Vent! Looking for a job in Barbados sucks!

I've sent in so many applications and nothing. It's only been 3 months since I've been looking for a new job. But it feels like forever. No one wants to give you an opportunity, they want years of experience. But the only way to get that is to get a job, and the only way for me to further my studies in my field is to make money to pay for it! No matter what field you try to apply for it's hell getting an interview and a call back! I'm so willing to learn and adapt but no one gives you the opportunity to prove that. Sigh!

Has anyone successfully made money posting content on YouTube from Barbados? What has it been like?

I'm a content creator and I focus mostly on creating short-form content for Instagram and TikTok, and both of those platforms have done pretty well over the last few years. My content is mostly Barbados focused, like restaurants, hotels, things to see and do, lifestyle, etc - the majority of my audience is Bajan, but I get viewers from overseas as well, especially in the diaspora or those visiting the island.

I've had quite a few people ask me if I'd consider doing longer content and posting it on YouTube. I did in the past but eventually moved onto focusing on shorter videos for IG and TikTok as they were easier and faster to produce. However I'm seriously considering it again as I'm wondering if it'd be a good means of getting passive income, especially as we don't have monetisation here yet for Caribbean creators for my other platforms.

Obviously I'm not expecting to make millions overnight, and it'll take a good long while to build up my viewership on YouTube, but I'm wondering if this is really worth investing time and effort in? I found this article from Trinidad that outlines the requirements.

I'm curious to know if there are any other creators out there who have been successful in making consistent money from YT? I've found a few online with larger subscriber pools etc but was curious if anyone out there would be willing to share their experience. Thanks!

Volunteer Places?

Hey! I'm living in Barbados for a few months starting in January and I want to actually meet people in the community instead of being a complete tourist. I was hoping someone could recommend volunteer places that could use an extra hand. I'll be in Oistins but not opposed to learning the bus routes!

Could be people, animals, whatever - I just want to help if I can be of use. Do you think there'll be any issues with me being a non-citizen? Should I be doing any applications now so I can hit the ground running?

Thanks everybody! Looking forward to seeing your island.

From,

Someone from another, much more desolate and oftentimes frozen island haha

Question Luggage storage at the beach

We have a whole day (probably about 10am-5pm) to kill between hotel check out and flight at the end of our holiday. I’m considering Savvy on the Bay or Harbour Lights as a beach day with luggage storage - any advice on choosing between the two? Also open to other suggestions!
Thanks

Question Christmas Day Lunch

First time on the island this year. We’re staying at The Raddison in Bridgetown.

I’m looking for somewhere local where my Mum and I can have a really nice meal.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. It doesn’t have to be a “traditional Christmas” meal but just looking for somewhere special

Many thanks in advance

Looking for some people to assist with the Pink Ribbon Drive at Massy Warrens next week .. Monday 19Oct through Friday 23Oct. it's easy .. really...
there are pink wrapped tins for people to put their donations into
then you thank them and pin a pink ribbon onto their collar, blouse etc.
the first shift sets up the table and gets the tins and ribbons from the Massy Store Managers desk and the last shift put it all back and gives back to the managers desk .. I'll be there as well.. just need extra hands.. thanks for your help. see the hours of operation.. we request 2 hours for each shift. BUT.. if you can only give an hour.. that's great.

ALL proceeds go to the Barbados Breast Screening Program.

Hello all,

I am hoping to attend some nice all inclusives and boat rides. Preferably a 30+ crowd. I have been to Barbados for carnival but am still not too familiar with djs, venues, or promoters to know who to look out for.

Any suggestions appreciated

Question Salary transparency?

Genuine question: How are you guys managing financially right now?

Gas prices are crazy, groceries keep getting more expensive along with electricity and internet bills.

Yet it seems like people aren't struggling (or hiding it pretty well), so I'm curious about what the average person here is actually earning.

For those comfortable sharing, are you making less or more than $2,500 monthly and what do you do?

Question The Flying Fish Issue (And cutters)

For clarification I'm half Bajan and have been going here to see my mom's side of the family since before I can remember. And due to overfishing and climate change flying fish has all but disappeared. It depresses me. The last time I found some was at a truck selling cutters on some random beach my youngest cousin (naturally I have, like, 8 cousins) took me to.

Y'all live there year round so do you know this truck or any place this stuff is hiding? I know it's imported from Trinidad but I don't really care, I actually have family there too, it's the same animal going in my mouth and outside of the occasional order of dim sum November pretty much counts as my yearly fish consumption quota.

Question Barbados: Public Beach Access Legislation Inquiry

Hello! I’m currently doing some research on beach access across the caribbean for a paper, and i wanted to know about any specific legislation regarding public beach access in Barbados.

I’m currently under the assumption that all beaches are public access but i’m trying to find any laws that specify that, the closest explicit statement i’ve found is in Cap. 394 - Coastal Zone Management, but i wanted to know if i was missing something?

Thank you in advance!!

Does anyone know this company?

Hi 👋 We are a group of 25 organising a trip to Barbados in February. We were looking at villas and found this site https://vacayum.com/ - prices seemed to be good to be true but at the same time it seems pretty legit. Does anyone have any experience?

Thank you so much in advance! We cannot wait to visit.

Question Does anyone realize this.

This isnt meant to cause hate or anything but it's a genuine question,as a Bajan it's common to say Good morning/evening what haves you and *most* people will answer back except for tourist imo all the tourist I walk pass and will greet they never seem to ever answer back do they think i'm gonna rob them at gun point or something? Is it a cultural difference I'd really love to know!
