Hi everyone!
It's been about 2 years since I took over the sub, and it's been great! Y'all are a great community, and it's safe to that we absolutely love our dogs. They're so sweet, full of love and sass and covered in floof made of sugar. They love their people, they love their food, and their stomachs love to annoy their people, along with their silly teeth problems and heartbreaking heart murmurs - it's just a wonderful symbiotic relationship of love and fluff with these adorable monsters.
I originally set up the recurring question ("Planning on getting a BF? Have an easy question of breed owners? Here you go!") and have been wanting to change it for quite some time now. So, I'm putting the question to you wonderful people: What do you want to see discussed as a community in a recurring post? We can do weekly, monthly, etc., so we can even make "Days" within the sub, if you'd like. Let's get creative! I'll put the ones I've been thinking of in individual comments below so we can have separate discussions on each one. (I will not make my decisions solely on up/downvotes but I might take them into consideration. My decisions will be based off discussion primarily. So please discuss.)
Also, while we're at it, let's talk rules: I have a policy here and in my other animal-based subs that solicitation (indirect or direct/subtle) is not allowed, only on an exception basis. We've also been removing all blatantly-AI posts. What are your thoughts on this?
Basically - here's your chance to share your thoughts. All content is allowed in this post, abuse is not of course. I'll leave this up for the rest of the month and take actions accordingly.
And I'd like to publicly thank my co-mods u/bigchunce and /u/joyisnowhere for their help since the beginning. I've really enjoyed modding with you these past 2 years.

Below is the perfect place for discussion on getting this breed, or anything generally related to Bichon Frises. A new post will go up the first of every month.

My pup and I live in east tn rn and the weather is starting to drop below the recommended temp.
I’ve tried to get boots in the past but they didn’t fit and then we lost one.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to make his pause safe for walking or walking alternatives.
Also, this is a different topic but my pup got a bunch of teeth removed recently and he’s having a hard time eating his kibble. We have Iams brand.
We cannot afford to buy wet or freeze dried foods for his primary meal.
I’m open to making food for him but again, we’re on a tight budget.

Any tips are appreciated! My pup turned 11 recently. I love him dearly and I lost my first bichon at 2 years old due to cancer, so losing my dog early always scares me. My boy is very active and loves running, but we have 3 floors in our home, and I’ve noticed his struggles going up the stairs since he’s tripped a couple of times. He also has issues jumping out of the shower tub now. I noticed him getting cataracts in his eyes, so I give him daily vitamins which helps. How can I keep him healthy? He slips a bit too sometimes.

2 days ago our beloved colin passed away during emergency surgery. It was all so sudden, he was a little bit under the weather on Monday but no worse than when he is a little ill. Bounced back on Tuesday but Wednesday he took a quick turn for the worse. The vet said a growth on his spleen had burst there is no warning signs for it until it bursts.
I'm just in shock and I loved that little lad so much, he was only 7 and it seems so cruel that he be taken so young. The hardest part is that everyone loved him, so telling others was heartbreaking.
The house feels empty, his toys, bed and bowl I can't bring myself to pick up. However I feel lucky to have had the best dog anyone could ask for and just wished I had been able to have one last rumble (his trigger word for rougher play time).
Love you fluffy xx

Dunno if your pup does this but if I’m eating chips / popcorn / similar she never goes at the bowl I’m eating from — she just stares at it and if I drop something out of the bowl, she lunges at it! My little vacuum cleaner

Do any of your bichons do a strange thing where they’ll sniff the duvet intently almost like they are following a bug but then suddenly recoil like they’ve had an electric shock or they’ve found the bug - but there is never anything there? They’ll do it repeatedly and it is unnerving but funny too!

He’s a multichon, and I hope this is allowed.
He is a sweetheart, but he always has this face that reminds of the expression that your coach would give you if you missed the game winning free throw, or that your parents would convey you if you told them you’re dropping out of college to become a professional podcaster or TikTok influencer.

My dog had tummy issues so was on a rice and beef diet and I also added pumpkin (Kindfull from Target that I recommend) and the vet gave us probiotics to give him
I’m just curious if anyone gives their bichon some sort of yogurt for probiotics and if so, what kind
He’s back on his dry food and has been doing a lot better luckily. It was bad for a bit and we still don’t know what caused it

My first pet, a Bichon I've had since I was 11 years old passed away yesterday afternoon. We had her put to sleep after she grew too weak to stand and would no longer eat after 15 years of age and complications from a tumor on her spleen.
She was diagnosed with the tumor back in April of this year at a Banfield Pet Hospital. The veterinarian told me she had "weeks to months" to live. But the costs of the services for the diagnosis were quite high. They offered the "Optimum Wellness Plan." A monthly payment plan that would knock off a couple hundred dollars for that, and any future appointments to help my dog stay comfortable.
An assistant came and talked to me to explain the contract. It would last 12 months. I was in shock and distressed from the horrible diagnosis, I knew my little angel didn't have long left and that was all I could think.
I asked specifically "If my dog dies before the 12 months, what then? The vet said she has weeks or months to live."
The assistant told me "You can cancel any time. And we won't keep charging you if she passes."
This was a lie. I called today to cancel, and I was told according to the contract I signed, I agreed to pay the remaining 6 months even after she died. I pulled out the fine print, and there it was.
During the shock of just finding out my dog was not going to live much longer, they took advantage of me because I didn't read the fine print. I TOLD that assistant that my dog likely would not live 12 months and they let me go through with it. And now I have to pay for the next 6 months for care my dead dog cannot receive. If I had known, I would NEVER have signed. NEVER, EVER!!!
It hasn't even been 24 hours, and it's like the vultures are circling to take even more from me.
If you ever are ever offered the Optimum Wellness Plan from Banfield, DO NOT SIGN! Especially if your dog was just diagnosed with a terminal condition. They will take advantage of your grief and get you to sign, even lying about what's truly in the fine print. They will act like it's just to help keep medication affordable until your dog passes. They will pretend it's out of compassion. It's not. It's to make you keep paying them after you lose your dog so they can lock in a customer and squeeze whatever still can from you.
The only consolation is that my baby didn't have to suffer long or understand just how evil and greedy people can be.

now we've had Yorkshire terriers my whole life. The first time we rescued a new breed. The lady was so kind so nice so I'm not holding anything against her. I think it's funny. She goes. , "oh yeah, these dogs are very low on the energy scale. He'll only have really big bursts for about a half hour a day." loll wrong wrong. lol but I love my puppy
