Discussion Aquascaping/Fishkeeping Creators and AI

• Upvotes

okay yeah basically watched a video from a well known creator that heavily featured AI editing, music, merch & thumbnail and just. whiplash. how can you claim to be a champion of the creative process of aquascaping but completely abandon form or aesthetic across every aspect of the presentation of your work? why do all that labor just to taint it with laziness in post? im just baffled at the hasty adoption of AI by youtubers and bloggers and everybody. its a total slopfest out here and it happened practically overnight. even the ones with huge budgets or production value are clearly using AI to write scripts and hasten timelines. its sad! and antithetical to the very concept (and to wild conservation in any capacity given the environmental impacts)

idk im nobody's parent but what happened to taking pride in your tastes and having shame when lessen your work for the sake of profit or digestibility?

happily taking suggestions to follow any writers or youtubers or whatever content you digest that stick to their guns and put effort into their craft. i care so much more about that than the "product." i want to experience passion and hear someone be excited and see it in the way they present their work. i yearn for authentic enjoyment of the hobby (and i live in buttfuck nowhere so its not like theres a local club for this stuff i can just roll up to or i would).

Its risky business but I love the tall rock scapes! The big rock is easily 60lbs. Love the fish interactions as they work the wall.

I don’t share here very often, but thought you might enjoy a few of my recent builds. I love experimenting with different stone, wood, and plants to see how much personality I can give each aquarium.

Which one would you want in your home? Happy to answer questions about the materials, plants, or how I put them together!

Question Substrate

Hi!

I’m new to aquascaping and I’ve been looking into adding a nano tank in my room for some tetras and snails. I’m hesitant on what to use for the substrate (I have Stratum and sand). I was planning on capping the Stratum to start, but is it good for plants/fish/snails? I also want my tank to last long term, any tips or rookie mistakes I can watch out for?

Seeking Suggestions Any suggestions for plants?

Hi gang - first post here. Was gifted a betta which started me on this path half a year ago.

Just placed substrate and hardscape in and am running the tank in dark start (2nd week).

Would love to get any suggestions on plants (esp foreground and background, and mosses to put onto the wood). Not planning to do CO2.

Also I’m seeing a lot of fuzz on the wood and have read that it should go away naturally. Just wanted to check if that’s the case!

Pic of hardscape just before the dark start. Have scattered some pebbles in the foreground since!

Just about 3 weeks into the re scape. I've used a base layer of aquatic compost mixed with old substrate/akadama and lots of root feeders in this one as trimming stems was getting a little too much. The front is filling out quickly, but the back is still progressing slowly. I'm hoping that once the plants have their roots settled, theres an explosion of growth.

I'm running this at about 28°C for the betta, but I'm planning on moving him to a smaller tank due to his poor eyesight, so I can make sure he's eating well and wont have the stress of other fish around him. That'll leave me with the space in this setup for some German blue rams, a species that I've not kept but have wanted to for quite some time.

I've also replaced a red tiger lotus with a Nymphaea peru puerto maldonado, which I'm very excited to watch grow.

Just set this up because I am downsizing a tank…. I’m wondering what plants to use. I was thinking of doing a bunch of variegated anubias I have but I feel like I want something else but nothing I will constantly need to trim. Just guppies going in. And of course all the pest snails in life will find a way in too.

Image Ready for the dark start 60L (15g) Optiwhite Dennerle Tank

Post image

Last picture before the dark start.

Dennerle 60l tank in low-iron glass with matching cabinet.

Since the cabinet only has openings for hoses at the back, I decided to simply place the external filter next to it.

Otherwise, the hose would directly touch the cold outer wall and unnecessarily cool down the water.

In 2-3 weeks the light will come back on and I will start planting.

Planned stocking:

8-10 Nannostomus sp. Amaya

10-12 Corydoras pygmaeus

I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed, but some aquatic plants have already developed leaves that resemble their submerged form.

This shows 2 months of growth. Mini trim in the middle.

Just waiting for a good day to spend a few hours and clean it all up.

But I'm loving every bit of it.

And the plants will now support any future builds.

Just finished completely redoing my tank- had it going for 10 yrs but this is my first real attempt at an aquascape. Upgraded lighting as well cos some of my plants were sad looking, and added the taller ones in the back. I feel like I def need more plants for the background, not sure if I should wait to see how current ones do or move things around. It's def still an upgrade for me but I'd still be interested in any tips or even if you'd have done something different just in case I feel like tearing it up again in the future.
