You might have heard the term "Karmic Debt" a lot of times. In Hindi, we call it "Runanubandh". If we think of our life as a bank account, it means we are born just to balance our sheet. There are two main types of entries in this ledger.
- The debt we owe to others. We are born to give them our time, wealth, or peace because we took something from them in a past life.
- The debt others owe to us. These people come into our lives to help us, support us, or give us wealth to settle their old accounts.
To understand how this karmic ledger works, let me tell you a story about the ancient astrologer Kalidas. Kalidas was a great astrologer in his era. He was so accurate that nobody could ever question his past and future predictions.
There is something called "Adhana Kundali". Kalidas was a master of it. While a regular birth chart is made when a child is born, the Adhana Kundali is created at the exact time of conception.
When the wife of Kalidas conceived their first child, he created the Adhana Kundali. When he read the chart, he started crying. The chart clearly showed that this son was coming just to collect a past life debt from Kalidas. Like any loving father, Kalidas gave the boy the best life possible. He provided good food, nice clothes, a comfortable home, and top education. The moment Kalidas spent enough to clear his karmic debt, the first son died.
Destiny has its own plans, and his wife conceived again. Kalidas again made the Adhana Kundali and cried once more. This time, the chart showed that the second boy was being born to pay back a debt he owed to Kalidas.
Out of deep attachment, which we call "putra moh", Kalidas did not want to lose another child. He reasoned that if the boy never got a good education, he would never earn wealth. And if he never had wealth, he would never be able to pay back the debt. So, Kalidas kept him uneducated on purpose to save his life.
But karma always finds its way. When the boy was young, he would silently watch his father study charts and give predictions. Without Kalidas knowing, the boy quietly learned this vidya of astrology just by observing.
One day, a famous king in a nearby kingdom had a newborn son. The king hosted a grand celebration and invited hundreds of priests and astrologers to make the birth chart of the royal baby. Kalidas's second son also went to this event with his mother.
The king was very stressed because almost all the astrologers predicted that his newborn son would bring shame, defame, and ruin to the kingdom.
Then, the son of Kalidas stepped up with his own chart. His prediction was completely different. He told the king that the royal baby would be a great ruler, bring fame and prosperity, and expand the boundaries of the kingdom. The king was puzzled and asked for the reason behind this totally different prediction. The boy explained that the other priests had used the wrong Ayanamsa, which is a key calculation in astrology. Using the correct Ayanamsa, the chart of the royal baby was actually excellent. The king asked the other priests to verify this, and they could not negate the boy's findings.
The king was extremely happy and offered the boy expensive gifts. The boy refused. The king insisted and requested him to at least take a lunch box for the journey back home. The boy could not refuse the king out of respect.
The boy and his mother returned home, ate the lunch, and shortly after, the boy died.
When Kalidas found out, he was filled with grief. He asked his wife exactly what happened that day. She narrated the whole story about the royal event and the lunch box. Kalidas asked her to bring the lunch box. When he opened it, he found a small box inside filled with gold, silver, diamonds, and expensive stones. The boy had paid the debt to his father, and having cleared his account, he left the world.
Key Lesson
The beauty of astrology is that it often helps us find a reason to accept the bad things happening in our lives. We often grieve over people who leave us too soon or give us a hard time. So the next time someone walks away from your life after you gave them everything, do not lose your sleep over it. They just closed their account. And the next time a total stranger goes out of their way to help you in a crisis, just smile and know an old loan was just repaid and be thankful. We are not here to force people to stay or control how they act. We are just here to clear our tabs and zero out the balance sheet. Treat people well, pay your dues, and let the rest go.
