Hi, my cat got misdiagnosed with diabetes and was described insulin, after which she fell into a hypoglycemia coma

Hi, my cat got misdiagnosed with diabetes and was described insulin, after which she fell into a hypoglycemia coma after a month of taking it, the vet makes it look like its our fault to not have double checked the blood faster, but that was after he ALREADY diagnosed her and gave her 4 stripes of insulin in a 40 syringe 2 times a day, he also didn't explain that we had to give that AFTER food, our cat went into a coma yesterday, her temperature went down to 33 and her sugar was almost non existent. We paid alot for everything and we have a big trauma from it all, do you think the vet has to make this right? He also never checked her urine or anything else, her sugar was slightly higher but still in a very normal range, she has alot of annoying symptoms such as obsessive eating and drinking and peeing an pooping all over our house, but that could be many reasons and could be many ilnesses. We feel so angry, so defeated by it all. Luckily she made it, hopefully the weekend goed well. I feel like he has to fix this or pay us back a part of the expenses.
We almost don't have any money left for food and this situation cost us almost all our savings, but the biggest issue ofcourse is that this was deeply traumatic. We went to more vets and also the clinic and all of them told us this in not diabetes, and the blood results don't say anything obvious proving the diabetes, they were also shocked, what do you guys think? After all of this craziness we still don't know what her real illness is.

Reassurance about induced vomiting for pets

Last night my dog ate some dark chocolate and was obviously taken to an emergency vet so they could induce vomiting.

They took him into a back room and then brought him back to me after he had thrown up everything and had been given some medicine. Everyone there was so kind and amazing, so logically I know that they were being as kind as possible to my boy; but there’s a part of me that feels guilty for not being there to comfort him while he was sick. Can a vet just confirm that you guys comfort and love on the animals as much as you are able to when you do a procedure like that?

How common is it to take cat blood sample under sedation?

Just wondering how common it is to use sedation (gas cage, unsure of the name of it) to get a blood sample from a cat. I’ve had lots of cats and never experienced this prior to this week. The cat was hard to keep still, but she wasn’t violent; no biting or scratching. 3 techs and not one had the tiniest mark from this cat, but they couldn’t get the sample so they sedated her.

My cat won't stop cobbing his tail.

Cat / 3 years old / male / neutered / DMH / 12.5 pounds

History: I think he might be inbred and he had a hernia repaired as a kitten. On 5mg Prozac for anxiety. Nothing else to note.

Location: Near Seattle

(I have seen a vet and I don't think this is actually a skin problem.)

Last spring my cat started to do the "corn-on-the-cob nibbling" with the ridiculous little nmnmnmnm sound concentrated toward the distal end of the tail. Often. He acted normal otherwise.

It slowly increased and by September every time I look at this cat he's whipping around and going NMNMNMNMNM on his rear end. Like suddenly stopping what he's doing to attack his tail and he actually removed a substantial amount of hair (but no bald spots). So I make a vet appointment.

The morning of his vet appointment I notice his butthole is sticking out and raw and red. This is new. A couple hours later at the vet it's completely back to normal.

I showed her a picture of what his butt was doing and she didn't seem concerned, said he probably just had a hard bowel movement. She gave him a physical exam and bloodwork, both normal. She said it's probably behavioral and to up his Prozac.

I don't think it's behavioral. I think there is some abnormal sensation/pain/neuropathic discomfort or an anal gland issue. I'm very familiar with male cat urinary problems, this isn't that. There are no fleas, dandruff, crusts, sores, etc.

What should my next step be?

Amoxicillin For Cat

Hi, I’ve been feeding the neighborhood tom cat and one of them has multiple abrasions to his nose from fighting that is now affecting his eye and has facial swelling. I have human amoxicillin dosing at 825mg and was wondering how much I should give him. His estimate weight is 10-15lbs. Before commenting to take him to the vet, I have $20 in my account. If I could take him, i would. Please useful comments only, this cat means dearly to me

Thinking ab switching vets

I have a 4y/o staffie/pittie, a 1 y/o lab/pittie mutt, and 2 cats. My family & I have gone to our vet for 20 years, with all our animals. Of course we have our favorite doctors, secretaries, techs, assistants etc. But I had such a bad experience today i’m thinking of switching.

My two dogs chased, hunted and killed a skunk 9 days ago (6th). I called my vet immediately to ask what the next steps were. They told me since they had no visible bites or scratches & since they are up to date on their rabies, they are fine. My younger guy was due for his rabies re up in November, so we scheduled an appointment for the 14th to do it all then anyway to be extra safe, since he’s so young.

At the appointment, the doctor asks ab some scratches he got from our cat and being a crazy puppy. I tell her i don’t think any are from the skunk. She goes huh? So i tell her about the skunk incident. She goes very quiet and asks who told me i didn’t need to get them boosted, that no one’s in trouble but they need to retrain the staff on proper rabies protocol. she tells me both boys needed to get a booster within 5 days of the incident. It’s already been over a week. She asks if I can bring my older boy in later that day, i said I could but he gets Trazadone before coming in to the vet since he’s so anxious. She says we can wait till friday (16th) but it has to be done.

At checkout, I make an appointment for Friday the 16th at 9:20. I confirm the details, and the secretary accidentally put it in for the 15th. She moves it to the 16th and I could’ve sworn she said 9:30.

I show up at 9:31 on the 16th. I walk in and am immediately told my appointment has been cancelled since it was actually for 9:20. I apologize, say I messed that up, and ask if there’s any chance to just get him the rabies booster (skip the annual visit we also had for that time) considering the circumstances. She tells me no, they’re booked back to back and as she’s saying that a man walks in with two cats for his 9:40. I mention how the doctor wanted him in ASAP, and that monday would basically be 2 weeks. She tells me she called me earlier to let me know the appointment would be cancelled due to me being a no show.

I leave and check my phone, they called at 9:27 when I was driving in, leaving a voicemail canceling the appointment. I was late, that is 100% my fault. But the fact that I was given seven minutes before the appointment was completely canceled when they booked in a full annual plus bloodwork and rabies booster for 20 minutes gives me a pause. They would’ve 100% been late for the next guy regardless of me being seven minutes late. I understand it backs up appointments for the whole day, but all I asked was for the rabies booster to be administered, cancel the annual, just so that he’s protected, especially in light of them originally & erroneously telling me he did not need a booster.

I called another local vet and they were able to get me in today for the rabies booster and are going to contact my Vet for the details. I’m thinking if it goes well at the new Vet I transferred over. Is that too much of a reaction? Is it bad to change vets when my dog is comfortable with them because of this one incident? I’m just uncomfortable with the fact that they compromised my dog’s health now twice. I understand I was late and that is my fault, but I’m not being at all flexible when it was their original mistake that led to this is very upsetting to me.

Thanks!

TLDR, my vet originally said my dog didn’t need a rabies booster, then said he did after over a week, cancelled the booster appointment for us being 7 minutes late & refused to help us out at all. Is it wrong of me to want to change vets?

Why was my dog cut this way? Mass removed 10.15.26

  • Species: Dog
  • Age: 7 yrs
  • Sex/Neuter status: f spayed at 5months
  • Breed: heeler, border, Australian shepherd
  • Body weight: 68lbs
  • History: healthy, active, overweight great appetite
  • Clinical signs: 1.) mass found on lower left abdomen behind elbow, swollen axillary & groin nodes. 2.) Signs of mild lameness after exercise( 3yrs ongoing issue)
  • Duration: mass may have been there for yrs, just started growing in march 2026
  • Your general location: Pennsylvania, usa
  • Links to any test results, X-rays, vet reports etc. that you have: https://imgur.com/a/bv5qQN4

I thought the mass was a muscle as it was difficult to feel when she is standing up. When she sat or layed i noticed it was like a firm jello. 2 weeks ago at the veterinarian office, i asked about an elastography ultrasound as its non invasive and can diagnosis 96% ppv. Her veterinarian did fna and said it was most likely lipoma, she also tested the swollen axillary lymph node(clear), but not the groin one. She indicated because of size of mass ( 6"x 4" )it may have mixed cells or cancer underneath. We decided to have it removed and sent to pathology. The vet said my dog had a lot of loose skin, could feel underneath the mass and that removal wouldn't be an issue. she then motioned how shed cut horizontal starting behind the left leg and across the chest. We scheduled the apt for 2 weeks out. Yesterday,10/15/26 was her surgery. A different veterinarian was going to perform the operation and wanted to see the mass before she started the procedure. She said that my dog would need a 12inch cut or more. They took her in the back for the procedure 915am. The predicted 1hr operation took over 3

Questions: i have many. Im curious, ive looked at similar tumor removal photos, why does my dog have much larger incisions than dogs with much larger masses? Are flatter masses more difficult?

Why 2 different veterinarians have drastically different removal plans? Why make a vertical cut against the leg( wont the leg pull the skin apart)?

Are the cuts vertical instead of horizontal because the tumor was partially on the lower chest and sutures hold that area better in vertical direction?

the veterinarian did not say that it was an inflitrative mass, but said that "it was a big fat wad attached to the skin and difficult to remove", if it was infiltrative, would that make a difference in the cuts?

Im just trying to understand why her incisions seem so large compared to the size of the mass. Shes been leaking fluids from the sutures for over 24hrs. The photo of her incisions is from when we first got home with her 3pm yesterday and she layed down on the entry way carpet. She dripped blood till 4am this morning. Then it turned into that clear and pink fluid.

Should i put bandages on my dog or is the open air better for healing and avoiding bacteria?

My neutered cat just likes to whip it out? Is this normal?

I have owned cats my entire life and have never seen a cat dingaling until this guy. But now it's everywhere. He sees a fluffy blanket minding it's business? Bricked up (and sin biscuits). Just lounging on a relaxing Tuesday afternoon? Chubbed up. I can't relax in my own home without being visually subjected to a cat erection. He's 3 years old and was neutered around 2.5 years ago. He's always been like this to some degree, but I feel like he's exposing himself/humping blankets more and more lately. He has no history of UTIs, eats well, plays often, and is generally in very good health. Should I be concerned with his behavior or are some male cats just like this?

Is my dog suffering?

My dog (basenji) was hit by a car today. He dug out of the fence and got hit right in front of my daughter while she chased him.

The vet said the x-rays didn't show any structural damage. No breaks, no nothing. Everything looked good.

But, he cant move his back legs. The vet said the hope is its just swelling that goes down in a few days until he can move again. They said something about lacking a deep pain response when they pinched his toes. We've got him in a dog bed next to our bed, and he keeps licking my hand and trying to get up and move around.

Realistically... what are the chances here? My wife and daughter are convinced he'll be walking in no time. I really hope he is. I love this little guy so much. But I dont want him to suffer for my happiness.

Thanks. Hug your pets extra tight tonight.

Is it common for early stages of testicular torsion to be missed?

Before my dogs first birthday he started to lay in the bathtub, I didn’t think much of it. Until I noticed one of his testicles felt weird. What I felt: left was normal, right was slightly swollen and there was a hard mass on it. I asked google it told me my dog has cancer. I called and took him in that day. The vet told me my dog has large ba11s and questions why I was feeling them. Understandably, I take my dog hiking with fleas and ticks. Dog and I get washed in flea and tick shampoo afterwards along with daily checks. Dr dismissed my concerns. Paid sixty five bucks for that visit. My pup would get his regular check ups from that same dr. A couple months after his second birthday, he stopped eating, wasn’t as active, most importantly stopped playing with his brother. I found a different vet who told me my dog had testicular torsion and I got him into surgery two days later. After the surgery he went back to his happy self, he also stopped laying in the bathtub. Im just mad that I didn’t follow through with my gut and find a doctor earlier who could have found it and not dismissed my concerns. It would have cost $500 less if he would have gotten surgery a year earlier. I didn’t have them removed at six months because he was already showing signs of hip dysplasia as a puppy. I wanted the growth plates to completely form before surgically altering my pup.

Bad experience at vet, am I in the wrong for being upset?

So I want to start by saying the last year has been hell & nonstop stress for my family with my dad being constantly in and out of the hospital with cancer. He ultimately passed away.

So I lived/live with him & my mom, sister and we have 5 cats and 3 dogs (most of which are rescues) We were struggling financially thru this (although are ok now because of his life insurance) We had a major problem with our septic system and having to replace it for $18,000 while my dad was sick as well.

During this time, we developed a flea infestation in our backyard. I tried my best to combat it, treated the yard on my own with otc products, treated all the animals with Frontline (I couldn't afford to take every pet to the vet & get what they wanted me to get) I vacuumed constantly, used flea combs, spray, etc. All the while working and taking care of my disabled sister while my mom & dad were at the hospital the majority of time.

Our little 14yr old dog started becoming very itchy 2 months ago. I check her for fleas regularly but don't notice any. She doesn't go outside accept on the patio occasionally(she uses puppy pads in the house) When ragweed season starts she always becomes itchy. I did treat her with an itch spray and wipes that seemed to help for awhile.

Yesterday she scratched her ear badly(her nails need to be trimmed and we haven't made it to the groomer)

Now she hasn't been to the vet in awhile because she rarely has issues and we don't take her places. She mostly just sleeps because she's so old and tired.

Vet walks in and I immediately feel judged for not having her updated on all of her vaccines, for using Frontline instead of taking her in for prescription preventative and for not having my yard professionally treated. This vet talked down to me like I was stupid, repeating things she already said like 5 times over. She told me she couldn't sedate her to clean it up real well because she had eaten recently(which I understood) but she kept repeating that to me like I didn't understand (even though I said "Yes I completely understand" everytime) I was fine with just getting the cone, antibiotics and pain pill until I could take her in again on an empty stomach. After about 15min of being lectured to, I mentioned that my dad died of cancer and I couldn't get her in sooner than I wanted to treat the allergies, she just said "ok" with a blank face.

This costs $300 which I was fine paying. I then ask if they can clip her nails since she is scratching & that caused the gash on her ear. Vet tells me it's "really expensive"(not sure how bad it could be considering I just told her I'd fork over $300 for everything else lol) She acted like she didn't want to do it and says they promote a "fear free environment" & clipping nails causes animals unneeded stress at the vet(as if everything else they do doesn't lol?) And she didn't "want my dog to hate or fear her" (again, wtf) And I know this is bullshit because another vet there (who is co-owner) actually cut my dog's nails before, a few years ago. And my dog does really well at the groomer, but I'm not comfortable doing it myself.

So she walked out of the room and then the assistant walks in. I ask assistant why they won't do nail trims and she goes "we do them" and I'm like "the vet we just spoke to won't do them" She looked really uncomfortable, said it was costly & they like to promote a stress free environment, but eventually said she'd do it for about $30. So I don't even know what to think at this point. I tell her to forget it & I'll go to the groomer. Now I understand vets may not want to do that regularly, but my dog's injury was partially because her nails really need to be trimmed (so it seems like it should be medically necessary??)

And another thing is the vet thinks my dog has a heart murmer & wanted me to make an appointment to have a bunch of tests & scans done. And of course the price estimate was A LOT (way more than the 'costly' nail trim) And my dog is nearing 15yrs old, I don't know if I want to put her thru all that when she likely doesn't have long left. But I wasn't going to say that to this vet because I suspect I'd just be getting shamed for it.

Also funny story, I got to chatting with another client there who told me she started seeing another veterinarian at this place because this one (that I saw) told her that her dog had a bad heart murmer and scared her into thinking her dog had heart failure. She went to another veterinarian at this same place on the next visit and this lady said she didn't hear anything & couldn't detect a heart murmer 🤨

Avian specialist advice opinion PLEASE

My 1yo unsexed Lovebird presented with some crusty growths on its gape at the corner of the beak. When i took him to the avian vet they did a poop test hi -bacteria was 60% to40% +bacteria. He prescribed .5 syringed antibiotics twice a day. The first week you can see the left crust grow by the second week it looked like a whole wart just big flaky and definitely producing some like bile type the gland ok that side on the top of his beak looked infected and later could tell under his tongue on that side also ulcer puss type masses. At the recheck he scraped off the mass with a qtip and got the surface big top but would pry on the skin more. Then he prescribed anti-inflammatory and more antibiotics. When I raised concerned over reading I had done that too many antibiotics can lead to its own complications he immediately was just like ok so no antibiotics which confused me bc wouldn’t that be something you considered before I said something and why drop it just because I brought it up I’m not sure it seems like he may not be fully versed or aware of what steps to actually take or what to look for. It’s just concerning that it’s been a month and he’s gotten worse without getting much better. I suggested I come back within the week to check him again bc he had mentioned getting a small blood sample a biopsy of the growth and a cloaca cell sample… I’m just not sure he’s doing the best seems like he’s just blindly trying random things while my baby keeps getting worse. I have a regularly scheduled appointment with an emergency center next Monday to get a second opinion I’m just scared that something could just take a turn for the worst suddenly. Any tips advice what I can do to advocate for him better

Grief

Hello,

I am having to put my cat down because essentially his liver failed. I am really struggling with immense guilt about not taking him in sooner. He is a very finicky cat when it comes to eating and we noticed him eating a bit less and thought maybe it was a phase or allergies or something. We monitored it for a week and still eating much less. Probably about 50% less by week 2. Week two we tried trouble shooting giving him new flavors, wet food, etc. Still not eating. By week three he was eating 70-80% less so we booked an appointment with our Vet. They took bloodwork and next day recommended ER. They tried 24 hr stabilization to see if we could get him to eat. Liver ALT varied from 650-700. Next day still not eating so we planned a feeding tube and while he’s under to test his liver for lymphoma. They then found his blood wasn’t clotting so vitamin K and blood transfusion. Still no clotting. Since we couldn’t test for lymphoma they basically told us lymphoma was a huge possibility and the feeding tube would be intrusive. We chose euthanasia. I am really really really struggling with the fact that maybe there could’ve been a different outcome if we took him in sooner. Like what if it’s not lymphoma and we’ll never know? Maybe it wasn’t and we could never test because his liver got too bad. I just didn’t realize he was declining so rapidly. My guilt is so immense I don’t know what to do. I love him so much and I just really thought he would eat again on his own.

Dog licked site after neuter

My est. 1 year old large, male dog had a plush cone on in his kennel while I needed to be out of the house for roughly 2.5 hours. He was neutered this morning and when I returned home I realized he was able to lick his surgical site. I immediately switched the cone out (I have two dogs that were fixed, one was plush and one was a full collar). I had put on the plush one, thinking it would be more comfortable in the kennel (my bad, never again). How concerned do I need to be about this? The incision is still closed, but his scr*tum is red. He’s a light colored dog prone to redness in the first place, so I’m not sure what to be concerned about. The clinic I went to is closed until the morning.

Senior Dog Not Eating With Entyce?

Hello, obligatory on posting mobile so formatting might be weird.

Dog Info - Clementine: 12 y/o spayed Chihuahua. Healthily weighs 5lbs.

On 10/7, I took Clementine to the vet for lethargy, lack of appetite, and standard URI symptoms.

She was diagnosed with a URI, and given 10-day course of Doxycycline, Clavamox, and Entyce. She was also given injections the day of the visit. (Can't remember what specifically)

She has been steadily getting better URI symptoms wise, no longer sneezing or coughing. We're almost finished her medications, but her lack of appetite has only gotten worse.

Flash forward to today - 10/16 - she is barely eating and has lost a significant amount of weight (probably almost 2lbs). Despite giving the Entyce as instructed, she refused to even lick most food.

We found one brand of wet food she ate when trialling a bunch, we stocked up on it but now she refuses to even lick it.

Currently, to ensure she is at least getting some calories, we're giving her high-calorie gel and Cheese Curls. (Literally the only thing she is semi consistently eating.)

So, I wanted to ask if Entyce not working for some dogs is normal? I wanted to get advice before I take her to the vet again.

No appetite, drooling, and a wound between upper lip and on cat's nose

I have been away at college and recently was told about my cat developing a wound around his nose area. My mom stated that a foul smell was coming from a clear liquid that was coming out of his mouth. He was licking and constantly itching his nose area, causing a wound to open and bleed. She took him to the vet where they prescribed an antibiotic, and said that it seemed like he had been hit in the face. He is an indoor cat and is constantly around the family, someone would have noticed if this is the case. After the antibiotics, my mom said that the smell went away. He has been extremely unmotivated, sleeping all day, showing interest in food and trying to eat but cannot. He will chatter in what I can assume is pain when he attempts to eat. He has a history of weird breathing, we never got him formally diagnosed but we suspect asthma to be a possible cause. I've always treated this with a humidifier, but have been away at college and can't be sure that my family continued this. I'm extremely concerned and going to visit the vet again tomorrow for x-rays and bloodwork. He has never been this sick before, I don't know what else to do.

3 days post-op from spay and puppy is refusing to walk/stand.

My 7 month old husky mix was spayed Tuesday Morning, the appt was booked by the rescue we got her from because they pay for it. At pickup, the vet tech let me know that she was being vocal and was sensitive. They gave her extra pain meds. She said surgery went well. Well, she refused to walk to the car, so I carried her.

At home she refused to walk or stand, and if we took her outside to pee she’d freak out. We’d try to take her out without the E collar on because we thought maybe she was really bothered by it, but she would throw herself on the ground and refuse to walk around or pee/poo. I got her a recovery onsie to try thinking that might help. She eats and drinks but won’t greet us, won’t climb stairs, walk or pee outside. My husband called the vet Thursday and they told us to bring her in. They gave her an injectable dose of an opioid, gabapentin, and more oral pain meds (not all at the same time, meds to take home).

When I try to lift her onto her feet to try and bring her outside, she pees on herself. She’s not trying to lick the incision, the vet inspected the incision and said it looked fine. I’ve never seen such an extreme reaction from a medical procedure before, my cat had his leg amputated years ago and the day he came back from the vet he was walking around and back to his normal self.

I’m at a loss, she seems like she’s scared all the time. Even when we try to button or unbutton the onsie (nowhere near the incision site) she yelps and cries. She’s not herself at all. Now that she’s on even more meds I’m worried it’s sedating her too much. Is it just post surgery sadness? Could there be something else wrong? I’ve never had a female dog before, all dogs previously I’ve had were neutered so the surgery was was less invasive. So I don’t know what’s normal.

My kitten won’t stop vomiting

Hi everyone,

My kitten (4.5 months old) was neutered 2 days ago. The surgery was fine and he got given pain killers which didn’t agree with him. The following morning (yesterday) he was vomiting and having diarrhoea. I rang the vet and they saw him again, they said everything looked ok and it was probably just the pain killer. So they gave him some prescription food, an anti-sickness jab and a new painkiller.

Throughout yesterday and today he was better but lethargic as expected . But tonight he’s been very upset , hiding, ears back and experiencing more vomiting and diarrhoea. What should I do? My vets are closed until Monday. He also is wearing cone of shame so cannot groom himself properly after pooping which is making him stressed as I have to wipe (being careful of his wounds of course )

Any advice please

High ast and alt in cat, threw up after syringe feeding, I need a second opinion

Male cat, 6.5 years, 6.5 kg

Our cat has been throwing up on and off for several days. Wednesday night (48h ago) is when he last ate his dry food. He then threw up. I took him in next morning. He has elevated AST and ALT but normal bilirubin and ALP. They started him on nexium, amoxicillin and a liver supplement. I syringe fed some purina liquid hydration last night (Thursday). He was in at the vet today got IV fluids and syringe fed royal canin recovery (around 70% of can). He retched this 2 hours after I picked him up.he started drinking water himself but small amounts after that. He went pee two times, small amounts. He has no interest in food.

Vet had said to bring him in tomorrow for IV and feeding again.

I messaged them and waiting for a response.

Is this an emergency now? Do I need to take him somewhere else?

Thanks

Chill Protocol - Creative Tricks?

Hey everyone!

To preface, I have a GSD/Malinois/Border Collie mix that I rescued a few years ago. He has gone through training, he’s amazing in all aspects of life except the vet. The vet is truly the worst situation for him and he’s on a protocol w/ gaba (900mg), traz (200mg), and ace (12.5mg) just to get a poke in the butt to fully knock him out. We’ve gone to multiple trainers that couldn’t improve his behavior at the vet... I was taking him to the vet weekly for the whole year with rewarding, the vet would play with him, grab him, etc. Then when it comes time to poke him, he thrashes and lunges and wants to bite (he is muzzled and muzzled trained). It’s bad enough that they allow me to be the one to handle him in this scenario because I’m the only one that can subdue him enough to get the needle.

All of this stuff to ask - are there creative methods that anyone uses?

I’m not talking about licking peanut butter or using a toy to distract him (it doesn’t work). I’m talking blow darts, poles with the syringe attached, methods that don’t require a person to approach him… a zoo vet type of trick lol.

Side note: I am 100% FOR the meds. I want him knocked out because my priority is the staff’s safety when handling him. But he’s an extremely smart dog and has learned the difference between fun visits/pretend syringe poking at the vet versus the real exam day situation.

How serious is it when an adult elephant collapses and cannot get back up?

An adult wild Asian elephant named Kawantissa in Sri Lanka has been receiving treatment for a leg wound. Recent reports also mentioned diarrhoea, and today (16 October) he was found collapsed in a paddy field. Wildlife vets are treating him, but I haven’t seen confirmation of whether he can stand again.

I would appreciate an explanation from anyone with elephant or large-animal veterinary experience:

- What makes being unable to stand particularly dangerous for an elephant?

- Can elephants recover after being down for a prolonged period and how long is too long?

- What signs or clinical findings help vets assess their chances of recovery?

I understand nobody can predict his outcome from news reports alone. I’m hoping to understand what this situation means medically.

I’m concerned because my cat started drooling. he only did it for a small amount of time and it was while he was purring and being cuddle. Is this a happy response or should I be worried?
