Question β Need help identifying these mechs - presumed an industrial or protomech
They look kind of spindly and poorly armed. Perhaps some sort of police mech chassis?

Attempted to update my BattleTech Buyer's Guide from years past for 2026.
Admittedly, it was impossible to not include a bunch of caveats in the graph itself, given that the line is in flux with the Core products only partially replacing what is in Total Warfare (and not explicitly invalidating them in the text, like Total Warfare did).
Props to the Catalyst Demo Team and some of the proofers of the Core Rulebook for their feedback on this diagram. I hope this helps people who are looking to get into the BattleTech tabletop games!
EDIT: Admittedly, I was more focused on the "classic" BattleTech elements and the state of the line when putting this together, since it's REALLY confusing right now. However, BattleTech Aces is also a thing and is an excellent expansion to the BattleTech: Alpha Strike line. Those boxes are a natural fit after buying either the Alpha Strike Box Set (as it is a dependency for the Aces boxes) or the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition rulebook.
EDIT 2: A slightly more updated version of the buyer's guide can be found here. This includes information about BattleTech: Aces in the admonitions and describes Alpha Strike as a faster-paced, larger-scale modern wargame instead of as a simplified ruleset.

Last thing I had left to do from the mercs kickstarter & as theyre "legendary mechwarriors" I wanted a suitably dramatic setting for the minis. Lets hope their heat sinks are working properly!

Even when I'm trying to build a better, more universe-friendly Merc company that wasn't just jamming a bunch of super OP and expensive mechs in and saying "Yeah, Mercs could totally have all that at once" this mech, this Kodiak thing keeps appearing to me.
Taunting me. Tempting me. "Look at this UAC-20. These Lasers. The ability to actually move a bit. This visage. Does it really matter if you technically shouldn't have me? Come on. Think of the looks on their faces."

Honestly one of my favorite pieces from the entire collection of official Japanese art. I actually don't know exactly which book this is out of, but I'm assuming it's the Black Widow Company Scenario Collection since that's the only one I don't otherwise have any art from. I found it unlabeled in a large zip archive.

The concept of this lance is "Humanoid Cyclops." They all move 6/9/6 and are able to commit unspeakable violence.
The Griffon IIC pushes the envelope for cyclops, but it's because I had a genuinely hard time finding cyclopes by that point.
Details on how to paint in the comments.

The first one is a no section with the standard flip up doors. In my opinion, that's a huge red flag that makes the mech taller than it needs to be. The second one is the section version of it. The third one is a no section with two doors split to open faster and not cause a height increase. I used a link belt type of transport system for reloading. Running missiles thru a tube and turning 90* before loading did not look reasonable.

I have been spreading the love today. I love the Stinger IIC. All the concepts of a Stinger, with enough firepower to force a PSR, at the low low cost of exploding the pilot into goo if you sneeze the wrong way.
Die with honor or die trying. This thing is a true solahma special. In game it makes a good objective runner, and a great hole puncher with which to start a backstab chain. Sure something with a clan LPL might just punch its ticket turn 1, but that's just how we roll.

Relatively new to the lore so correct me if Iβm wrong;
In the current era (or a future one) could we get a 5th succession war? I understand itβs been quite a few eras since the succession wars era proper but if I understand correctly no major IS faction has recognized the βthird star leagueβ and havenβt given up any claims they have.
So could there still be a succession war(s)? or has it been too much time in the setting that other than lip service to their claims no one realistically cares about remaking the star league anymore

I just finished Embers of War. Any good recommendations for similar quality, preferably standalone, full length BattleTech novels?
In my opinion, Embers was enjoyable. Not too heavy with fanservice. Not overly pedantic in explaining the necessary background / lore. Engaging characters. An evolving plot. Mechs fighting. Intelligently written with some good SAT words thrown in the mix.
I previously attempted Lethal Heritage, but quit over the excessive details about Clan culture (It's just not for me). I'm in the middle of Shrapnel Year 2, which is entertaining but short form. Otherwise I haven't read anything else BattleTech.
And yes, I perused the BT subreddit and the net. There's lots of novels, but the same basic "Gray Death Trilogy / Wolves on the Border" recommendations come up over and over. What about the other books? What about the newer books?

LRM's deal damage in clusters of 5 missiles (5 dmg each), while SRM's deal damage in clusters of 1 (2 dmg each). How do these other missiles cluster their damage? Does it change if you fire high explosive vs long range armament vs short range via an ATM?
Ex. I fire an ATM 3 using high explosive rounds and roll a 12 on the cluster table so all 3 missiles hit, for a total of 9 damage. How do I apply that damage to the enemy? A group of 5 and a group of 4? Three groups of 3 damage each? Does it change if I was using MRM's or other missiles?

Well⦠it finished printing at least? Definitely need to size up the locust, given the legs are coming out thinner than actual toothpicks. Still, I feel this is a good sign for the project! The lines came out pretty clean.
