❓ Ask Belgium Is it just me, or is everything going downhill?

Is everything going downhill? Are these the budget cuts? Corporate stinginess?

Or am I just getting older and disappointed?

Nothing works, and everything and everyone wastes your time, energy, and money.

When I go to the store, they don't have what I need.

So then I have to go to another store or order it online.

Instead of sending it to my house or the post office, they send it to some obscure shop or place on the other side of town,

which is almost never open. So I have to play postman myself.

Things you buy are sometimes already broken when they arrive or broken after a year.

If you received a message from the government or the doctor, it used to be via letter or email.

But now they have eBox, MyFin, FartBox, the Helena ap, and who knows what else,

as if I'm going to remember and check 100 sites every day. For about a year now, they’ve only been collecting the trash every 2 weeks, and you’re limited then,

because you only have one container. So I get to play trash man myself

and take garbage bags to the recycling center.

I haven't seen the locket (human ticket counter) open at the train station in the past few years.

What are you supposed to do if you have questions?

If you want to contact a company or something, they send you to to an AI who doesn't understand you.

I could go on like this, but I think you’re tired of the nagging by now.

EDIT: I know these are small problems, and I cant really complain. But its still annoying.
Like a death by thousand cuts. It often feels like that series "the good place" Like yes I'm not starving and have a roof above my head, but I keep needing to solve problems, and society just keeps me busy with endless nonsense.

EDIT2: Thanks for the award. I have no idea how awards work tho.

❓ Ask Belgium Is it legal In Flanders to limit the use of the washing machine to a tenant?

• Upvotes

TD.LR. In Flanders my landlord limits the usage to the washing machine to maximum once per week. Says nothing in the contract or my rules doc linked to the contract but it's a 'house rule'. Any way to defend using more times the washing machine, using the law as a back up? Just in case.

I'm actually the tenant. I'm paying for an overpriced room because it's the only thing I could find (after looking for months) It's not so bad here, but there are some rules and non-sense that just makes me raise an eyebrow. So I just try to fight them back; the landlord is actually happy with me, I'm a good tenant, I just try to be reasonable about the situation and, if I'm going to live here, to make it comfortable for me, not just for her wallet lol.

The thing is, there is this rule on the house about only ONE washing machine per week. I moved in when it was hotter outside, but now that is colder I start to think this is really NOT reasonable. I commute by bike, and I work in a factory. So in the weekend I can put a washing machine with ALL my clothes - work, bike (not clothes made for biking, just clothes that I use during commuting), clothes at home (pyjama) , clothes I've used during the weekend -.

I don't want to do 17 laundries, I want to be able to face unexpected dirty clothes (jackets, whatever). I understand the rule as a way of keeping other tenants off putting half-empty washing machines, or wasting energy or water.

I must say we MUST clean our provided bed sheets once every two weeks, so most of the time I use this washing machine to clean, also, whiter clothes or towels.

But still, I feel its not hygienic at all, the lack of place to just dry my bike clothes, makes them dump the whole week until I can put them in the washing machine during the weekend, so they keep humid until then, which is putting a lot more work into my already full washing machine. Which I'm not sure if it affects to the result, probably yes, or at least I'm wasting more product, or wearing away my clothes a lot more.

I want to know if there is any legal way I can demand to use the washing machine more times -as needed- WHICH WON'T BE 7 TIMES A WEEK. The most likely scenario would be just one time more, and only the weeks I CAN'T wash my bedsheets.

I'm reading my contract and it says nothing about how many times I can use it, it links with a rules doc she sent me when I arrived that also says nothing about it. But in new rules 'inside' the house, this rule is working.

(Of course, she puts all the laundries she wants, her daughters also, the boyfriend of the daughter also...)

Any way to defend using more times the washing machine, using the law as a back up? Just in case.

Thaaanks.

edit: I live with my landlord, so I'm asking to not just don't give a fuck, as I feel it's a bit disrespectful and may create unnecessary drama.

❓ Ask Belgium Lenen van je eigen bedrijf en dan de schulden kwijtschelden

Paul Gheysens heeft miljoenen geleend van Ghelamco en moet die nu niet meer terug betalen. Ondertussen geraakt Ghelamco in steeds slechtere papieren.

In practice I have to book at least a day in advance because otherwise there are no busses available. Not to mention the last flex bus is apparently at 22:00 which is pretty early, imo.
