Question Water bottle / swimming pool

First of all, he is out and wandering around, I can't vouch for whether he'll be OK or even find his way back to the nest (I tried my best to help), so he came out of the ordeal intact for the moment.

That said, how, what, how?!? Is this something that happens? Presumably he got sucked in?

I was worried they weren't using it; at least that's not the case anyway!

Seriously though, is this just something that can happen or am I doing something wrong?

Colony Week 15: Solenopsis Invicta

It has been 15 weeks and 1 day since finding Queen Solaris of the Sunfall Legion. I have finally moved them to an actual nest perhaps a little too soon.

The white stuff is elmers glue to hold the glass down and prevent escapes. Iam still gonna keep an eye on it. I choose elmers because its non toxic and I think it will be easier to remove then other glues for when they move out.

Also at the top that is not a crack in the glass. I think its dog hair or a string of something.

Ants eating stuff Ant Laboratory: Live Insect Feeding & Fresh Leaves Coming in a Free Update! 🐜 (Free Game Codes Available!)

The video showcases an exciting new feature coming in an upcoming free update to Ant Laboratory! You’ll soon be able to feed live insects to your colonies, allowing you to observe their natural hunting and foraging behaviors. You’ll also be able to provide fresh leaves to your herbivorous colonies, adding another layer of realism to the simulation.
All updates to Ant Laboratory will always be free. My goal is to continue expanding the game with new species, behaviors, and scientifically inspired features that bring the fascinating world of ants to life.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has purchased and supported the game so far. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to embark on a project like this, and seeing others enjoy something I’ve poured so much passion into has been incredibly rewarding.

If you’d like to experience the game for yourself, just send me a PM and I’ll gladly share a free promo code!
🐜 Android launches November 3rd, with a Steam release planned shortly afterward!
Thank you all for your time, encouragement, and support. I’m a solo developer with big ambitions for this little ant simulator, and there’s so much more to come!

Question Fungus Quality for New Atta Texana Colony?

I just got an atta colony shipped via next day mail from someone on the other side of my state and the fungus looks a bit dull? This is my first time keeps Atta and I wanted an opinion on the overall look of the fungus. The queen had about 30 workers. I donated some of the fungus from this colony to my other queen who is in the founding stage and has brood but no fungus. She seems to have accepted it. I got this colony in the mail 2 days ago so whats in the pics doesn't reflect much growth.

Question I think my queen is eating her eggs

First time ant keeper here. I bought a red harvester ant queen and three maidens to assist her. So far she has laid many eggs but they keep disappearing. Unless shes hiding them I can not find them anymore. I saw one that looked like it was a little bigger but it isnt inside anymore. On Tuesday I did change their desk top formicaria for a really small one with 2 test tubes and smaller outworld. I looked a lot easier to feed them by going into the outworld to the tube instead if just stressing them out by removing the tube from their past 4 tube formicaria. I know I should have just left them in one test tube but as I said, I felt like I was stressing them when I had to feed them. I recently got a heating cable and have it at the entrance of the tube and not near their water. I feed them seeds and will sometimes boil a small piece of chicken for the queen. I get a lot of mixed messages when I Google about leaving protein for the queen and red drink or nectar. Anything you can educate me on will be extremely helpful.

Question So i need advice on how much i screwed up my ants

I bought a small ant farm and a queen ant, messor structor. She layed and hatched eggs in her tube. And then i transferred her to the enclosure. They quickly moved there and moved all remaining food to storage. Then nothing happened. First of all queen constantly move from nest are to the arena. Second it was several months and she doesn't lay eggs. A few days ago i noticed that nest was dry because water didn't humidify their nest properly. (I think this explains why she constantly left the nest since she usually hang out around a piece of cotton than i spray with water as a source of drinking water.

Question if she didn't lay new eggs for a few months is there a chance of her recovering?

Question Tetramorium bicarinatum moving dead workers for 3h

Hi, I just gave my tetramorium bicarinatum this new outworld. They started moving dead workers while exploring. Does anybody have any idea why? At first I just thought they were making a new dead pile but they have been doing this for the past 3 hours. Sorry for the bad video quality.

Discussion M. Mexicanus queen is dying, seeking advice for brood boosting my M. Navajo

Unfortunately my m. Mexicanus was Injured when I first found her, gaster was dented and one leg was dysfunctional. She was able to raise 2 nanitics and a nice larvae pile, but sadly her paralysis has spread to all but 2 of her legs, she's still alive but I don't know how long her nanitics will be able to care for her.

I also have a colony of M. Navajo that I just moved into a mini hearth, I would love to try and save this queens brood to temporarily boost this other colony. I read that this should be possible since they're so closely related, but it's only recommended to use cocoons. I'm guessing there's no hope for transferring her nanitics without the 2 colonies fighting. I won't be trying anything at all until this queen is dead, but it seems like it won't be long. I don't think pesticide exposure was the killer here, she was found in the desert away from civilization, and her injuries were physical. Can anyone offer advice on if this will even work and how I should go about it?

I bought this out world from Ant Forge USA to make feeding and cleaning less stressful. It has 2 ports for 16mm test tubes. When hooking up my tube that has the ants should I hook it into the more narrow hole or the wide open one, or does it not matter? 2 weeks ago I got chestnut carpenters, 8 workers and 1 queen. Also If I put 2 test tubes on it and plug all the holes it is there enough air coming in? It doesn’t seem to have any vents. There is a smaller hole between the 2 test tube holes, if I plug that with cotton will that be enough air for them? I’m a first time keeper, any advice please

Question I want to start ant keeping!

I want to start ant keeping. I looked some stuff up and I think I want an ant I think is called a bi-carpenter ant. The one with stripes. Im going to be using materials I have at home. I want to keep the population at around 50 when I get a queen. I live in Langford by happy valley road and right by my house is a big deforested area that was deforested a while ago. I travel alot and trips can be 1 and a half months. I know I will have to catch bugs for protein for them. Im to scared of spiders and flying things are to hard though. Any tips?

Question Heating ants (honeypot ants)

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

This is my first autumn/ winter with my honeypot ants Myrmecocystus placodops. I have been using a heat cable up until now which has worked well, keeping a section of the nest or tube at around 26 degrees Celsius. However now the ambient room temperature has dropped to 10 degrees and so my heat cable only keeps the warm area near the cables at 20 degrees. If I increase the area to any warmer by covering it up to increase insulation, I seem to get massive amounts of condensation.

Any tips on a better heating set up - assume I’m doing this all wrong (very much a beginner here!)
