Marketing How do you find your first users outside your own country?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m an indie developer from Thailand, and I recently built and launched my own mobile app.
Most of my current users are from Thailand because that’s where I live, I understand the community, and it’s much easier for me to create content and reach people here.

But now I want to start finding users from other countries, especially English-speaking users.
The problem is… I honestly don’t know where to start.

For those of you who launched an app internationally:
How did you get your first users from other countries?

Which channels worked best for you? Reddit, TikTok, X, SEO, communities, ads, etc.?
Did you translate/localize your app first, or start with English?
Is it better to focus on one country first instead of trying to go global?
I’m a solo developer, so I don’t have a big marketing budget.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this before.

Growth Earned my first $

I just earned my first $!!!
I won’t bore you with some AI written bullshit learning because there is none.
Don’t get me wrong.
I’ve build apps before. I’m a professional iOS Dev for over 4 years now, freelancing for a year.
This isn’t the first app I published and it wasn’t the first paywall I build or the first purchase made within an app I developed.
But this time is the first time it is 100% mine and somehow that makes me happier than I imagined.
I wanted to share this because even though it’s not a lot of money this somehow means a lot to me and I think it did or will for you.

So happy coding you all and wishing you and me a lot of success 😂

How do you value publicly traded app/software businesses?

I've been looking at how investors evaluate software and app businesses beyond the usual revenue-growth and P/E metrics.

For me, the interesting part is trying to combine:

Revenue and earnings growth

ROIC / ROE

Free cash flow

WACC and terminal growth

Comparable-company multiples

Historical financial performance

Bull / base / bear scenarios

The challenge is that these inputs are usually spread across different sources, which makes it difficult to get a consistent valuation quickly.

I've been experimenting with a platform that brings these elements together and produces an intrinsic-value estimate for listed companies.

I'm curious: when you evaluate an app/software company, which metric or valuation methodology do you trust the most?

Why is my side hustle not working? I think I built a solution to a problem that doesn't exist...

Post image

First of all, I am not good at English, and one of my everyday tasks with generative AI was fixing grammar and changing the tone. The hardest part was describing the problem I wanted the AI to solve.

Even for a simple question, I had to write it, go to Gemini or ChatGPT, and paste it. Then, writing something like "Fix grammar errors, don't reply with any extra text" over and over again felt repetitive, so I thought I could build an app. That's how I built Mimtush.

It took me almost two months to build and test the app, create the backend, find cost-effective API solutions, and publish everything on the Play Store.

I was seeing Reddit and Facebook posts almost every day about people building apps in 7 days and earning millions in just 4 months. So, my expectations were pretty high, and I came crashing down to earth in just 4–5 days.

I have tried listing my app on several platforms, but it seems like they all want some kind of payment.

So, I just want to tell anyone building something: don't set your expectations too high for something you've built, because not everyone will share your enthusiasm for it. Also, on social media, YouTube, and everywhere else, not everyone tells the truth. People just love showing off instead of telling the truth.

If anyone is curious, you're most welcome to visit mimtush.com and download it from the Play Store to give it a try.

I would appreciate any kind of feedback or comments from you!

You know a company is dogshit when Reddit does its customer support. Welcome to the club, Google.

Google Play's customer support is apeshit. You can't get a human to reply to you. And if you do, they have the half the problem-solving skills of a lobotomized midget porn star.

Some countries are hit harder than others. So Sundar Pichai's wife's stepmother hatched a brilliant plan when preparing breakfast dosa: Why not get someone on Reddit to reply to upset developers to show that Google fucking cares? It'll be just like handing out food to fucking low castes at the temple to show everyone how good we are. Enter u/GooglePlayDevSupport.

Google has finally joined the shit-stained ranks of Booking com and Namecheap: companies that treat customers like disposable panties on their own platforms, then crawl out of the corporate sewer and pretend to give a few fucks on Reddit. Developers have to dance for help on Reddit and if your dancing is Bollywood enough, the Pichai God might be pleased. Dance for me, peasant. Dance for support so we can show the whole world that we're a ray of fucking sunshine.

I hate Google with a passion. They have locked Gmail accounts that I haven't used in a while, even though I have the correct password and access to the recovery email. These accounts were tied to essential things that I now cannot access. Do you know how risky it is to use an email provider that can lock your account at their whim? They have made me jump through endless hoops to solve problems with Play Console and wasted my time. They have put my home address online and put me at risk of being swatted by mentally ill Android users who want my games for free.

Showcase I’ll design free App Store screenshots for the first 2 apps in the comments

Post image

I’m making screenshot concepts for two apps today. The image shows the kind of work I can make, with a different style for each app.

If you’d like one, comment with your App Store link and a short description of your app. If it isn’t live yet, share a few raw screenshots instead. I’ll take the first two with enough details to work from.

Apple enrollment late

Hello, fellow App developers.

I have recently finished v1.0.0 for my app, and it is in testing phase in Play Store, but I submited my enrollment request on Monday in Apple, they say they answer within 2 business days, but it's Friday and I'm still waiting for an answer.

Has anyone experienced that too? How should I proceed?

I have sent them two support requests already too.

Growth Questions for those with experience

  • How long did it take to get your first download and receive your payment?
  • During this process, which advertising systems did you find to have the highest conversion rates?
  • What steps did you take for ASO, and how did you use your $100 Apple credit? I received an email, but I can’t find any menu where I can view the balance.

I was always late because I underestimated traffic. Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm a young guy from Colombia, and I've always been the kind of person who thinks, "I still have plenty of time to get there."

The problem? I was almost always wrong.

I'd calculate how long it would take to get somewhere, assume traffic would be normal, and leave just enough time to arrive right on schedule. Then something unexpected would happen: traffic would be worse than usual, the trip would take longer than I expected, and I'd end up arriving 10–30 minutes late.

It wasn't that I didn't care about being punctual. I was simply terrible at estimating travel time.

After experiencing this over and over again, I started thinking about how useful it would be if my alarm could account for traffic and wake me up earlier when necessary.

That idea eventually led me to develop an app called Smart Alarm AI.

I'm not sharing this to promote it. I'm genuinely curious about something:

How many of you struggle with estimating travel time? Do you leave extra time just in case, rely on Google Maps, or keep telling yourself you still have time until it's too late?

I'd love to hear your experiences.

Showcase Selling my Sahih Bukhari offline app Android, 19K downloads, ranking #1 in its category on Play Store

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm selling my Android app, Sahih Bukhari Hadith Offline

I built and maintained it myself, but I'm dealing with some personal stuff right now and can't give it the time it deserves. I'd rather hand it to someone who can actually grow it.

What it is:

A fully offline reader for Sahih al-Bukhari (all 7,563 hadiths) in Arabic, Urdu and English. It has search by keyword, hadith number or chapter, plus bookmarks, personal notes, resume reading, font and theme options, and a daily hadith notification.

Numbers (being upfront):

About 19K total downloads

Currently ranks #1 in its category on the Play Store for its keywords

around 10k active users right now

Ads are already integrated and live

Last updated Oct 2026, so it's current and Android 15 ready

Why it's a decent buy:

The ranking is the real asset

Organic installs keep coming without any ad spend.

The content is complete, so there's no major dev work left.

The niche (Islamic apps) has a big audience, and there's room to add things like audio, more Hadith books, or push notification campaigns.

What's included:

Full source code, Play Console transfer, the ad setup, and a short handover so you're not stuck.

If you're interested, DM me and I'll share the Play Store link, console screenshots and proof of ownership. Serious offers only please.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments too.

Marketing I built a simple offline car expense tracker for Android, no account needed

I’m the developer of Odomo, a small Android app I made to track what my car actually costs me.
I kept losing receipts and could never say how much went to fuel versus service in a given month. So I wanted something simple on my phone: add a vehicle, log the odometer when you fill up or get work done, and see spending by category (fuel, service, tolls, car care). There’s a monthly summary, and you can export everything to CSV if you prefer working in a spreadsheet.
Maintenance reminders can be set by date or by mileage, so something like an oil change every 10,000 km or every 6 months. It handles km or miles, liters, your own currency, and has dark and light themes.
What it isn’t: there’s no account, no cloud sync, no GPS tracking, and no ads in this version. Everything stays on the device. Settings has a Reset All Data option if you want to wipe it. The downside is that if you lose your phone without exporting, the data goes with it, so it’s worth saving a CSV now and then.
It’s meant for people who own a car or two and want a plain expense log, not a fleet tool.
Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ismailbelgacem.drivo
I’m still deciding what to build next. What do you currently use to track car costs, if anything, and what’s one feature you’d miss if you switched?
