Prospective Applicant Questions/Admission Chances
I'm a HS senior applying to colleges right now, and I wanted a general opinion on how likely my chances are at getting into Babson.
For grades, as it stands right now, I have a 4.29 GPA (weighted), with 2 honors, 3 dual-enrollment, 7 IB courses (4 this year), and 1 AP course that I am currently taking online. Additionally, I have a 1280 SAT (1310 superscored), so I plan to submit test-optional, as it is way below Babson's advertised range. The only concern I have class-wise is that I am currently taking precalculus, which, although it is the minimum requirement for admission, I am afraid it might harm my chances against stronger applicants.
Below are the classes I have taken that are "advanced":
IB History 1 SL
IB English 1 SL
IB Spanish IV SL
IB Business Management SL (Currently in)
IB English 2 HL (Currently in)
IB Math Analysis 1 SL (Currently in)
IB Spanish V SL (dual enrolling) (Currently in)
AP Macroeconomics (Currently In)
Social Studies/English Honors (Combined into one class)
Physical Science Honors
Personal Finance (dual enrollment)
Marketing (dual enrolling)
As for ECs, I work at my family business hanging Christmas lights for customers (sort of an internship, as I don't get paid, which is fine by me) while training new workers in basic operation functions/decoration techniques; I am the drum captain of my high school's marching band, helping 15+ percussionists with both marching + playing skills; I am in National History Day competing at states every single year and am the secretary for the chapter in promoting the club to other people; I take care of my elderly grandmother/check in on her a couple times per week while also driving my sister to dance practices 3 times per week, I am in chess club peer tutoring other kids in chess to help them improve their strategies/tactics, I ski with my friends often helping them with advanced carving techniques in addition to free style skiing, I did water quality testing for my town and sent the enviromental council a report which they are using in their database (I plan to do another round of testing too), I am restoring a boat for my senior project and plan on teaching kids in the summer how drive it before they even take their boater's test (legal as the boat is less than 25 HP so you don't need a license to drive it), I also invest as one of my hobbies with a total of $240 profit so far.
I know that's a big chunk of text above, but those are the things I can think of off the top of my head.
I am also in National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society.
Finally, my personal statement is about my chess daily puzzle streak (1324 days) and how almost losing it once as a result of poor cell service made me realize it wasn't just a game but an anchor that grounded me in reality and caused me to realize that no matter how complicated life gets, some things always remain constant.
I have another essay about transforming from a scared camper to a leader at summer camp, but I made the chess one because I felt the first one was extremely generic.
I plan on applying ED2 and am hoping for the best! Any insight on my chances or advice would be greatly appreciated!
