New Build Help Seeking advice 33 years old.

We just moved into our new apartment and a lot of my older equipment will be going to my wife. She will be receiving the two Asus monitors and my older tower PC for now until I can afford to upgrade her setup as well. She will also be taking the keyboard and mouse as well.

Her desk is 60x30 on the right side and my desk is 70x30 on the left side. They are both Uplift standing desks.

I’ll be honest, I play video games but I am by no means a competitive gamer. I mainly only play Old School RuneScape and sometimes I may play some other games on steam but I don’t play really competitive games. I usually use my desk for productivity like the stock market, Discord, watching sports games, studying and playing games like WOW and OSRS.

The reason I bring this up is that I realistically don’t know how much I should spend on my PC without overpaying and going crazy.

My last PC build was 1k and it honestly worked out great and ran almost everything with no issues. For this build I don’t know how much I should spend on my PC and how I want to set up my monitors and how many. I figured I would do a three-monitor setup with one 31-37 inch monitor centered with a 24-27 inch one above that one and then a 24 inch monitor to the right or left vertically placed. My only concerns are putting that one monitor above the other. It looks pathetically pleasing but I’m not sure how that would work for my neck constantly looking up. I mainly want to use it for watching sports and videos honestly.

I know Asus is a great brand and I’ve been looking at MSI but I really don’t know what to buy and what to go with. I know GPU matters. I also need to get a new mouse and keyboard but I can’t choose between a wired or wireless one. I’m concerned about connectivity issues for wireless but at the same time I love how it looks aesthetically.

Any advice would be great.

Other Looking for a NASA-punk / retro-style USB hub recommendation (6-7+ ports)

Hi everyone! I’ve been hunting for a retro-style USB hub to match my setup, but I'm struggling to find the perfect one. So far, I’ve looked at the ORICO A3H7, ORICO M3U7, and the EleksMaker NK MK5 Voice OLED, but none of them quite hit the mark.

Here is what I need:

  • At least 6–7 USB ports in total
  • Ideally 3–4 ports should be USB 3.0 or higher
  • Fast-charging capability would be a huge plus

The Aesthetic:

I’m looking for something that matches the NASA-punk / retro vibe of my current gear. Here is my 8BitDo retro keyboard

and my Lofree Hypace mouse

I’d love to find a hub that shares a similar design language with things like the Syitren N200 Mini speaker (matte white) or the Meizu PANDAER 2-in-1 charger (yellow), vintage beige, mechanical switches, or industrial retro look.
Does anyone know of any hubs that fit this specific vibe? Thanks in advance!

New Build Help Corsair Edge Mounting Ideas

Hi everyone! I have a Corsair XENEON EDGE that I’d like to mount vertically beside my monitor, as shown in the first image.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should buy or how I could mount it? I’d prefer not to drill any holes, and I don’t have enough space for a desk clamp either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Desks I need help choosing an affordable gaming desk.

I want to buy a new desk for esports. The budget is under £200. Would rather spend less if possible, without losing quality. It needs to be:

No wobble.

height adjustable

Can Support a monitor arm without problem, as well as a mic arm.

160cm x 70 - 80.

Would be nice if the desk was aesthetically pleasing.

Here are a few I’ve been thinking about getting, but have no clue how good they are, and I want to make the right choice so I don’t waste money:

UTESPELARE, IKEA

ergonomist Electric Standing Desk

Other Monitor arm for a vertical monitor setup

Never used monitor arms before, I want to have a third monitor above my main, but I'm not sure the kind of monitor arm I should get. Do I get 2 single arms? Dual arm?

Monitors Looking for a monitor arm that faces straight down towards the floor for a bed setup

I can either mount it on my desk (right next to bed) or my bed frame. Can't drill into my wall unfortunately since I'm renting but I'd really like to get a monitor I can use from my bed while looking straight up at the ceiling to avoid neck pains.

Trying to avoid getting those ipad mounts cuz it simply wont be as good as playing from my pc directly

Desks Dual Monitor Arm on IKEA LINNMON

I have seen a couple of posts regarding issues with the honeycomb filling that the IKEA LINNMON table top has and mounting a dual monitor arm, regarding the pressure on one spot. Several posts have mentioned placing planks / metal sheets to spread the weight of the mount and monitors.

I wondered if something like this would work?

Hardware Desk Thingy

I just posted on the main battlestations subreddit, which after discovering this, i assume that one will be swifty removed, doh!

i appreciate this post isn't a typical full 'battlestation' setup, BUT this is the right community to get some feedback on a product I'm developing.

I found myself a few months ago looking for a simple volume dial for my PC and Mac. I bought one from amazon that did the standard 12 step rotation and click, it was fine but really poor quality. I looked at more premium options, but they mostly seem to be more focussed on features and niches like music production and very detailed macros with software you have to download. I did buy one called Cololight, but it was super complicated and still felt cheap honestly, it just wasn't what i I personally was looking for.

I have a prototype for something that works, for me at least. I wanted to get the smooth feel of an 80's quality hi-fi knob working with modern hardware, like a programmable microcontroller, displays, LEDs, advanced sensors etc. I'm still at the stage where the working model (simple plug 'n' play with PC, Mac, iOS and Android) is a mess of wires, but I'm confident after a few revisions I can turn this into a good looking/fully working product.

Product features: Intuitive taps for basic media controls, super smooth volume rotation, scroll mode, human presence detection for auto sleep and desk-time vs break time, temperature and humidity sensor to help you work in the best environment. (I'm open to ideas here...)

If this were to become more than just a desktop prototype for me (a small batch of a few hundred units to justify some of the investment costs), what features would you want from a product like this? Have I missed anything obvious or overlooked anything? Would this look good on your desk? I'm just trying to get a feeling of how i could improve this overall (although, like any product, i can't add all features for everyone).

A small bit about me: I'm from London, UK. I've worked as a car designer over the past 15 years for Land Rover, Dyson and currently at McLaren. I understand how things can be manufactured at prototype and at scale and have some knowledge with microcontrollers/prototyping to help bring my good/bad ideas to life.

I would LOVE feedback from anyone and everyone, especially those who would actually buy something like this.

Thanks!

Space Cadet.
