Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Minor's permit to full licence - Safety course

I wanted to find out if when transitioning from a minor permit to full licence, is it necessary to go through the safety course again?

My son is turning 18 and before I go through the licencing process with him and applying I want to be sure he don't need to go though that course again or book it in if needed.

Thanks all for your help.

22LR Scope - Mixed Use

Hey all, looking for some advice on a scope for a new Tikka T1X in 22LR. Spoke to the dealer when I picked it up and they were pushing Meopta MeoHunter R5 and MeoPro R6’s but I wasn’t a massive fan of them, especially with a 50mm optic on a relatively small rifle.

Interested though in what others are suggesting?
* Budget is up to $1500
* 80% range use to 100m, 20% farm use for rabbits.

Did the ‘ol AI ask and it’s suggesting a Leupold VX 3HD 6.5-20 x 40 if I can still find one.

Eye eye 👀 😜

Has anyone trained out eye dominance and if so how long did it take?

I’m right handed but left eye dominant. I can shoot rifles left handed and favour left side for pistols.

I’ve completed 3 training shoots as part of my probationary pistol training.

Tonight for a comp shoot the instructor said I need to get rid of eye dominance and made up a blinder (sticky tap and a bit of white paper)

Initially felt odd and wasn’t sure I’d even hit the target but managed 227 out of 250.

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated 👀🤣👍

Newbie question PTA in VIC

Hey guys just joined, got my license a few weeks ago and confused about one thing.
When I sent off my license application I also sent off a PTA for a Cat A 22LR.
Is this still gonna come in the mail? I thought the 28 day mandatory waiting period was served concurrently with the waiting time for the license.
Not sure if I should apply again online, very keen to go rabbit hunting.
If anyone else did this recently would love to hear how it goes, thanks so much :)

Sig P211 legality in NSW

Just wondering about Sig P211 legality in NSW.

P211 GTO apparently is against regulations, but GT5 is within regulations it seems?

But the thing is it seems all Sig 320 mags are against NSW regulations (source of info is Cleavers)...?

So this leaves me confused... is the P211 GT5 okay or not in NSW, because it needs Sig 320 mags.

General Discussion Lithgow Woomera for accuracy/PRS/long range

Has anyone got experience with the Lithgow Woomera/X-ray in 6.5CM for long range target shooting? I've been considering a Howa in a MDT XRS for getting into shooting further and PRS down the track would be cool if it gets more popular around me. I own another Howa and it's great for the price but the Woomera looks sick and is Aussie made. I know the long range sub loves their Bergaras and I was wondering where Lithgow fits in the hierarchy of rifles.

Crossbows

Folks, I have my Category M license and live in Queensland. I cannot for the life of me find a stockist for a crossbow in QLD. I reached out to some places in the NT (where it isn't a licensed weapon you lucky folks!) today who said they would struggle to get them into QLD. Does anyone have any hints or tips on who and how I can get one?

Firearms Query Looking at a Templeton T2000 in VIC

Have a Cat A & B license, i put down a deposit for one with the Store owner saying i shouldn't worry.

I was looking at a tacsorus and decided against it, going with the much higher rated T2000, and it was brand new too, Should i reconsider?

i'm worried i'll get it and it'll become recategorized into a Cat C :(

General Discussion Bringing firearm accessories back from the USA to Australia

I'm heading to the USA soon and looking at buying some firearm accessories while I'm over there, as they're significantly cheaper than in Australia.

Mainly looking at non-functional/cosmetic parts such as stocks, handguards, grips and mounts. For example, a Magpul SGA stock or Zhukov handguard.

Has anyone had experience purchasing these types of accessories in the US and bringing them back to Australia in checked luggage?

From what I've read, a lot of these parts don't require Australian import permits, but US export regulations seem to be the bigger issue.

Just wondering what people's experiences have been, whether any paperwork was required, and what accessories can legally be brought back without permits.

I'm based in SA. Cheers!

Buying under over shotgun for left handed shooter

I’m looking at buying a break action/under over for shooting clays on our farm. I’m left handed - but getting left handed firearms is tricky. How important is it for me to get a LH shotgun or could I get away with a right handed? The Templeton Nero comes in left hand but I also like the look of the ATA 686 and they only have RH.

Another bloody PTA question PTA approvals, gun safe site glitch

Just a heads up that if you have a mix of old system and new system PTAs and your new system ones have been approved but the old system ones are still referred for adjudication. Check your my documents tab on far good chance they are all approved, it happened to me and now speaking to a couple other people they have had the same problem.

Legislation- New South Wales NSW Declaration to FAR after seeking counselling for loss of child support

Hi All,

Recently had a bit of a terrible outcome with my wife and I losing our child last month at 26 weeks old due to pregnancy complications.

It’s been horrible to grieve and I’ve had family reach out to suggest we do some counselling especially as us men tend to bottle up things.

Given NSW stance on any excuse to questions licences validity I’m just wondering what’s the best way to tackle the situation, not on any medication or depressed by any means but I also don’t want to lose my hobby just for seeking support with my wife..

I presume it’s best to get a letter upfront and what not but obviously have my hesitation trusting the firearms registry as of late and don’t want to hide anything either..

The linear compensators really do work.

I was going to make my own but after looking at the prices for a quality 1/2" tap just went ahead and bought a Diggers Tactical fluted one. https://diggertactical.com.au/products/digger-tactical-fluted-linear-compensator It is amazing. It really does direct the blast away from the shooter. 18"barrel 223 and I can get away with just simple ear protection rather then plugs and earmuffs.

The Henry Supreme is awesome as well.

Importing Shotgun Stock

Hi Guys , i am thinking of importing a shotgun stock and forearm directly from the manufacturer in Germany to Western Australia. I read the B709 form it seems like the permit isnt needed for this type of stock?
Please guide if someone has imported something similar.

Range air safety

It was my understanding that indoor ranges had airflow designed to move from the shooter towards the target area to reduce exposure to lead and fumes, but recently after sitting next to someone with a muzzle break and having everything blown off my bench from the back blast and breathing his soot for 30 minutes, I wondered if design needs to change nowadays ? Should the bay separators be made longer to avoid this “cross contamination”? Even worth raising this with the SSAA ?

I know I’m a woos, but I like the idea of clean lungs…..

Provisional Handgun License VIC

I sent my provisional licence documents through to the LRD 2 weeks ago and emailed them asking if they've received my documents. They said they received my new application on the 1/10, however, I have not received any email or notification mentioning anything about the processing time and the current rounds.

I've looked through the forum and people have mentioned weekly emails from LRD updating them on which applications are currently being processed. Am I supposed to receive this email or do I just wait until I receive the provisional licence?

Banter What guns have deep cultural significance in Australia

I’m Canadian, and here in Canada we see both the Lee Enfield and the SKS as our signature firearms. I was wondering if there was something similar in Australia?
