Irish Culture What do you consider to be tight/stingy behaviour?
For example, not buying someone a drink back. Not putting money in a wedding card after being invited.
I know some old people too tight to buy food and would rather starve.
Any personal examples would also be interesting

Adulting Do I have crazy neighbour 🤣🤣 ??
My neighbour put up a huge sign and poster on the wall next to his door saying "Unless parcel is handled to me directly, right in to my hand I am marking it as not delivered and doing a chargeback
And I will know if you have been here I have multiple cameras around the property"
Do you think that is little bit crazy, or did he just lost it with Amazon and An Post just throwing parcels like they are frizbee 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Music what's the deal with Bands / Musicians skipping Ireland on European tours?
Genuine question, why do so many artists announce European tours and manage to skip Ireland entirely?
Is Ireland just more expensive to plan a concert for in comparison to other countries or are we not worth the detour.
I know some artists do come here, obviously, but it feels like we're regularly left out while the rest of Europe gets the tour.

Irish Culture Do you feel pride in being an Irish person?
Absolutely no judgement as to any other factors here. The only condition is the question.
I was into the trad/folk scene way back in a different century. It was a huge part of the social scene in my part of rural Ireland. We were an excepting bunch of folk and sessions could be 20 singers and musicians. Didn't matter what instrument you turned up with. We were just about music, the craic and general conversations.
It's not a thing here anymore and this is a place that people caught musical abilities like the common cold.
I'm on a rare evening that I took a stroll and ended up in one of the locals in the village. I've got Spotify playing a playlist of memories of a social scene that has gone the way of all the other things that brought us joy.
Our world is becoming sterile and void of joy. I'm an old GenX bloke that is genuinely sorry for you young beautiful people. They have stripped the life and soul of the social scene that I took for granted in my 20's and 30's.

Serious Replies Only Shopping addiction advice?
Hi! I hope everyone has a great start to the week :) This is a very sensitive topic for me and I’m very ashamed to admit this but I guess most people have their own addiction, and mine is unfortunately spending money on clothes. I’ve been struggling with my mental health on and off since my teenage years (I just turned 25 yesterday), and it’s been really bad over the past year. I’m medicated now and have been seeing a therapist as well. My only coping mechanism that works is spending money on clothes I don’t need. I have absolutely no self control when it comes to shopping and this has been going on for years and years. I seriously don’t know how to stop to the point where I’m left with zero savings. I’ve tried other coping mechanisms but nothing gives me the same immediate dopamine boost that shopping does even though the feeling only lasts a few days or two weeks if I’m lucky. I really want to change because I just turned 25, and I don’t want to be more of a loser than I already am. No one knows that my addiction has gotten this bad and I’m honestly so ashamed to ask for help with this. Has anyone else struggled with this? I would really appreciate hearing from people who have been through the same thing because I seriously don’t know how to get out of this cycle :’(

Random What can you do with agricultural land?
Im planning on buying a patch of cheap land sometime in the next year. I pretty much just want it for recreation. Obviously I cant just build a cabin on it but what else are you limited on?
Can you just plant any trees you want?
Or do you need permission after a certain amount or type
Ideally I'd pick up something with plenty of trees already but I'd want to plant plenty of native trees and some fast growers round the boundary for privacy.
Can you just dig out a big pond?
I know you're allowed camp on your own land as long as you don't live there but are there any ways to put in an outhouse even if its just a compost job?
One way round is getting some animals but realistically I'd only be there a weekend or two a month so thats a no go
Basically want my own private nature reserve to mess around in that I'll build a few things in. Camping shack, picnic area and random other ideas.
Probably gonna go for Westmeath or Cavan due to the amount of lakes, scenery and land thats not suitable for building houses on
Anyone do something similar?

Am I The Gobshite? New Build, Million Problems, What can I do?
Bought a newbuild, it's a duplex with steel joists, 22mm OSB on the lower floor and 18mm OSB on the upper floor. The OSB is super squeaky everywhere and unlevel/not flat with lots of dips. Lots of defects in the house too, lights witches not configured right, toilet flush buttons not working, the OSB in the sitting room wasn't nailed down right so we need to pull up all my laminate in there to fix it. I even have a weird issue in a bedroom where if I bounce anywhere in this room specifically the door will rattle in it's frame. Some of the rooms dip by almost 6mm suddenly half way with a really steep incline between the spots.
I'm planning to email the builders today even though the foreman knows some of these issues. (Though he seems to be fobbing me off) Am I being a Karen for chasing up on all these problems? What can I do? My snagger caught none of this, spent too much time focusing on the paint job not being great rather than super obvious flaws. I'm feeling fairly helpless and worried I'm stuck in a weird wobbly house for the next 5+ years till I can get out.
I have a feeling I've been screwed over.

Irish Culture Could I send flowers on anniversary of someone's death, a few years after their death?
I never got a chance to send flowers the year it happened, it was all very sudden, and it's been on my mind. It's been a few years now. Would this be a nice gesture or just an annoyance to the family?

Irish Culture Podcasts for Learning Irish ?
Hi all I’m trying to learn Irish for the first time. I was exempt from Irish primary school so never learned the language. Over the past few years the want to be able to speak a few words has grown. So a month ago I enrolled in a beginners course for conversational Irish. I’m really enjoying it, what I think would help me would be hearing the language spoken more. I tried listening to Raidió na Gaeltachta but the Irish spoken is so fast and my Irish isn’t good enough yet. I really enjoy the format of “How to Gael” I’m just not their target audience and I find myself not paying attention.
Can anyone recommend some other media sources for complete beginners like myself.

Relationships Installed Tinder and deleted it immediately. How to date in Ireland off them?
It gave me the ick just browsing through. It’s the same people and how dating apps made people disposable is making me less hopeful about finding love.
I know it’s useful for some. And I’ve met my ex from Bumble and my last situationship on Hinge. But it is shite.

Random What are you doing to prepare for Halloween this year?
I feel like Halloween always comes around quicker than you expect. I haven’t really done much preparation yet, apart from thinking about what to do on the night. Might get a few bits in, watch some horror films and see if there’s anything happening locally. It’s always nice when there’s a bit of a Halloween atmosphere around, especially with the decorations and everything.
What are ye planning for Halloween this year, or are ye leaving it until the last minute like me?

Serious Replies Only How do I find the job for me?
So for some context I’m a 21 year old woman, i’ve been working in the same role, same place as a waitress since I was 16. It’s an easy enough job, I get four to five shifts a week. Hours are terrible, 12-12 shifts but the money is good. Management is shit.
I’ve grown in the place as far as experience goes. I believe that I’m just so used to it that replacing it just doesn’t seem right.
I struggled severely in secondary school, barely passed my leaving cert by a few points and my attendance was atrocious. I was out more days than I was in. Most days I would skip, other days my parents would drive me in so they knew I was in, just to leave the minute I seen their car pull away.
I then got diagnosed with adhd and autism in ty, which made a lot of sense but couldn’t afford meds so it did fuck all. I got no support from anyone in school, so I was ultimately done with school.
I got into a plc in bcfe after 6th year which I loved at first since it was all hands on art, sculptures and costumes, stuff I enjoyed doing. I then stopped going to my other three modules and then I stopped going to college altogether.
I was then in NLN in balleyfermot. I think I attended two full days (like actually staying in class and not leaving early) before I stopped going in as well, again.
Education was never for me, I could never stick at something me never found the one thing that made me interested. I’d loose focus and then I’d be gone.
The only class I did like was art in secondary bc I just talked and talked for the full hour.
Bcfe was fine for that one module but I also didn’t receive any support when I started not showing up.
My mam recently contacted this company that employs neurodivergent people but I haven’t heard anything back from them. Anyone know any advice or anything honestly bc i can’t work this job anymore.

Adulting Going abroad and getting approval from the parents?
I know people will probably tell me to grow a pair and just get on with it, and I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. I just wanted to throw this out there and see what people think.
I’m a lad in my mid-20s, an only child, and still living at home. I’m at the stage now where I feel I need to get out and see some of the world. I’ve been considering Canada, in particular. I’ve put off travelling over the last few years, but I feel that if I don’t go next year, I might never do it.
The issue is that I don’t think my parents would be too happy about me going, particularly my father.
He’s been pushing me to do a master’s in teaching for a while now and has brought it up on several occasions, to the point where I eventually had to ask him to stop. He was a teacher himself, so I think it’s something he’d really like me to do.
The thing is, I’m not against doing it. In fact, I’ll probably do it at some point, but I’d like to travel first before committing to two years of study.
Although I am grateful to be living at home it can be difficult at times, particularly in relation to my mother. That’s why I feel like I need to live away from home for a while.
I’m a little over two years out of college now and have been working since graduating. I’ve managed to save around €29k, and wherever I end up, I’d be looking to get a job straight away. It’s not as if I’m planning to go over and sit around doing nothing.
The problem is that, on previous occasions when I’ve mentioned things I’d like to do, I’ve immediately sensed that they’re unhappy about it. I start getting short answers or the silent treatment, and eventually I have to ask what the problem is. From there, it either turns into an argument or I end up getting a lecture. Which is not great for anxiety.
I know I’m in my mid-20s and that ultimately it’s my decision to make. I suppose I’m just finding it difficult to deal with the potential reaction from my parents, particularly when I know they might not agree with what I want to do.
I do love my parents and appreciate everything they do for me but I need to be able to experience the world also.
Anyone out there been in a similar situation? How did you deal with it?
Thanks

Random IPL skincare treatment?
Has anybody ever had IPL done for constant facial redness/rosacea? My face especially my cheeks are just constantly red and it makes me kinda self conscious at times and I’ve been looking into IPL as a treatment. Wondering if anyone has had it and if it helped?
