New rod today, it's a Purelure, but like all of their rods, I can't find an actual model name. I have a another Purelure telescoping rod, but it's much whippier than this. I thought the whippy one was okay, but this is way better suited to my needs. The reel is ...fine. I wouldn't recommend it, but it will do for now. For the price, you can better rod or reel, but together this makes a handy setup that can live in the Jeep.

Tackle General New BFS Set

I bought this SLX BFS and Major Craft rod on my trip to Japan. I wanted to go round reel but I had to be honest with myself that I just prefer low profiles. This was one of the few BFS reels they had at Joshuya. Super happy with it but still want to get an Avail spool. Love the 5 piece rod and case. It has an extra section to change the length and power too. The 4lb Varivas line was getting eaten by the spool sometimes so I have to figure that out. I could actually skip with this combo too. The amount of baits I bought wasn’t modest but it seems like it was never enough!

New setup for work/travel

I saw someone post a Cadence Elves telescopic rod on here not that long ago and I really liked the look of it. So I pulled the trigger on getting the rod and the matching reel, which I'm fairly certain is just a profishiency tiny but mighty rebranded.

It fishes, and fairly well! Very impressed, only negative for the rod so far is the not so great casting distance but that can be chalked up to the reel as well.

Speaking of the reel, the ratio is a little too low for me personally but I made it work with a micro chatterbait that seems to be the only thing fish are biting right now. Also the drag is weak af, might make a good trout rig. Soft rod and drag for soft trout jaws? Idk

But I love the aesthetic of it, might buy another in green or maybe get the spinning combo next time!

The reel is so tiny it's ridiculous and cute, the whole thing is tiny and cute, great for taking to work and i can fish during down time, or if I'm just extra bored.

The first smallie, cool looking little large mouth and big ass pickeral were the first three fish I caught on this setup, rest were on a eurotackle rise bfs with an abu garcia revo x bfs.

A time of my life.

Where do I start? Ended up going on a salmon run to finally put this species on my list. (1st on a fly rod, 3 on my UL 5 on my Calcutta 100 with 30HG shallow spool…9 in total) then today before my ninth one. I FINALLY got the brown I’ve been hearing about. 23” pics don’t do justice. Atleast 4.5/5.5 lbs, but my far me new Brown PB. Was a heart pounding fight once I saw him. I was terrified hearing my drag screen on 4lb test. Lucking the drag was set “PERFECT” and after 5 minutes, she tired herself out.

Little native cutthroat trout.

Went out to test the little wooly bugger jig from my last post and the trout loved it, all the trout in this creek are small but there is something nice about screwing around in a little creek full of beautiful little fish. Lucky to have a few places like this 15 minutes from the house!

Anyone else have to crank down the drag all the way basically in order to set the hook on a bass then let off the drag a little bit so you can wear the fish out and let it fight? Just wondering if this is normal across the board. I’ve lost quite a few fish from keeping the drag how I usually do. Noticed a huge difference once I basically cranked the drag all the way down when it comes to hook setting

BFS hair jig

A 1/16th ounce wooly bugger style jig I tied up today, should be killer on the local trout and bass, gonna try to get out and fish it tomorrow! This is tied in the “thin mint” style that’s popular with fly fisherman, I see why they like it! Here’s a link to the video on instagram if anyone wants to see it in better quality and with some music. I’ll also probably have these on my website in the next month or so https://www.instagram.com/reel/DesK-3Mxksa/?obrf=ZGN2cWt5bmU4MzZu

Reel 1# off Amazon Cheapo dc 150 price $24 USD drag Star 10 out of 10 clicks perfect can be adjusted to insane for such a cheap real build feels sturdy by don't feels cheap at all complain can't handle mono built only for braid the major issue here is the DC system is super finicky the marks break level don't mean anything you have to figure out the break settings by adjusting the break will do a full spin

Reel 2# lite spin Dc price $ 40 to 79 combo 120

Drag Star feels the cheapest parts of this reel works adjusting drag sun what not allot of wiggle room looks like a toy lego but it work like a charm . It built feels light like frame semi sturdy weight dropped a few times still works pro can handle braid lines even lower le lines just don't horse it it can also handle mono and floro have 6 lb mono on it currently the DC system works flawless probably where all the money went too upgrade the bearing to ceramics for fun 😊 now it casting ever better can recommend it you don't mind the toy look

Reeeel 3# Seasir DC round pro . 100 USD price tag to 120

It's a pure bfs reel made for braid . pro and cons

Con if you have a massive hand you can palm it's such tiny baby size reel you think it was not meant for use but pro it casting 2 to 19 gram lures way off like a rocket 🚀 and make such surreal DC noise the drag Star super honky you know when you have a fish on the line in Short works out of the box and can handle big fish I catch carp on it lol handle it like a champion .

Now the last RV reel 4# Shimano 2026 Calcutta conquest DC 192hg left price $ USD 400 plus Worth every penny con to expensive heirloom level reel will out last you .

Pro every thing works perfectly the drag clicks the casting is like a cheat code the dam DC system is super perfect even at the lowest setting you barely have to thumbs it it can work as as well as bfs reel thrown down to almost 1 gram lures with it and up to a whole 28 grams I thrown every size of pe line it to test to it's limits so still no issues it can handle about everything I thrown at this reel I can't find any flaw with it other then the price tag .. I can't wait to get the new abu reel to it out too . On pre order

Sold my CQ BFS Limited so that I may try this reel next month

30mm spool ,a mm wider than the CQ BFS will it perform better for power finesse?

Also they have the non DC version, the MAG which also kinda nice

Waiting for someone to modify it with china parts.Heard rumors they shared same bodyparts with the Loongze

BFS Reel help. Aldebaren vs Calcutta

hey, all looking to get my first true BFS set up. Narrowed it down to aldabaren BFS and Calcutta BFS.

I have a Calcutta, DC I picked up this year and I adore it. it’s my primary at home for with a steez SV for travel.

This BFS setup will be dual purpose. Part at home for the technique and part travel. I find myself missing the Calcutta on the road but not sure it’s the reel, the DC, or both.

does anyone have both and are there any pros or cons to either

ID do braid to floral same as the main set up with lighter line

its 100 bucks so not a huge deal just want to get the better reel not the more expensive one.

thanks!!

Review Kastking Kestrel Ultimate BC review

Rod: Purelure Creek Dance C604L
Test: Kirin Assasin x4 4lb (swapped from the 2.5lb ester)
Leader: Daiwa J-Thread 6lb
Lure: Daiwa Silver Creek Spinning lure 3g (0.1 oz)

My review - fantastic BFS reel. Had maybe 2-3 partial bird’s nest because I casted too quickly in the span of 3 hours. Solid reel, no rattling at all. Feels very premium with magnesium body. Threw 2g and 3g lure with no issue. If you’re a fan of BFS reel, get this bad boy. DC like performance without the DC part. Amazing value for money. Had to swap from 2.5lb ester line initially because it was digging through the spool gap.
