Several people have asked me how to buy a stock on BODIVA, so I've put everything together here. This is not investment advice: these are the steps and official websites where you can confirm each thing.
What you take to the bank/broker
- A bank account in your name, with IBAN
- The Multicaixa card for that account
- Your NIF (tax identification number)
- An email address you use
The steps
- Choose a bank or brokerage firm that is a member of BODIVA. Confirm the name on the BODIVA member list and in the CMC register. If it is not on either, do not hand over any money.
- Open a custody account. This is where the shares and debentures are registered in your name, at CEVAMA. The money remains in your bank account.
- Choose what to buy. In the session of October 16th, there were 7 listed stocks, ranging from 19,005 Kz (Caixa Geral Angola) to 100,000 Kz (BFA and BODIVA) each.
- Give the order to the intermediary: the title and the quantity. In the case of stocks, the order is only fulfilled when someone sells at that price.
- Confirm that it is in your name, on the intermediary's statement or in the Investor Portfolio (carteira.bodiva.ao).
How much does it cost, for example?
10 ENSA shares at 23,000 Kz give 230,000 Kz. With the 0.75% commission on the MADZ Global price, that's another 1,725 Kz: 231,725 Kz in total, before taxes and market fees. According to the same price list, consulted on October 18th, opening and maintaining the account is free of charge, and custody costs 0.05% per year on the portfolio value. Each intermediary has its own price list, so ask before opening an account.
Treasury Bonds
You can also buy on the Ministry of Finance's Investor Portal (portaldoinvestidor.minfin.gov.ao), but you still need a custody account. In the example price list, the commission is 0.25% in the primary market and 0.50% in the secondary market.
If something goes wrong
First, talk to the intermediary. Then contact CMC through the complaints and grievances channel, or BODIVA via email at [apoio.investidor@bodiva.ao](mailto:apoio.investidor@bodiva.ao).
The complete version, with commission calculator and updated quotes, is here: Complete guide If you find any errors, let me know and I will correct them.
(Transparency: I wrote this for the website of Monaza, an Angolan personal finance app I'm building. They don't need it for any of this.)
