Community Feedback 2026 Metapost — Moderation Questions, Subreddit Suggestions, and Feedback
What this Megathread is
Welcome to the [r/AskIsrael](r/AskIsrael) Metapost! This thread is dedicated to discussing the subreddit itself. Whether you have questions about moderation, feedback on our rules or policies, concerns about the community, or ideas for improving AskIsrael, this is the place to share them.
We want the community to have a clear and accessible way to communicate directly with the moderation team. We also want members to have a voice in how the subreddit is run.
What you can discuss here
You’re welcome to use this thread to:
• Ask questions about moderation decisions, rules, or subreddit policies
• Suggest new features, post flairs, or rule changes
• Share feedback about the direction or culture of the subreddit
• Raise concerns about moderation or community issues
• Suggest ways to make AskIsrael more welcoming, useful, and engaging
• Discuss other meta topics related to the subreddit
Why we are introducing this
We want to create an easier and more direct line of communication between the community and the moderation team. A public metathread gives everyone a more accessible and informal way to talk directly with us, raise concerns, suggest changes, and discuss how the subreddit is run.
Clarifying the purpose of our community
We also want to take this opportunity to clarify exactly what AskIsrael is, and what it is not.
At its core, our community is a place to ask good-faith questions about Israel. The purpose of the subreddit is to give people from around the world a place to ask genuine questions and hear directly from Israelis and others who can provide pro-Israel perspectives.
We are not an Israel–Palestine debate subreddit. There are other communities specifically dedicated to debating the conflict. Likewise, AskIsrael is not a place to simply tell Israelis your opinions about Israel or use a question as a vehicle for making a political statement.
This does not mean controversial, contentious, or difficult questions are unwelcome, they absolutely are. We simply ask that posts be genuine questions asked in good faith, with an openness to hearing the answers.

Israeli Politics What was the PR team thinking when they posted that AI music video?
That new AI generated 'music video' from the Israeli Government. That was actually awful to look at. What on earth were they thinking?

Serious Answers Only What Is the Most Accurate Definition of Zionism?
This is the definition of Zionism I have always understood and used:
Zionism is simply the idea that Jews have the right to self-determination, or the idea that Israel should (continue to) exist.
I recognize that Zionism is a remarkably broad political ideology encompassing a wide range of political perspectives and beliefs. However, critics of Zionism often narrow its definition to a hyper-specific, and inaccurate or unrecognizable, set of political positions.
I want to refute these mischaracterizations with the most accurate definition of Zionism, supported by reputable historical and academic sources. What do you consider the most accurate definition of Zionism, and what reputable sources would you recommend to support it?

Visiting Follow up Question about bringing prescribed controlled substances
I have been told by several people that to bring prescribed controlled substances, for Ambien, Klonopin and Carisoprodol, to israel for a 10 day tour, all I need is to bring them in their original pharmacy bottles. A few people have said to get a doctor’s note and ChatGBT even recommends getting a certificate from a Department of Health. What’s your best advice? I have been taking these drugs for many, many years and could not go 10 days without them.
Thanks for your help.

Israeli Politics What is an actual rational plan to deal with the hilltop youths and the West Bank settlers?
I don’t think this problem is going away and every day seemingly brings another altercation with foreign authorities or US journalists. The consensus I’ve seen from Israelis seems to be that the settlers are fanatical at best, terrorists at worst. What’s the solution here?
This is inspired in part by this NYT opinion piece:
Specifically this portion:
Nor would change be easy. Reversing a trajectory five decades in the making with a public that has moved to the right and a security establishment increasingly enmeshed with the settlement project is a heavy lift. Just curbing settler violence, which is not a politically difficult issue, would take more than periodic arrests of bad apples. It would require pulling settler-heavy reserve battalions from West Bank duty and cutting off the funding and land that sustain illegal outposts. It requires an Israeli government willing to treat settler violence as a governance failure rather than a public relations problem.

History Jews' views on the Chinese and Communist China
I live in New Zealand. The Chinese friends around me always express their hatred for Israel. But I don't understand all this. Because I don't think Jews show much hostility to Chinese people. This favourability even reached 66% in 2019. This is a very high proportion. Spain's favourability to the Chinese is only 38%. But since October 7th. There are many anti-Jewish remarks on the Internet in China that are manipulated by people on a large scale. These are often extreme. What do you think of Chinese people? Are there any Chinese in Israel? How are they integrating? Do you think the Chinese and communist China are separated?

Serious Answers Only Events in Croatia and broader view on antisemitism
Yesterday, football hooligans in Croatia chanted slogans, which are too horrifying to write.
I (not Jewish, I'm Slav from Balkan) read this forum often, so I know about 70% of people here do not agree with my opinions on current situation in Israel. My sincere question is: do you see a difference between chants made by Croatian hooligans and someone with keffiyeh in, IDK, Amsterdam, chanting Free Palestine?

Ask the sub Master's Thesis
Hi! I am writing my Master's thesis on Israeli-public facing civil society organisations (CSOs) with a focus on how CSOs with different theories of change understand their role in conflict transformation. Inspired by Bar-Tal's theory of socio-psychological barriers to peace, I'm doing a two-step analysis with first analysing the way selected CSOs present their goals, limitations etc online, and then interviewing a select few from the list.
I was wondering whether there was an Israeli person here (living there or having moved abroad doesn't matter!) that could verify my interpretations, given my outsider position to the research topic (I'm Polish!)? :)

Ask the sub Why the seeming lack of "gender wars" in Israel
After living in Israel for some time, I noticed something rather strange and a bit refreshing. Unlike in the US, South Korea or other "western/eastern" countries (even South Africa to some degree), there seems to be comparatively very little "male-female conflict discourse" in Israel, like say over women being paid less/sexually harassed or men being excluded from higher education/the dating market.
Could this be because Israelis have many other issues to deal with and/or do Israeli men and women generally get along better?

Serious Answers Only What Israeli and Palestinian NGOs Are Working to Foster Peace but Are Not Members of the Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP)?
I’ve been working on compiling a comprehensive list of organizations dedicated to building peace and fostering cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians. So far, I’ve found the Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP) to be an excellent starting point, particularly because of its extensive network of peacebuilding organizations.
I’m wondering if there are any other umbrella organizations or networks with similar goals that I should look into. I’m also interested in independent NGOs and grassroots initiatives that aren’t affiliated with larger networks and may have been overlooked.
If anyone knows of additional organizations or useful resources, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!

Ask the sub Movie Theater Decorum?
I made aliyah from the US 10 months ago. Growing up I used to enjoy going to movies in the US but I'd stopped going in recent years because the decorum of people in movie theaters has gotten so bad: Talking throughout the movie, cell phone screens illuminating the theater, ringer and notification noises going off repeatedly, people yelling at the screen, general rudeness, etc. Couple the consistently worsening theater experience with the steadily increasing quality of home theater tech and it just became an easy decision not to go see movies in theater. The only exception I'd make for this area movies where I could assume that people in the theater would behave (art house films, documentaries and the like) and even then I'd get burned periodically.
So what can I expect should I want to catch a movie in an Israeli theater?

Casual Why did the moroccan jews move to israel
Did they never feel as if Morocco was their actual home? Moroccan Jews have been living in Morocco for 3000 years, long before the Islamic conquest. Even this Jewish man in the video sounds 100% Moroccan Berber, so they deffo assimilated into the culture. I just wish Moroccan Jews could come back and live in Morocco. We also saw them as Moroccan, just with a different faith. Because of the Zionist movement, the judeo-Berber language is endangered, with only around 200 Jews still speaking it, as Israel encourages assimilation into Israeli culture. I really wish they saw Morocco as their home and Judaism as just their faith. I wish they never felt the need to create their own Jewish state. There’s soo much Jewish history in Morocco, so it’s a shame there are barely any Jews left there. It honestly feels like Moroccan Jews chose Israel over Morocco.

Israeli Politics what made October 7 happen?
I want to know something once and for all here, can you explain to me in your own words what made October 7 happen?
It seems to me that you never learned the true lesson here, the lesson isn't about "bibi" or "right wing".
The lesson isn't specifically this tired line
"giving Hamas Qatar money was a mistake".
even if you believe that Hamas was allowed to stay in power to weaken the PA- it's still not the real issue because that decision is also part of the same conception-
The conception that made that decision seem rational in the first place, but i have never seen a leftist actually what it is.
Can you explain what the problem/conception was without "bibi", without "right wing"?
Because it doesn't seem that the israeli left has truly abandoned that conception...
