Discussion PSA: Strength++ 2.0 is out

I know most of my users for Strength++ came from this sub, so it seems fitting to announce that after 2 years, it now received the biggest update yet.
So, what's new:
- Now it's 100% free - I had to go this route due to trader constraints in the EU
- Support for iOS 26 and Liquid Glass
- New Ul, everything has been rebuilt from the ground up, both in the iPhone and Watch App
- Possibility to rename your exercises for a recorded workout. Remember what you did last time!
- Apple Watch Ultra Action Button Support
- On device Al workout analysis using Apple Intelligence
- Many bug fixes and improvements
So yeah, it's kinda nice, if anyone needs a strength training app without too much hassle and complexity.
Just go to the gym, record, keep track of exercises, sets, reps and weights used, go home, add names to your exercises, maybe use apple intelligence to analyze your workouts and get suggestions for the next one.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 walking distance is inaccurate on watchOS 27.0.1
Is anyone else experiencing inaccurate walking distance on their Apple Watch Ultra 4?
Here are some examples of my recorded steps and distances:
15,148 steps: 7.84 km (4.87 miles)
10,700 steps: 5.35 km (3.32 miles)
2,017 steps: 0.85 km (0.53 miles)
I’ve reset Fitness Calibration Data, changed Motion & Calibration settings, restarted both my watch and phone, and completed an outdoor calibration walk of over 30+ minutes without my phone on me... Nothing seems to fix it.
I’m running watchOS 27.0.1. Is this a known software bug? Has anyone found a fix that actually works?
Also, has anyone noticed any improvement in walking distance accuracy on the newer watchOS beta updates

For strength on Apple Watch, do you start the workout before warm up or only when the first set starts?
Curious how people time the Watch workout for lifting or circuits.
If I start before warm up the Exercise ring fills on easy movement and average heart rate looks soft. If I wait until set one I lose the warm up minutes and sometimes forget to hit start.
What do you actually do?
- Start before warm up and accept the soft average
- Start only when the first working set begins
- Use Functional Strength Training or Traditional Strength and ignore the average
- Something else that works better
If you switched approaches, what made you change?

Moving from treadmill to outdoors - Can the watch do this?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but right now I run using a treadmill. Propped up on the treadmill is the notes app on my phone that would say something like:
0.0km - 0.2km - Walk at speed 4km/h
0.2km - 2.5km - Run at speed 8km/h
2.5km - 5km - Run at speed 10km/h
But I want to see if running outdoors is more fun
Can I program my apple watch to let me know my speed at that moment
Can it tell me my average speed
Can it tell me when to switch up pace
Do I have to continue to look at my watch for this info or can it voice prompt me via airpods
Do I need my phone with me (my watch is non GSM)
What other things should I consider?

Has anyone walking backwards on the StairMaster?
I’ve been experimenting with walking backwards on the StairMaster and wanted to hear other people’s thoughts. I’m curious if anyone here has tried it as part of their endurance training or noticed any differences compared to using it normally. Do you think it’s beneficial for runners, or is regular StairMaster training just as effective?

Apple watch data explained (part 3): what to do when your HRV is way down one morning
Data scientist at it again lol. So let's say you wake up and HRV is way under normal, you had a workout planned, and now you’re guessing whether you train should or not. So a friend let me go through 9 months of his watch data so i can actually check how often those mornings actually meant anything (for him at least).
He had 36 mornings where HRV came in 20%+ under his normal. On 30 of them his 7 day average barely moved, and more than half the time he was back to normal the next morning.
SOOO... One reading is probably just noise, the watch only takes a few short samples a day, mostly while you sleep.
Some fancy charts lol for the data nerds:

what i’d check before skipping anything:
- your normal: tap HRV in the health app, switch to 6 months, note the average
- this week: switch to the week view. if that average is still close to your normal, it was one bad reading. train
- resting HR: same check. 5+ bpm above your normal is worth noticing
- sleep: two short nights in a row hit way harder than one
week average down plus one of the other two = easy day. anything else, you can train
Only 3 of those 36 mornings were actually easy days for him, the other 30 would’ve been skips for nothing if he worried too much..
That's it ig :D
So if your numbers are confusing you drop what’s going on below and i’ll dm you what i’d look at 😄

11 years in the making!
I bought my first Apple Watch S0 on 15 Oct 2015 and since the following day I hit all my rings, initially without even trying. 1000cal/30min/12h have been my same goals all those years. I had a streak of 2657 days before the counter broke because of traveling across the intl date line. And then the streak ended for real last year March when I was hospitalized for a spell. So, I have only been missing those 2 weeks. Needless to say, AW changed the way I am holding myself accountable for my fitness / health / well being.

World Mental Health Day Challenge 2026. Didn’t get the alert, but still did the challenge, and didn’t unlock it?
UPDATE: I just installed the latest versions of iOS and watchOS on my phone and watch and lo and behold, the award is now showing as unlocked on my phone, but not my watch, so I think a reboot and re-sync or two will fix this, so if you haven’t done that, try messing around with reboots of your phone and watch to trigger a re-sync.
UPDATE 2: …and after charging my watch and phone during sleep I see the award finally appeared on my watch. Everything is synched now. Don’t know what was going on with this, but I suspect it has something to do with both watchOS 27 and iOS 27 just being released between the last limited edition challenge and this one and Apple making changes to the Fitness app…? I’m going to pay closer attention around Veteran’s Day.
———-
I wear my Apple Watch religiously and it’s been a goal to complete all of the limited edition challenges (as you can see in my images). I always get notified of an upcoming challenge one day before it goes live, so I should’ve gotten an alert on October 9th that a limited edition challenge for World Mental Health Day was about to be coming on the 10th. I did not get that alert.
But even still, be that as it may, apparently the challenge was to complete a 10 minute meditation OR workout that day…which I did. I did a 45 minute outdoor walk, yet I still did not unlock that award.
In previous years, I believe the challenge was limited to only using the mindfulness app to record mindfulness minutes, but this year, the challenge said to record either mindfulness minutes OR a workout, and some people were saying they only recorded a workout and it unlocked.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any chance I can get my award? I’ve rebooted both my phone and my watch to no avail. I have obtained every single limited award since January 1 2024 and this bothers me now, lol.

Explaining apple watch data (part 2): what your numbers do in the days before you get sick
So I got the idea for this post from a comment I got on one of my posts here where the guy mentioned how he noticed his health metrics changing even though he felt fine and then he fell sick after a few days.
Even i have noticed this. The thing is your watch often notices you’re getting sick before you do.
Here’s a scenario, a typical week. Lets say this person’s normal is HRV around 50, resting HR around 55.
- mon: HRV 52, RHR 55. all normal. good day to train
- tue: HRV 50, RHR 56. still fine
- wed: HRV 44, RHR 59. feels totally fine. this is the first sign. easy day
- thu: HRV 38, RHR 62. a bit tired, blames work maybe, should rest
- fri: HRV 33, RHR 65. sore throat. now he knows
- sat/sun: HRV 31 to 36, RHR 63 to 66. rest
- next wed: HRV 48, RHR 57. almost back
The body was already fighting something 2 days before the symptoms showed up. I mean, does not happen always, but a lot of times this does help.
how to catch it yourself:
- resting HR a few beats above your normal for 2+ days, especially with HRV dropping, means skip the hard training session
- check the vitals app. it flags overnight heart rate, breathing rate and wrist temp when they’re outside your range, and it notifies you when 2 or more are off at once. That’s the one to listen to
- coming back: wait until resting HR is back within a beat or two of your normal for a couple of days before training hard again
If your numbers have been doing something weird lately or you have noticed something unique please do comment, would love to chat 😄

Apple watch VO2 max
Hi everyone! I’m a 20-year-old woman, and my Apple Watch recently recorded a VO2 max of 27.5 ml/kg/min, which Health classifies as “Low” for my age.
I looked up VO2 max charts online and found information suggesting that low values are associated with a significantly increased risk of all-cause mortality. I saw a chart mentioning a 76% difference in risk, and it honestly scared me.
I’ve also experienced occasional dizziness and shortness of breath, sometimes during physical activity. My oxygen saturation has shown 99% on my Apple Watch.
I’m worried that this low VO2 max could indicate an underlying heart or lung problem, or even an increased risk of sudden cardiac arrest.

Health app reverted to old
So today I updated to iOS 27 beta 4 on my iPhone, and after installing that beta, the new Health app got removed and replaced by the older one.
I'm not sure why Apple would do that. I was able to see the new Health app until 27.2 beta 3, but beta 4 reverted it for no particular reason.
