Mod Post Quick Update: No More NSFW Photos

Hey everyone,

Just a quick heads-up as we tighten things up a bit. Starting now, we’re no longer allowing explicit images in the sub. That means no nudes, no porn, and no posts focused on sexual acts or body parts, even if they’re tagged NSFW. Shirtless photos (including gym pics) must be tagged NSFW, even if not sexual in nature, just to keep things clean and consistent.

This isn’t about shaming anyone or killing the vibe. We’re just trying to keep r/BlackLGBT a space that feels safe, accessible, and welcoming for more people, including folks who are here for community, support, and identity-centered conversation. You can still talk about sex, gender, and intimacy — we’re not censoring the real stuff. We’re just asking everyone to keep the visuals respectful.

If you’re ever unsure whether something’s okay to post, feel free to message us and ask. We’d rather have a convo than have to remove a post later.

Thanks for understanding and helping us take care of the space 🖤🏳️‍🌈

Trying to boost my confidence just a little even if you say something mean though I'mma still take it as a compliment it's taking me years to get to this. Happy with how I look happy with my personality and proud of the healing that I've done.

Best cities for black gay men

Hello. I wanted to know what are your top picks for cities with best dating pool for black gay people, specifically men. I am from Detroit. Detroit is probably the most homophobic city in America. There are really no black gay spaces here. Every gay dude is DL so you would never know that they are gay. The only way to get your rocks off is to go on one of those cesspool apps like grindr or jackd, and I am completely over it. Where can you meet quality black gay dudes? Whenever I'm on twitter, all the fine black dudes are either from Atlanta or Dallas. Now everybody knows about Atlanta, but Dallas was kind of a shocker to me. Is Dallas a good place to meet quality black gay dudes, and not the trash on these dating apps?

What apps are you guys using for dating and relationships?

I’m interested in meeting someone, going on dates and hopefully finding a boyfriend. Jack’d and Grindr are mainly hookup apps, so I’m curious about what other apps people are using to find men who want to date and get to know each other.

Have you had any luck with Hinge, Tinder or something else? I’d love to hear which apps have actually led to dates or relationships for you.

PS: I am located in Cambridge, England and my preference is to date other black men.

Dating How do you cope with feeling hidden when your partner’s family and friends don’t accept your relationship?

I’m feeling a little lost and could use advice, especially from other queer people who have navigated something similar.

I’ve been with my girlfriend, who is first-generation Mexican American, for two years. We’ve lived together for a year, have two dogs, and are talking about getting engaged and having kids or fostering soon.

Her parents have repeatedly said our relationship is a sin, that they don’t accept it, and that they wouldn’t attend our wedding. They’ve told her not to post us on social media or tell people we’re together. When she has posted us, they’ve called asking what people will think. They introduce me as her friend and tell people she lives alone.

Last week, she told them we plan to get engaged, and suddenly they said they would do anything to be at the wedding. I want to leave room for things to improve, but I’m struggling to reconcile that with how they’ve treated our relationship right up until that conversation.

There’s also a separate situation with her goddaughter’s parents. They’ve asked us not to tell the kids we’re together or show affection that would suggest we’re a couple. We’re normally affectionate and call each other “baby,” so being around them means constantly monitoring myself.

When we visit her hometown, her goddaughter gets to spend time with us whenever she wants, including at otherwise adult gatherings. That means the expectation to hide our relationship follows us into those spaces, too.

My girlfriend has pushed back against her parents, and I know that has been incredibly hard for her. But she’s afraid that if she pushes back against her goddaughter’s parents, they’ll cut her off from her goddaughter. I understand why that scares her. I also feel caught in the middle, expected to accept being “the friend” to preserve those relationships.

She tells me I’m not hidden and that I can act however I want. But she hasn’t explicitly told the kids we’re together or addressed their parents’ expectations, so I don’t feel like I can just comfortably be myself. I don’t want to be responsible for outing her to them or triggering the fallout she’s afraid of.

Even little things feel loaded now. We want to bring our dogs to her hometown, and I want to be acknowledged as their other owner and her partner. As we talk about marriage and children, I keep wondering what this would look like for our family. I don’t want our future kids to experience their parents’ relationship as something people conceal.

I love her, and I recognize the difficult steps she’s already taken. I’m also hurt and don’t know how to cope with being asked, directly or indirectly, to make our relationship less visible.

For anyone who has been through this: how did you navigate it? What boundaries helped, especially when your partner feared losing access to a child they love? How do I support her without continuing to put myself in situations where I feel erased?

Discussion Do you feel okay being referred to other people as the gay friend or do you feel like an accessory? I personally would just want people to get to know first and foremost and whether they clock my tea or not, my sexuality shouldn't really matter?

Discussion What are my options as a black man?

I'm 30, male, black, autistic, and still a virgin. I've given and recieved head before, but nothing past that. I live in Polk County Florida and I've had no luck with the apps like Grindr and sniffies. I look on r4rs around my location and can't find anyone either. I get messages from people that either can't host, or just want oral. I want to lose my virginity, ideally without paying for it. I'm bi, but I've given up on finding woman traditionally and plan on using a matchmaking service later to find a relationship. I can also fly to Nevada and visit a brothel, but that's pricey and all the way across the country. But I know there are men in the state that would be interested or desperate enough to let me top them. Where can I go to look? As we know, there is alot of racism in the gay community so I have extra barriers as a black man. How do I overcome that issue as well?
