Okay guys, here's my attempt at 1x10

Context: I have a very cheap aluminum bike, originally the cheapest on the market, with a 3x7 freewheel system. Since I wanted to upgrade the components, I had the brilliant idea of adding a single chainring with an 11-42 10-speed cassette and a 34t BCD chainring. The result? Disaster... the chain is completely crossed at impossible angles. What would you do in this situation? Should I go back to a triple chainring system, keeping either a 3x9 or 3x8 setup? Or should I try a shorter bottom bracket and see if it improves?

Which components should I be looking at for Surly Preamble?

I'm basically trying to make a Preamble something it's not. Found a Preamble frame (XS) and want to put my money in building it up with nice things. Will eventually upgrade to another frame (possibly MS).

Confirming if this stuff is compatible/suggestions?

Fork: State Carbon fork, regular or monster? Something else?

Wheels: something beefy. Zipp 303? Open to carbon.

Tires: 650b. Really like the Gravelking Panaracer sk pink but can't find them for the tire size.

Drivetrain: Looking for a X1 system. Had experience on SRAM AXS wireless. Is there a system that is as easy as right goes up left goes down for shifting but is not battery operated?

Brakes: Looking at hydraulic

Steel gravel frame (Nordest Albarda) → road-oriented build: fork/bar/wheel plan, anything I’m missing?

Hi all,

I’m planning a gradual rebuild of my 2021 Nordest Albarda (steel, size M, 11.7 kg as it sits). Current build: SRAM Apex 1 mechanical (11-42), cable disc brakes, Mavic Allroad wheels, Goodyear Eagle F1. Its a Gravel bike but i want to build a hybrid road bike, more road focused.

I’m keeping the frame. A new bike would cost around €2k and my mechanic says a proper fit plus carbon parts would make a big difference instead of buying a new bike for way more money. Also i tried some 5k+ bikes (canyon, cube) and the difference is there, but not super noticible, only when i really go for a expansiv race focused bike i can feel a difference. But this is not worht 5k to me.

Planned upgrades, in order:

  1. Cockpit: PRO Vibe Aero Pursuit 38 cm to replace my 44 cm gravel bar. Want to increas my drop, i have right now 2cm drop i think i will go for 3-4cm.
  2. Fork: Moquai Gravel-Race carbon (50 mm offset, 34 mm+ tire clearance). My frame has a straight 44 mm head tube and the fork is tapered, so I’m planning a Cane Creek 40.EC44 lower cup.
  3. Wheels: Elitewheels Pro 2.0 carbon, 24 mm internal width, because i want to use goodyear eagle f1 tires.
  4. Shifting (not sure about shifting yet) Wheeltop EDS TX electronic shifting with hydraulic brakes, a Shimano 105 crank and a 12-speed cassette.

Questions:

  • Has anyone run the Moquai fork or Elitewheels long-term?
  • Would you change the order?

Thanks!

Building my everyday bike

Post image

Putting together a Marin Muirwoods, and these are some of the parts I’ve gathered so far.

I already have a gravel bike that I enjoy for longer rides and covering ground at a decent pace. It could handle these everyday rides too, but I liked the idea of putting together something with a different riding position and feel, and making it my own.

The plan is a comfortable bike for commutes, coffee runs and a bit of exploring, paved or unpaved whatever the day turns into. Something I can take further when the mood strikes, but just as happily hop on for a quick trip out.

Seeing it all come together has got me wondering what I’ll end up loving and what I might change once I’ve spent some time riding it.

If you built your everyday bike again, what would you do differently? Anything you wish you’d spent more on, kept simple or skipped altogether?

Found this old bike for a future project

Heyo, I found this old Giant bike in the road it was abandoned and I wanted to recovery it. Where should I start to rebuild, to find the pieces and to assemble them? (I was thinking to ask one of my friends to help to assemble with all the components, because I don't have the right instruments)

Where do you usually buy your parts?

Looking forward for your suggestion and support.

I hope that I found it the right size.

Apex 1 11-42 -> 11-46?

Hi!

I have a question: I enjoy riding routes with a lot of elevation gain, but I tend to run out of gears on the steeper climbs. I was wondering if I could simply install an 11–46 cassette on my Apex 1 drivetrain, or if it wouldn’t work properly.

I know it’s only officially rated for up to 11–42, but would using an 11–46 cassette cause any major issues?

Thanks!
