How often do New Orleans residents go to the beach / the ocean?

I know New Orleans isn’t directly on the beach but it’s very close. Do New Orleans residents go to the beach/ocean often or do they do more things in the Bay Area / Lake Pontchartrain? I’ve been curious about this as I know the bayou is a big part of life for some.

Costumes for Krewe of Boo?

We will be in New Orleans this weekend for Krewe of Boo and we were planning on dressing up and wearing costumes, but then I’ve seen videos online from past years and it doesn’t look like onlookers are wearing costumes. Halloween is my favorite and I have multiple costumes packed in my bag ready to go, but I don’t want to be alone in this if everyone else is wearing street clothes.

Should we wear costumes to watch the parade and participate in festivities afterwards?

Best Thrift Stores for Second Hand Gowns?

I’m in the market for a Mardi Gras Ball gown but I’m cheap, and I’ll most likely just wear it once to the ball. Which secondhand stores in New Orleans or surrounding areas would I have a better chance of finding used ball gowns?

How to pronounce Melpomene streeet

Hey folks. Pls help settle something for me. Is it Mel-PAA-muh-nee or mel-**PAWM-**nee?

If anyone would be willing to add a video of you pronouncing the word, that would be SO helpful

What’s the difference between the start time and when the “parade rolls?”

Sorry for the ignorance here. Have been to several parades and I haven’t paid attention to this before. Just looking to plan out her evening for the parade this weekend and I noticed there are different times listed. We plan to be near Decatur in Canal. Was thinking we would plan to arrive roughly 730 or 8 PM. But wondering if anybody can explain to me the difference between the start time of the parade and when the parade rolls

Best Friend will be In New Orleans for Her BDay and I want to surprise her with an Experience/Dining Experience

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an Alt Girly and her Husband for a great Birthday Dinner or Experience? I love this woman to death and she is deserving of something great but I would rather know from the mouths of people than a google search. I have only been in New Orleans for 2 hours to grab coffee on the way to Texas so I am no use.

Thank you!

Food New Orleans, March 2027

I’m working on a list of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops to try in New Orleans and would love some recommendations on which ones to prioritize! We’ll be there for five days, staying near the French Quarter. Some things we’re planning to do include taking a steamboat cruise, exploring Magazine Street, visiting the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden and the New Orleans Museum of Art, and doing a few guided tours.
Are there any specific tours you’d recommend? I’m also open to any other suggestions for must see spots, great food and drinks, or unique experiences we shouldn’t miss! Also cool jazz spots.
I’ve been to New Orleans once before, but this will be my husband’s first visit. We’ll be celebrating our first wedding anniversary, so I’d love to make the trip extra special! Any suggestions or tips, would be great! Thank you in advance! Super excited to visit!!

New Orleans Discord Community — Almost 500 Members! ⚜️

Hey y’all! A little while back I started a New Orleans Discord just to give local people a place to meet, make friends, and find people with similar interests.

Somehow we’re now at 479 members and closing in on 500, which is honestly crazy to see.

We’ve got people into:

🎮 Gaming
🎲 D&D / TTRPGs
🍜 Food & restaurants
🎵 Music
📺 Anime
📚 Books & writing
📸 Photography
🃏 Pokémon, Lorcana, Gundam & other TCGs
🍻 IRL hangouts & local events
💬 And plenty of general bullshit/chatting

We also have a community calendar where people can post and find things happening around New Orleans.

It’s 18+, pretty laid-back, and the whole point is just making it easier to meet people around the city — whether you’re new to NOLA, trying to make more friends, or just want some people to hang/game/go out with.

We’re about to hit 500 members, so if that sounds like your kind of thing, come hang out with us. ⚜️

Transportation Recommendations

My wife and I are attending a concert at the UNO LFA. We are staying in the FQ. I know getting to the concert will be easy, but I have had trouble getting a ride from UNO back to the FQ in the past at the end of the concert. Are there any dependable options to get from the lake front back to the FQ at 11:00pm on a Tuesday night? Thanks in advance.

Lodging How to find roommates?

Now that half of the population doesn't have fb, and Craigslist is in heaven, how do people nowadays find roommates? Like, other than word of mouth.

Looking for music teachers to do one off class to a beginner fiddler and advanced pianist in NOLA style

Fiddler’s looking for someone who can do a bit of the stuff in the fashion of Canray Fontenot and the pianist is a big fan of Dr.John.

Coming for a bachelor party looking for some unique activities

Wouldn’t mind a Haitian percussion class as well.

I didn't read the FAQ Thanksgiving Brunch/Lunch/ Dinner dining options?

I will have a party of 3 adults in your beautiful city for Thanksgiving Day and I’ve been appointed steward of picking a restaurant (or 2) for the day.

Our hotel is on Canal Street but we are willing to Uber or travel to worthwhile spots open on that day.

Our party includes a 48F, 75F, 75M. Wine with dinner is nice but this group isn’t throwing down, just saying. We appreciate the food.

I would love recommendations for traditional dinner or close to traditional with local flavor is great. Don’t need the cheapest but not looking for super high end either.
Give me lots of options. Local traditional favorites open on Turkey Day. Nice dining or hotels are ok.

Thanks from Atlanta ya’ll! Looking forward to it!

cheap, fast, quality soft gel manicure

What the title says. Where can I find it? I hate getting my nails done and want to be in and out the door as quickly as possible, but with a manicure that will last me 3-4 weeks. I've tried a bunch of popular places but they're either more than I want to pay (north of $50) or subpar quality. Where are we going that is fast, inexpensive, and lasts? Don't need anything fancy, design, extensions, anything- just 2 coats of gel and I'm out of there.

I didn't read the FAQ What else to doooo

My partner and I have been here since Saturday and will be here til Saturday.

We’ve already done a tour with Hottest Hell, visited the FQ daily, walked the River, did a swamp tour, gotten LOTS of amazing food, did the Museum of Illusions, heard some live music, and are planning to go on the Natchez tonight. What else can we do?

Open to Halloween themed things or just regular must-do things!

Best 18+ (or just not strict) music venues for Halloween?

I will be in the city with a mixed friend group of 19-22 year olds, and I’m trying to figure out the best place to go that will be fun for everyone. We’ve done Frenchmen before during a regular weekend but were only able to finagle the whole group into a couple of places due to not everyone being 21 yet, so we spent a decent chunk of time just watching from the windows or walking around to groups that were playing on the street.

In yalls experience, how strict do they card during busy holidays like Halloween? Is wandering Frenchmen/french quarter still our best bet for Halloween for a mixed age group?
