Grandma to gift it to them at Christmas after having listened attentively to all her stories. So don't spoil the game for them!

Our spoiler rules are simple enough to be understood by any psycho, and are in application as long as this post remains pinned.

  1. Spoilers include any reference to story elements in Borderlands 4. Older games are not concerned. Discussions about game mechanics, character skills, gear, etc are not concerned either (as long as the discussion or linked content doesn't touch any story elements, say "that gun drops from evil Moxxi").
  2. Post title. Do not put spoilers in post titles. Anybody looking at the front page of r/Borderlands must remain 100% unspoiled.
  3. Post body. If the body of your post contains a spoiler, you must tag the post as spoiler. When you create the post, it can be tagged as NSFW and/or spoiler, and the content will be blurred until the reader clicks on it. Importantly: tagging is not the same as giving a flair (like [BL2] or [Steam] or [Spoiler]). Whenever possible, add information about the content being spoiled in the title or flair (e.g. [Spoiler for Chapters 3&4] or [Spoiler for the Amara DLC]).
  4. Comments. In any comment in any thread, shroud all spoilers using spoiler markup. Spoiler markup >!looks like this!< when you write it, and looks like this when you read it. Again, add a note in clear text to give people an idea of the content being spoiled. One exception: within a spoiler-tagged thread, comments on the precise topic of the spoiler are exempt from that requirement. When in doubt, talk to Lilith use the spoiler markup.
  5. Links. If you post a link to an external site, youtube video, etc, give people following the link a chance to know what they're getting. If that content contains anything that may be seen as a spoiler, add a clear warning next to the link.

If you cannot follow these instructions, do not post spoilers at all. If you think that you may have made a mistake in following these instructions, immediately review what you have posted and make corrections. If you are on mobile and find proofreading inconvenient, do it anyway.

Any post or comment that breaks those rules will be removed. All around the stactus plant, serious or repeated offenses will result in a ban, at the mod's discretion. POP! goes the bandit.

All that being said, even with all these precautions and the dedication of your most favorite mod team, some things will slip through the cracks. So if you don't want to be spoiled, the only true solution may be to stay away from this sub (and reddit, and the internet, and the world).

Good luck Killer & see you on Kairos!

Review Bombing - Take Two Terms of Service / EULA

If you've played any of the Borderlands games recently, you will have noticed that you were asked to agree to new Terms of Service before starting the game. This happened because the Borderlands games have changed publisher and are now under Take Two.

This has led to some controversies and review bombing. We have always been keen on letting people express themselves freely on this sub, whatever their opinion (as long as it stays civil). However, on this particular matter, given the large number of recent threads on that subject, their repetitiveness, and the fact that they often create conflicts (we've likely issued more Rule 1 bans in the last 2 weeks than in the last 6 months). We've chosen to lock the previous threads on that subject and we will remove new ones. We'll leave this one open for a few days (as long as it stays civil).

If you want to read more, start with the official response from Gearbox on the matter. You can also use the search bar above to locate the multiple recent threads on the topic in this sub. Be aware that there may be some level of misinformation/fearmongering. If you want to discuss the subject further, we suggest you do it in a different space that is more relevant to the matter, since in the end, this is a Take Two thing, not a Borderlands thing. If you're very worried but don't want to contact a lawyer about it, or if you want to take a stance against evil corporations, just don't play the games. But in that case you should probably not play most games (nor use most apps, devices, websites, etc). Chances are you've already agreed multiple times to ToS similar or worse than the new ones for Borderlands.

As the mod team of r/borderlands, we are not lawyers so we do not have a definitive opinion on the matter. Like most people, we don't have much love for the ToS/EULAs of many software companies and the loss of privacy that goes along with any use of the internet. But on the other hand, we haven't seen anything particularly concerning in those ToS (in comparison with what other companies put in theirs). That's just the general feeling among the mod team, not an official stance of the subreddit.

A few things to note:

  • Whatever you agree to in ToS/EULA still does not allow the publishers to do anything illegal (depending on your country of jurisdiction).
  • Typically ToS/EULA are made as general as possible to cover all possible edge cases. If it says "we may (...)", that doesn't necessarily mean that they are doing it, or have any intent on doing it to you. For example, the ToS say they may collect your government ID number. In some countries like China this is mandatory (to regulate play time). So they have to do it, and they have to put it in the ToS. This doesn't mean that they intend to collect such data in other countries, and anyway they have no way to do so unless you provide it yourself.
  • The new ToS appear to be general for Take Two, and as such include things that are not specifically aimed (or likely to be used) in the Borderlands games. For example, there is some note that the use of mods may get you banned. This makes sense to fight cheating in the context of competitive multiplayer games and/or if part of a game's revenue is driven by micro-transactions or subscriptions. If you find and use a "mod" to unlock paying content in BL4 for free, you might get in trouble (deservedly). But there is no reason to believe that anything more would be enforced for the Borderlands games (e.g. against the use of mods like the community patch, etc). Gearbox has always been (unofficially) supportive of the modding scene. And the main Borderlands modding community has been cooperative with Gearbox on such matters.
  • There has been some talk about the games having been converted to spyware. Before spreading any misinformation, you can check for yourself the latest patches on Steam DB. For example, Borderlands 2 received its last update in August 2022, and BL3 received its last update in August 2024. Long before the new ToS were published. The Borderlands games since BL2 also have hotfix capabilities, but this only allows to change parameters (like the damage of a weapon), not the code logic, certainly not turn anything into spyware.

[BL2] Really wish we got to kill Captain Scarlett

Dunno about you guys but I found her to be rather irritating and since we haven't seen her sincs, her getting away amounts to basically nothing.

That and she's a child killer and I hate child killers.

[BL2] 3rd times a charm?

I might get some FL4K (lol) for this, but after playing BL4 again on a second character, I’d love an updated version of BL2 on current gen. Yes I know we got the handsome collection back in the day with updated graphics and such, but I’d like them to push it further.

Borderlands 2 seems to be deemed the goat of the franchise, it was such a level up from the first one and really set the bar high, and even replaying it now feels good. In September, it’ll be 15 years old (🧓🏽) and if I’m being honest, mechanics-wise, it feels 15 years old!

I would love a remake now, I’d love for the game to have all of BL4’s mechanics, meaning the Hoverpack for dashing and boosting around, the grappling hook, and mantling and sliding, basically all the newest mechanics. I’d argue that the instant vehicle digistructing could even have its place (I know this may interfere with traversal because it’s not open world). I don’t think any of these mechanics mess up anything lore-wise but I’d love to hear what the community thinks.

With this remake, I think they could also bring skill trees and vault hunters up to modern standards as well, not that the skill trees were lacking, but I think we could get a bit more out of the skill trees with a bit of TLC. Skill augments are awesome and I think characters of BL2 could be expanded beyond what we know.

The story is immaculate and shouldn’t be changed whatsoever, BUT, some extras would be nice, couple of new missions to add some more lore connecting the games a bit more would be nice. The pre sequel was my favorite and I’d love that to be included somehow but i don’t think it’s possible because of the timeline and story but maybe someone else could find a way to tie some things into the remake.

The attachment system in BL4 would do a lot for the weapons in BL2 as well, give me DPUH with a COV mag, give me a conference call with a maliwan toggle. It just expands things so much and gives more to find and grind for the best fit in your build, and SLAG!!!! I miss slag, I might be the only one lol but I do enjoy slag, I understand radiation kinda took that spot but I think they could coexist with a bit of tweaking to both.

Adding moxxi’s encore machines would be huge as well being that we basically do the same just with a workaround of quitting and reloading. The weekly Marcus vending machines, the big encore, and wildcard missions would be awesome too.

I’m sure people would argue for a new title at this point, given this would take a lot of effort, time, and resources, but BL2 has everything there already to work with story and map wise. I would love to hear what everyone thinks, and sorry in advance if this kind of post happens all the time! Let me know what you guys think and please drop some more ideas!

TLDR; BL2 remake with BL4 bones

Edit: I have not played or heard much of the huge mod that people have been playing for bl2

XBOX 360 Need Help Defeating Crawmerax the Invincible - Xbox 360

Hi, i've been recently doing Achivement hunting in Borderlands 1, which i'm basically done with, but there's an Achivement for defeating crawmerax the Invincible which i can't obtain because i can't defeat him due to the game’s forced lvl scaling in this boss. I have a 63 lvl character in playthrough 1, but my gear is not really that strong...so i need the help of someone who has a very high lvl character that can help me, if possible, to defeat the boss in order for me to obtain the Achivement 😁👍

[BL2] Game crashing once entering Southern Shelf Bay

I'm playing on TVHM as Krieg, and when I entered the Southern Shelf Bay to kill Midgemong, it just shows the loading screen before crashing. Everytime I try to continue on this character, it shows the Southern Shelf Bay loading screen then crash for Krieg. I got some really good weapons on this character, so I would like help with this? Might this be a driver issue, because I'm playing on an intel graphics driver.

When I tried to play using Maya and use her action skill, it would crash. I have no idea why. Is it my graphics card? I uninstall and reinstalled the game. Not sure what else to do.

[BL1] Whats the best stuff to pull from Tartarus Station red chest room?

100%-ing BL1 on PS3 right now. Was wondering if it pays out to "farm" the red chest room, are there any good drops?

Playing as Lilith, maybe there's a good class mod to pull, a good SMG?

[BL3] FL4K might be one of the best video game characters I’ve ever played. Spoiler

Decided to buy BL3 and its DLC’s because I got bored of all the games I currently have, and I confidently say that this shit is absolutely peak so far.
(I’ve only put in 10 hours so far, just finished the Meridian Metroplex mission.)

But the moment I saw FL4K as a playable character, I just knew I was gonna love this game.
A very niche kind of character I love is giant, badass protagonists that also have a “soft side” to them.
I love the Doom Slayer for that exact reason, although his love for animals is more of an empathetic one, they still love animals nonetheless.

I also love how giant he is.
A very cool detail that I don’t see in a lot of games is characters noticeably taller than others actually stay accurate in-game.
He’s a lot bigger compared to all the other Hunters and most NPC’s. I just find that to be a cool detail they added in. It makes me feel like I’m actually playing a character that’s a little over 7ft tall.

His story is also pretty interesting, even though we don’t know a ton about it.
He was just a normal, non-violent indexing robot that just suddenly gained self-awareness and immediately told his boss that he wanted to murder before leaving and eventually
His reason for murdering is kinda weird, but I fw it. He started “The Hunt” to appease a woman he calls “Mistress Death”.

He’s just such a cool character, even his outfits are dope as hell.
I love the mystery surrounding him, just a giant robot who gained self-awareness,
started killing for “Mistress Death” who is FL4K’s personification of Death itself,
and since he struggles to understand humans and their social constructs, he instead turns to animals because they are more predictable and their behavior is more predictable.
(He also praises his pets, which is absolutely adorable).

I also find his nonchalant behaviors and tone to be both interesting and sometimes comedic.
So far, 2 of my favorite lines from him are:
“So I’m floating now. How novel.”
(From Claptrap breaking the glass on Sanctuary.)

“There are many crimes about to be committed. By me.”
(Talking to the intercom robot at the Lectra City PD).

[BL mod idea] Melee weapon concepts (previously posted in Joltzdude's YT community)

Anshin - Katanas. Fast swing speed with some life steal.

Maliwan - Elemental batons. High elemental effect chance and damage.

Jakobs - Whips. Longer range and can crit soft spots without natural crits.

Torgue - Rocket-powered sledgehammers. Heavy-hitting and can be charged for more power.

Vladof - Chainswords. No need to swing: just hold the trigger for constant damage.

Tediore spears - Spears. Thrown instead of held. Infinite supply!

If you want to turn this into a mod, please credit me and no generative A.I. for the models!

[BL1] yoOOOOOOOo my introduction to hybrid farming was golden

Man I honestly think there will be some who don't believe me on this because I can barely believe it myself, but after 100%ing the game with all 4 characters I was like "what's next?" and I'm aware of NemVader farming being one of the main things to do in BL1, but I'm also aware that I'm not willing to put in literally hundreds of hours to farm for one item in a video game, so I thought I'd do something more manageable.

I shit you not, after THIRTEEN runs of farming Bone Head, my man goes ahead and not only drops a Bone Shredder Saviour, but actually drops one with strictly better firerate AND damage than every single other Bone Shredder I'd collected in the farm up until that point.

I'm guessing this is ridiculously lucky because I know hybrid farming is normally extremely time-consuming, but my introduction to hybrid farming could not have been any better because I got an actually GOOD hybrid in literally 25 minutes.

I've moved on to trying to get a Reaver's Edge Penetrator now and since I'm playing as Roland my farms are actually extremely quick because his turret super-jump allows you to save TONS of time farming as you can normally skip a significant chunk of the route after a save-quit, my Bone Head farm took about a minute from spawning in to killing him, this Reaver farm takes about 90 seconds because you can super-jump straight up to the chest on the wooden platform from the ground where the Spiderants spawn.

Edit: arguably the best part of all this is that I'm using the Bone Shredder Saviour to farm Reaver for his own hybrid, so I'm actually getting a lot of use out of my first hybrid already!

Tl;dr: I got insanely lucky and farmed my first ever hybrid in under half an hour and it spawned with what I consider to be extremely good parts! :D

[Question] Why do people say that BL4 is bad?

I was looking through steam reviews for the game today and honestly, I do not get half of these complaints. I get the complaints of endgame is lacking a bit but I don’t get the rest. Most of the cons I have seen are:

- Story is bad ( I don’t think this at all, I think it’s very much the opposite actually, probably the 2nd or 3rd best story in the franchise)

- Open World (each to their own but I didn’t actually mind it as much as I thought)

- TVHM not here (Which is such a bad argument because it was in 3 but no one used it because you didn’t need it)

So what is the deal? Apart from gearboxes lack of care and communication, why is there so much hate?

EDIT: Please don’t bite my head off in the comments, I personally enjoy it but I am just doing this to be curious! The other sub had some hostility haha!

Loving the resurrection of the PS4 Borderlands Goty

As the title implies, I love how many lobbies I can find in the game! A few months back it was literally 1-2 lobbies if you're lucky. Now I'm finding 10-12 lobbies throughout most of the day.

Loved to see the Classic getting some love!

[Question] How does the free upgrade work for bl3?

Hello everyone. Hope you're well.

I've not played any of the borderlands games and im slowly putting my collection together. I definitely want the steelbook as I think it looks very nice. This means I'll end up with a ps4 copy of the game. This is not a problem as I can upgrade it to the ps5 version. My question is that which version will I get upgraded to. If I have the ps4 base version will I then get upgraded to the ps5 base version? What happens if I get something like the super deluxe version on the ps4. Which version will i get upgraded to on the ps5.

Ideally if there was a complete edition on the ps4 I'd get that which would have probably upgraded me to the ultimate edition on the ps5.

What I planned to do was to get the steelbook on its own without the disc and then get the ultimate edition on the ps5 but then the dlc comes on a voucher code instead of on the disc but based on some unboxing videos that I saw, those codes are expiring this year and im not sure I'll be able to get the game before then.

Sorry if my question is a bit all over the place and many thanks.

[BL2] Borderlands 2 port to newer games?

Main question: Can Borderlands 2 be ported to newer systems such as BL3 or BL4?

Context: There is an ongoing trend of game decomplication all thanks to AI tools doing the heavy lifting, allowing game modders, creators, and everyone in between to mix and match assets and mechanics from different games.

So the question is: Can BL2's storyline be ported/modded to BL3 or BL4's game system, and vice versa? Is anyone willing to even do it?

Things to ponder, things to consider. I was getting tired of the old, clunky controls of BL2, but at the same time I miss the variety that BL3 made to the game's "modern shooter" mechanics. I do not have the mental strength to endure another gameplay and yapping in BL3, thus leading me to ask this question in this subreddit.

[BL-Movie] What Do You Think Would’ve Happened If David Daniel Creston Or Jake Schreier Directed The Borderlands Movie Instead Of Eli Roth?

Cause after seeing Thunderbolts and Spiderman Brand New Day (and also Shang Chi), I’m wondering what would’ve happened. The best I can imagine is the fight scene where Tina, Roland, Lilith, Claptrap, Krieg and Roland are escaping the psychos but with better cinematography and way more R rated. Zer0 under David would go hard too given the action scenes from Spiderman and Shang Chi.

Another thing is I can imagine the movie being similar to Tales From The Borderlands.
