Mint feel faster than bazzite?? I'm missing something?
Hello everyone!
Let me start by saying that I switched from Windows to Linux about a year ago.
I chose Linux Mint because of its stability and snappy performance. So far, my experience with Mint has been amazing. No issues whatsoever — it has been very stable and fast.
About a month ago, I decided to switch to Bazzite for a cooler, more modern KDE experience, and some quality-of-life features that KDE offers over Cinnamon.
For the installation, I used a clean SSD and completely wiped Mint before installing Bazzite. I did this simply because I wanted to avoid any issues with residual files or anything left over from Debian/Ubuntu-based distro
The installation went smoothly, with no issues whatsoever.
That said, I started using Bazzite, and everything seemed great at first. However, I feel like I’ve taken a step backward in terms of performance since switching.
- Startup is slower. It’s not terribly slow, but it’s noticeable.
- Logging into the desktop takes longer than I expected.
- Launching programs takes noticeably more time.
- Overall, the system feels like it takes longer to process my requests.
My PC has fairly decent hardware:
- CPU: Ryzen 9 3950X
- GPU: RTX 3080 ti
- Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD with high read speeds
- RAM 32 Gb
The biggest issue is that I never experienced these problems with Mint. Logging in and out was fast, and programs launched quickly and smoothly.
My experience with PCs and Linux is moderate. I’m not a complete beginner, and I know my hardware and what kind of performance to expect from it.
So, my question is, is this normal?
Could these issues be related to Wayland versus X11, or is there something I failed to optimize ?
I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions.
