🎫 Travel Info 🧳 Guide recommendations for Caracol?

Hello,

We are visiting Belize in December and plan to spend a few days in the San Ignacio area. I am looking for recommendations for a truly knowledgeable guide for a visit to Caracol.

We will have a rental car, so we are not interested in a tour that includes transportation. Ideally, we would like to drive ourselves to the site, hire a guide there (or arrange one in advance), and then continue exploring and photographing the ruins on our own after the guided portion is complete.

Is it possible to hire guides directly at the entrance to Caracol, similar to what is commonly done at archaeological sites in Guatemala or Mexico?

I would especially appreciate recommendations based on personal experience. In the past, we have sometimes hired guides through hotels or joined group tours, but we have found that guide quality can vary quite a bit, and many were not particularly knowledgeable. We have learned that the quality of the guide can make a huge difference in how much you get out of visiting a place like Caracol.

If you have worked with a guide who had a strong knowledge of Maya history, archaeology, and the site itself, I would love to hear your recommendations.

Thank you!

πŸ›¬ Transportation πŸš— Anyone with experience getting a vehicle from Belize to the US?

The truck was originally from the US, so duty has been paid somewhere. I'm trying to dig that info up. I'm looking at roll on roll off solutions and I've considered driving it back as well. I'm not sure the best option. Has anyone here done something like this before? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 What's the weather like? Traveling end of October

As the subject says, traveling end of this month to Belize and was curious about the weather. I see its been very rainy so i'm wondering if I should still pack a lot of beachy clothes (flowy dresses, sandals, etc) or dress more for rain all day (layers, jacket, sneakers/rain boots)? Or a bit of both perhaps.

Of course no one can predict the weather but i'm wondering if it rains all day or are there still moments where you can hit the beach?

Either way, rain or shine, i'm super excited!

πŸ›¬ Transportation πŸš— Another solo female traveller question - transportation

I've been to Belize before with others. I'm going back solo. I fly into BZE around 6PM and staying in Cayo. Because it's likely to be getting dark I probably shouldn't rent a car, right?

Is it safe to take a taxi that far, alone at night? Any tips on how to stay safe and make sure I don't get driven off course or something crazy? (Mexico taxis made me feel super unsafe as a solo female). Belize never made me feel unsafe but I try to take precautions everywhere.

Thanks all!

πŸŒ€ TROPICAL WEATHER πŸŒ€ Belize in September? What’s the weather like?

We are considering Belize next September. Placencia is where we like to visit. We usually visit in the spring and love the weather. For various reasons we can’t go in the spring next year. My wife googled the weather. It told her it was the rainy season and not a good time to visit.

So what’s it really like in September?

πŸ›¬ Transportation πŸš— Is it safe to walk from this restaurant to the bus station in Belize City?

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I will be visiting Belize, and we're planning to take the bus from Belize City to San Ignacio. We're considering having a cab drop us off to have lunch at this restaurant before heading to the bus station, but Google Maps shows a walk of around 15 minutes between the two locations (see screenshot).

Our main question is: Would it be safe to walk this route, especially with our luggage? (1 backpack and 1 small suitcase) Is this an area where you'd feel comfortable walking during the day, or would you recommend taking a taxi instead?

We also have a couple of other questions:

  • Bus tickets and timing: We're hoping to catch the 1:00 PM bus to San Ignacio. According to the schedule we found, the previous bus leaves at 9:30 AM, so we're wondering whether the 1:00 PM bus tends to get crowded or fill up. How early would you recommend arriving at the station to buy tickets and make sure we get a seat? We would ideally like to avoid having to wait for the next bus at 1:30 PM.
  • Bus fare: We understood that the fare was around BZ$6 per person. Is that still the current price?
  • The restaurant: Has anyone been to this restaurant? Would you recommend it, or is there somewhere else nearby you'd suggest?

Any advice from locals or people who have made this trip recently would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello! I’ve always wanted to look for a place to live in Belize but I still don’t know! Unfortunately, the proud Guatemalans say nothing about this country, but I would love to get to know it more and for someone to help me get to know this beautiful independent country that I know has a lot to give!

πŸ€” Unique Question πŸ€” What is Belize's Biggest Football Accomplishment?

I know it is a bit of an odd question, but I am making a video about every American country's biggest accomplishment in association football (soccer) but I have struggled to find any sources in regards to Belizean football.

Has Belize ever had an outstanding performance in any tournament? (men's, women's, youth championships, everything counts) It doesn't have to be at any FIFA World Cup (I'm certain Belize has never qualified), but perhaps a Gold Cup or Pan American Games participation that left a mark.

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 Female Solo Traveler- where to stay?

Post image
46 Upvotes

Hi! I want to take a solo trip to Belize for my 30th birthday in a few weeksβ€”I’m thinking on staying 5 nights Sat-Thurs! I want to have a well-rounded experience of beach lounging, water + jungle adventure, cultural experiences, and easy accessibility/walkability.

I’m torn between Placencia and San Pedro. From my research, San Pedro is very touristy while Placencia is a bit slower paced. I’m leaning toward Placencia, I just don’t know if I’ll be able to access all the excursions I want to experience. I’d prefer not to book multiple accommodations. What would you do??? Thanks in advance!

🏝️ Relocation Info 🏝️ Expat buying a vehicle in Belize

Are there any expats reading this who know anything about purchasing a vehicle in Belize?

I'm traveling from Canada and will be in Belize for a while and plan to purchase a truck and ultimately drive it back home to Canada.

From what I've read though it sounds like most vehicles are pretty beat up, and very expensive. The plan is evolving and I'm now more likely to but a truck in Guatemala, but ideally I can make it happen in Belize.

Any tips?

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 Indian Citizen with US L1B Visa traveling to Belize in November – Clarification on Repatriation Fee & Border Taxes?

Hey everyone,

I am an Indian citizen currently living/working in the US on a valid, multiple-entry U.S. L1B visa. I am planning a tourist trip to Belize in November 2026 and have been doing a lot of research regarding entry requirements, but I am finding some conflicting information online.

I know that having a valid, multiple-entry US visa generally grants visa-free entry or a visa-on-arrival to Belize, but I have a few specific questions regarding fees especially because I might do a mix of flying and land border crossings via Guatemala.

If anyone with a similar passport/visa situation has made this trip recently, I would love your insight on these specific questions:

  1. Repatriation Fee: Some older travel blogs and Wikipedia pages mention an exorbitant "repatriation fee" of BZD 1,200 (~US$600) on arrival for certain nationalities, including India. Does this apply if I hold a valid U.S. L1B visa, or is it completely waived? Is there any repatriation fee when leaving by land to Guatemala or by air back to the USA?
  2. Arrival Fees: Are there any official entry fees or charges when arriving by flight from the USA, or when crossing the land border from Guatemala into Belize?
  3. Departure Tax via Air: What is the current departure tax when flying out of Belize (BZE) back to the USA? Is this usually bundled into the airline ticket price, or do I need to pay it in cash at the airport?
  4. Departure Tax via Land: What is the exact departure tax when exiting Belize via the land border into Guatemala? I read it’s around BZD 40 (US$20) can someone confirm if this must be paid strictly in cash?
  5. Land vs. Air Rules: Do any visa requirements or entry permissions change depending on whether I fly into Belize versus crossing over by land from Guatemala?

I want to make sure I have the correct amount of cash on hand and don't encounter any surprises at immigration. Any recent experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance!

πŸ›¬ Transportation πŸš— San Pedro to Belize City

I'm looking to book an excursion that requires a flight from San Pedro to Belize City on a Saturday. The company is advising not to book on a Saturday because flights can be difficult for that day. Has anyone had any issues with the short flight on Saturdays?
