General Question Newcomer with some big home-immersion dreams (Too big?) — looking for some guidance on an S19XP/S19j Pro setup!
Hey guys,
Total newcomer to the custom firmware and immersion side of things, but I’m a heavy-duty DIY'er who fabricates most of my own gear and handles my own electrical wiring. I've got some big dreams and I'm diving headfirst into a home immersion build.
Right now, I'm piecing together a setup running an S19XP andan S19j Pro submerged in an immersion bath, and I want to tap into the collective brain truston a few design choices:
- Firmware: Since these are running submerged, what's the consensus on sourcing and running custom immersion firmware (like Braiins or VNish) to safely handle the thermal and voltage profiles?
- The Power Layout: I’ve got three APW12 PSUs on hand. My initial thought is splitting 4 S19XP hashboards across two of them, but I have no issue fabricating custom wiring harnesses or modifying things cleanly to handle the load. Any specific gotchas with pinouts or power balancing here?
- The "While I'm Fabricating" Syndrome: Upon cleaning the S19XP, I noticed a 4th plugin for what I assumed to be another hashboard. Upon researching, I saw that the S19XP Hydro uses 4 boards and that I essentially have the same control board. Naturally, the tinkerer voice in my head is asking: “If we're already building custom brackets, wiring, and a loop, why not squeeze 2 to 3 more hashboards into the mix?” Is it feasible to scale up the hashboard count on a standard control board/PSU arrangement with custom firmware, or am I walking into a nightmare with power domains and kernel panics?
Appreciate any advice, warnings, or pointers. Also, if anyone has some custom immersion setups or builds of their own, I'd love to see them!
Glad to be here and ready to build!
