16 Year Olds are Fun

My new driver backed into this car today. The owner wanted us just to pay her then (no idea an amount, wife talked to her). We told her to get an estimate before deciding whether to just pay out of pocket or filing an insurance claim.

I’m guessing an insurance claim will be the end result because I expect that entire panel will need to be replaced but I’m pretty clueless in this area.

Any thoughts?

So i think about buying 2003 Volkswagen polo. The car looks in my opinion fine. Until I spotted this rust spot. Is there any chance it is saveable (without cutting/welding) I didnt see the car in person for now.. it’s the only spot that concerns me

There was white marks as well but I wiped it with water but there’s still these marks left. It doesn’t feel deep but when I touch it with my fingers it feels rough/textured not perfectly smooth. I heard about the toothpaste method but Idk if that damages paint

Repair Addressing a panel rust seam

Post image

I found a pretty amazing 06 Silverado this past spring and I'm getting ready to spiff it up before the winter hits. It's paint is in really good condition except for this line of rub through that's on both rear fenders. Looks like they've been caused by some kind of previous camper shell. My steps will be...1) wash 2) treat with iron remover solution 3) clay mit w/ lubricant 4) light DA machine polish 5) surface prep spray to remove polish residue 6) and last CQuartz UK 3.0 ceramic. It's gonna end up looking nice nice.

Only thing is I don't know how the pictured rust lines should be treated, or where in the above process should they be addressed.

Simple and inexpensive is the priority. Any suggestions?

Repair Fender repair advice pls

Hi, previous owner hit something that pushed this flange on the front quarter panel and bumper down and back.

Im installing a new bumper and the flange is interfering so Im wondering what would be the best/safest way to bend this flange up out of the way?

Im not confident I can get it done with a hammer and dont want to drop a band for this little ding. Im thinking of trying to remove the headlight and using a strap to pull it from the end of the flange vertically then forward.

Do you think this could work or am I in over my head?

RUST Is rust repair worth it?

I have a 2016 Honda fit in the rust belt. Got a quote from a reputable rust repair place ranging from 2k-4k for rocker panel and dog ear replacements.

My question, how long does this sort of rust repair last? It seems silly to dump a couple k if it’s just going to happen again 2 years down the road. If it gives me more like 5 years, then it feels worth it. They cut out affected parts, replace, weld. My question is, once there’s rust is it ever worth it?

I appreciate any perspectives or direct experiences people can share.

Front Bolt of Lower Control Arm seized

Hi All,

The front bolt on the lower control arm of my 2009 Honda Accord seems to have seized. It sized about 1/4 of the way out and now it won’t come any further or go back in.
I’m at a loss for what to do here. Has anyone encountered this before?

RUST How do body shops read a Japanese auction grade 4R?

I saw a mid-2010s Japanese import listed as grade 4 with an R beside it, and the seller described it as a minor repair. A panel beater I know said the number matters less than where the repair was and how it was done, which sounds right but has me wondering how much weight body shops actually put on the auction grade. Do you treat a 4R as a red flag, or is it meaningless without seeing the sheet and photos?

What is this rust under my 2002 CRV?

Hi everyone - I noticed a section of severe rust under my 2002 honda crv but I can't tell whether its the frame or something else. What is it and how severe is it (as in, do I need to address it asap or is it non structural?) Thank you!

Failed MD inspection. Is it worth repairing?

I bough this Corolla 2020 with 81k miles, past year in TX where inspections are not required. The car had a clean title and dealership didn’t disclose it had a previous accident. The rear unibody has severe damage which is not visible. Now I’m living in MD and didn’t pass the inspection, the body shop said it’s around 7 ooo to repair. I don’t know if it’s worth to repair or sell it cheap and buy a new one.
