Race Shoe Question First half marathon in 1:46—stick with the EVO SL for my first full?

Title: First half marathon in 1:46—stick with the EVO SL for my first full?

Just ran my first half at the Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon and finished in 1:46! My goal was simply to break two hours because ive never raced before, but I felt great for much longer than expected and ended up surprising myself. I wore the EVO SL because, obviously, it’s the best shoe on the planet.

Now I’m looking ahead to the full Detroit Marathon next year. Would you stick with the EVO SL for the full distance or consider something else?

I’d also love some feedback on a realistic marathon goal based on my current training. I started running consistently in February and have been averaging around 35 miles per week for the past couple of months. I’m training for a trail 50K in April mostly for fun, but Detroit will be my main goal race next year. What would be a reasonable time to aim for?

My current rotation:

  • Mount to Coast C1: Easy runs and easy long runs.
  • Adidas EVO SL EXO: Workouts and long runs with progressions.
  • Nike Vomero Premium: Recovery days or when I’m feeling especially beat up.
  • Adidas Adios Pro 4: Only one run in these so far, but I’m having a hard time imagining they’d be comfortable enough for me over 26.2 miles.
  • Mount to Coast H1: Trail and bad michigan weather days

Anyone here raced a full in the EVO SL or had their opinion of the Adios Pro 4 change after a few more runs?

Note: Had 0 issues or pain with the EVO SL for the half marathon at all, they were amazing

Question Looking for a tempo shoe. Do I size up or look elsewhere?

I have ASICS Cumulus 27 in size 11 and they are comfy but am looking for a speedy/tempo shoe. I got the asics magic speed five but found the inner arch uncomfortable.

I tried endorphins speed 5 in 11 but my big left toe was too close to the end. I tried 11.5 and again I wonder if the toe is too close to the end/side when I wear them mainly on the left foot.

They are reasonably comfortable but I’m unsure how they might feel after a long race.

Do I size up to a 12 in the endorphin or try a different tempo shoe?

Currently run around 20mins 5k, 42 mins 10k

Is the right call here 10.5 for all Vomero plus purchases moving forward?

Question How can I buy the Dynafish Xiaonian in Europe

Hey everyone!

I'm very interested in getting a pair of Dynafish Xiaonian shoes, but I'm finding it pretty difficult to get them in Europe for a reasonable price.

Most of the options I've found seem to cost €140 or more, which feels a bit steep. (like Aliexpress)

Has anyone in Europe managed to buy a pair for less than that? If so, where did you order them from? I'd also appreciate any tips on reliable Chinese websites or sellers that ship to Europe without excessive shipping costs or import fees.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Question Race/training shoe advice

I'm looking for some advice on what shoe to buy. I always have 2 running shoes to rotate between runs. Now, I had to retire one pair of shoes. What I'm looking for at the moment is a shoe that can handle fast interval trainings, but I can also use on race day. At the moment, I run in the Adidas Evo SL for my intervals and 'easy' runs.

The new shoe should be durable but also fast. Because I don't race that often on the street and more on track, I want to buy shoes comfortable for interval runs but also races, so I don't have to buy race shoes for a few races a year. I only race 5k and 10k on the street. I am a fore/midfoot striker. My 5k PR is 16:39, which I'm trying to break with the new pairs. The Nike zoom fly 6 caught my eye, but I don't know if it's fast enough. Maybe you have other ideas?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

Question Adidas EVO SL

Anyone wearing EVO SL? Is the middle of this shoe too narrow? I tried one, middle of it felt like my foot is sitting on the corner of the shoe, not sure if just that shoe’s midsole was weird or just how the shoe is

Question Sizing help for Saucony Endorphin Speed 5. Should I buy the same size as the Azura’s?

Hello there!

I currently have the Saucony Endorphin Azura. Love them! I use them for every run, short run, tempo, long run…. Etc
But I want to invest in another Saucony shoe for tempo work and I want to buy the Endorphin Speed 5.

Based on your experience, do I buy them the same size as the Azura or a 1/2 size bigger ?

Thank you in advance!

Question Saucony azura vs shift 3

Hi all. The quest to find something like the saucony shift 3 continues. I’ve read various posts across the web that the azura has a similar vibe to the shift three, with it being a neutral stable shoe. Does anyone have any experience with the azura ?

I’ve tried the hurricane 25s however I feel they’re too stability focused for me as I feel it’s pushing my foot to the outer edge too much.

Thanks

Daily Trainer Question Are My Wear Patterns Signs of Over Pronation?

Thumbnail

Im about 150miles into each shoe and have been battling various IT Band, front knee, and lower calf pains. Nothing too bad but each one pops up every few weeks. While this could be due to my mileage increasing, I want to be sure my shoes aren’t creating the problem! I know for a fact I pronate. These are both 361 Kairos 3’s, which are support shoes. I had really bad pain in my Ghost 17’s before switching to these, and the pain has been much better but still keeps popping up. I’ve got a half in 5 weeks and I want to make sure I don’t injury myself before then! Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

Race Shoe Question Race Day Questions!

Hi All,

I used to run in Nike Zoom fly 4’s - but had to stop due to severe pain on the sides of my shin. I got professional suggestions after an analysis, now I run in ASICS GT2000-15, great for my pronation and I have hade no issues since changing to those!

I am due to run a HM in Madrid in 2027, and I’m wondering if race day shoes are necessary or if my GT2000’s will suffice, and also which ones to look for? I like the look of some of the Saucony Models.

Thanks in advance for your help!🤩

Question Megablast losing bounce?

Hello fellow geeks

After being a strong advocate for the Megablast, I was caught with a low guard today.

After my 8km tempo run, I was feeling the shoe a bit blocky and stiff. They have 420km (260mi) on them at this point, bought at launch.

Ok, some days we just dont feel great on a shoe. But when I returned home, I tried a fresh pair that is sitting on a box (yes I liked it that much) and it feels MUCH more springy and bouncy, softer.

The outsole and upper and still in great shape of course, the shoe does not feel bad by any means, but I felt that its good days are behind it. From what I see by other users, I expected it to cross the 600 mark still feeling pretty good, but does not seem the case.

Anyone has felt this? Of course they are still very competent and I will keep using it, but feels the magic is gone.

Question What would be a Saucony Kinvara with a wider toe box?

My criteria:

  • low drop (4mm or less)
  • low stack, need to feel the road, even for a marathon the Kinvara is enough cushion
  • no bounce (maybe a corollary of low stack), need to feel the road
  • gusseted tongue, I have a high arch and need the tongue to stay in place
  • wider toe box, as my little toes always seem to pierce through the edge of my Kinvaras after a couple hundred miles

I tried the Saucony Convergence for a more minimal Kinvara, but the toe box is just as bad, and durability even worse.

I don't care about a shoe being fancy or helping me shave 2 min off my marathon time. My race shoes are the same as my training shoes.

I tried the Altra Varnish Carbon 2, but too much stack and bounce. Little road feel. The toe box looked more "toe shaped" though.

Typing this as I'm sowing back the holes in my Kinvaras ahead of the NYC Marathon in 10 days.

Question my feet are too wide for running shoes. desperately need your help.

Ive always had wide feet ever since i was a child shoes would hurt me especially in the mid foot and maybe the heel i guess?

thats why when i decided to start running i bought new balance 1080 in the wide version thinking it would solve my problem. i went for a group run today and they hurt me badly, i could barely stand on my feet afterwards cause of the discomfort.

what the hell do i do? they were so expensive and not sure if i can return them.

is there any shoe that genuinely has a midfoot and back of the foot wide enough so that i can run in it? how do i find it and make sure it actually works?

please id be so grateful for help id really like to get into running :(

Comparing Shoes Question Shoe Rotation Question

Hi! I’ve been running exclusively in New Balance 880s for all my runs (easy days, long runs, speed work, everything) and want to build out a proper rotation. Training for an Ironman 70.3 ( hope to hold around a 7 min/mile pace the half marathon so I do a mix of easy Zone 2 runs, tempo, brick runs off the bike, and long runs.

Just bought the Brooks Hyperion Max for race day but wondering if I should return and get something actually carbon plated. And looking for something faster and more responsive for speed work and tempo days that complements the 880.

Question Wide gym/running shoes for bunions—what fits these measurements?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Looking for gym and running shoes (separate pairs are fine) that also look good casually. Prefer zero drop, minimal cushioning, flexible mesh, and bunion/toe room. Gym pair needs lateral stability. I’ve worn retro New Balances for a decade but need more width now.

Approximate measurements in cm:
Right tracing: 28.7 length, 10.8 ball width, 10.9 overall width.
Left tracing: 29.0 length, 10.3 ball width, 10.6 overall width.
Right wall method: 28.8 length, 10.6–10.8 width.
Left wall method: 28.6 length, 10.5 width.

Considering Lems, Wildling, Splay, Be Lenka, Vivo, Xero, Bohempia, and Softstar. Which models/sizes would fit? Many sites don’t list widths.

Attaching measurement photos and my current WHITINs. The mesh feels incredibly comfortable with no bunion pressure, but my feet overhang the removable insoles—is that a fit concern? Looking to add more options in the rotation.

Comparing Shoes Question Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 vs Elite 2/3

Post image
99 Upvotes

I recently ran a long race in my Nike Alphaflys and ended up with a bloody toe. I’m training for a marathon and thought I should look for a different shoe to run in. I currently have the Saucony Triumph 23 which I use for long/easy runs and the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 for tempo/speedwork. I’m considering either the Pro 5, Elite 2, or Elite 3 but I’m unsure of what I should get. I’m not super fast- My best 5k was a 7:13 pace and I recently ran an 8 mile race at a 7:43 pace. I’d probably estimate my marathon pace to be somewhere under 4 hours. I’d like to eventually qualify for Boston (3:25 for women) But I’ve heard that some shoes aren’t worth getting if you’re not a fast runner.

I’m looking for a shoe that will be fast yet comfortable to replace my Nikes. Has anyone tried these out that could offer opinions or suggestions for a marathon shoe
