General /r/AnalogueInc Mod Rules Note

Hey guys, it's been a while. Just going to keep this short and sweet.

I've been inundated over the last couple of years with people asking for more moderation. I have purposefully been mostly hands-off, and only moderated severe violations (links to ROMs, severe user harrasment, etc.) but based on some of the stuff I've seen recently, things have gotten a bit worse, so I'm going to change things a bit.

Firstly, I will enforce moderation more strictly. All existing rules apply, but if I'm on the fence, instead of erring towards "let them figure it out", I'll just remove stuff.

Second, I've seen quite a few posts that are sus recently. Posts of pictures to scalpers or other sales of products, which are designed to look like you're complaining about the scalper, but really it's most likely a covert sales tactic. In the spirit of the original moderators "No sales, ever" rules, I will from now on remove any content that gets reported that has links or pictures to any sales platform like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, etc. You can of course still share links and photos of the Analogue official website. In addition, don't be cheeky and post a photo of your hardware and then say "but I might sell it, idk". I have always let that slide, but since people have wanted more moderation, this is one change I am going to make.

Third, and this isn't new either, harassment rules apply to all your fellow active Reddit users. Yes, even if that Reddit user is a public figure. Do not harass people.

Finally, I'm planning to bring on additional moderators in the near future since all the other mods besides me are now inactive.

Thanks, that's it. Feel free to leave your thoughts and your complaints below.

General Let's keep the Analogue 3D overclocking compatibility spreadsheet updated!

All credit goes to u/phan148

He posted this a few months ago and people were quick to help sort out which games run better on Unleashed and what to watch out for.

Analogue 3D Overclock Compatibility List

I noticed it hasn't been updated much since then. I tend to check it every couple weeks when I start a new game. If you've put a good amount of time into a particular n64 game and can confidently comment the changes Unleashed mode brings or if you'd recommend NOT overclocking it for any reason, please contribute your findings!

There are still hundreds of games out there that haven't been formally documented!

Super Nt You guys think there's any chance of this controller color way coming back, or did they just re-use old marketing material?

General Physical carts or roms

• Upvotes

I think I might skip the NT, because I already own a Pocket and don’t own a ton of SNES games. But if I would buy it: what is the difference between popping in a cartridge and playing a rom in a core? Is it just for the nice feeling of popping in your old cart, or are there actual technical advantages when you play your physical carts?

General On the fence

Hi all. I missed out on the Super NT and Mega SG back in the day. The FOMO has me readying my wallet for tomorrow, but Retro Remake just posted they are working on similar FPGA consoles that will do 4K and read carts. My friend has one of their Super Stations and it’s pretty slick. I’m expecting the Analogue sub to recommend their products, but idk what to do. Could I risk waiting for now to see what Retro Remake comes up with? It seems impossible to predict when or if Analogue will ever restock any given product. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Mega Sg Would Analogue release their own CD drive for use with Sega CD/Mega CD games?

Being able to use an original Sega CD is a great feature, but as years go by more systems will fail and parts will dry up, so I’m curious if Analogue would consider making their own attachment, a SGCD+? I know there is a rom cartridge that plays CD game roms, but a solution to play original games would be great, especially given that they put a CD drive in the Analogue Duo. I’m surprised they didn’t make their own version of the CDX or JVC X’Eye, the name Mega SGX sounds good.

The ability to play 32X games would have been great too, but that would be for a different post. I’ll keep watching what GamesCare is doing for now on that end.

3D Does fw 1.5.1 break SM64 dissolve effect for you?

Post image
8 Upvotes

[EDIT] Turning off the 32-bit color enhancement fixes this issue. Newest firmware has an updated internal database of game-specific default settings, so it will enable this setting by default for Super Mario 64 when you play the game for the first time and it gets added to your library. You should disable the setting for this game. Turning the setting OFF fixes the issue 100%. Thanks, [u/Valken](u/Valken)!
[/EDIT]

This photo from Google image search shows how it should look. It worked correctly on my Analogue 3D before the latest update, but now (after installing firmware 1.5.1) Mario just turns invisible instead of showing particles.

Is it just me? I think I would have seen reports from other people by now. You should be able to see the effect from a warp/teleport or by getting the vanish cap. Also the effect is used when Bowser disappears after you defeat him. I'm playing the NTSC North American version of the game from an original cartridge.

My Analogue 3D is from the first production batch as I pre-ordered day-1 in 2024. Immediately after installing the 1.5.1 firmware update, I reset everything (including the library and profiles) on my A3D for a fresh clean start. Cleared the SD card too except a couple Zelda OoT save states. Then, because the new firmware finally lets us add a custom name for "unknown" library entries, I tested my uncommon flash cartridge (RetroActive 64Drive HW2) with custom label art and name. I had never really tried to use it with Analogue 3D before, but it seems to work fine.

I didn't have much time to play games on the newest firmware, so it took a while before I tried Super Mario 64 and noticed this issue. Is it just me?

I might try downgrading the firmware tonight to verify if that fixes the issue.

3D My Analogue 3D is weird

TL/DR: I noticed the dissolve effects in Super Mario 64 do not work after 1.5.1 update. Vanish cap Mario is just invisible. Didn't think much of it. Then my system glitched while creating a save state (Memory). Playing NTSC North American version.

Download my glitched save state: https://filebin.net/vbx2w3k8rjolv5t6

Pre-ordered my Analogue 3D in 2024 so this unit is from the very first batch. I wanted a fresh start immediately after installing the 1.5.1 update. I reset / reinitialized EVERYTHING, including dozens of library entries that had been created from my original cartridges. Most of them were created before the A3D's realtime clock was activated with a past firmware update, so the metadata was wonky anyway. I noticed some of the filesystem dates on the SD card were strange (like "2099" or something like that). I wanted the cleanest possible fresh start before trying the new feature to customize the name for "Unknown" library entries (my 64Drive HW2). I cleared almost everything from the SD card except a couple of save states (memories) for Zelda OoT and finished the custom label art + name for the 64Drive HW2. Everything worked great with the custom name and label art.

I loaded a single test ROM onto the 64Drive HW2: Pilotwings 64. I noticed the title screen for Pilotwings shows a tiny glitch as the logo appears, except when I disable overclocking by setting "Force Original Hardware." Didn't think too much of it. I did not test my original Pilotwings 64 US/JP cartridges to see if they do the same thing.

A few days later I played some Super Mario 64 and I noticed the dissolve effects do not work (teleport/warp, vanish cap, Bowser dissolve). Mario just turns invisible instead.

Today I played some more SM64 and decided to make a save state so I could play around and experiment with risky jumps. It glitched like you see in the video as soon as I created the save state. It was really crazy but I managed to collect a few stars that way. Later, I created another save state and everything snapped back to normal (but the thumbnail for that memory was captured while it was still glitched). Resetting the game always clears the glitch. I can trigger the glitch again at any time using the save state, even after power-cycle.

I copied both Memories and uploaded them so maybe someone can tell me if it triggers the same glitch for you.

Will they be releasing new updates for the original Super Nt, or just the Super Nt+? Last Super Nt update was in August 2023

Super Nt Super NT+ does not include Super Turrican Director's Cut

This is something I haven't seen mentioned, and this game (I think) is still unavailable on any other media or digital form.

Assuming Super Turrican Director's Cut remains locked to the original Super NT, I think that will mean there will still be a premium price for the original console.

General I ordered an Analogue3d and have an Everdrive 2.5 to use currently but am wondering how much hassle it would be to switch to a Summercart in the future.

I'm still waiting for my Analogue3d to arrive and was wondering: if I were to switch to a Summercart from an Everdrive 2.5 sometime in the future, how much of a hassle would it be to redo all my settings? Would I have to clear the database and start over? Or can I just swap between them and not have to change anything?

I would like to avoid having to spend more money right now since the Everdrive works well enough but don't want to invest a ton of time with it if its going to be a pain to switch to the Summercart. I can still use the Everdrive with my real n64 and use the Summercart with the A3D and not have to worry about resetting to save my game.

I am hoping to use one of my blueretro adapters (if the blueretro rng is favorable to me) so I would just use that for gamepak saves.

Super Nt Will the Super Nt+ bring back the original Super Nt startup animation?

One small detail I haven’t seen mentioned about the Super Nt+: do we know if it will bring back the iconic startup animation and music from the original Super Nt?

I absolutely loved that intro. It gave the Super Nt so much personality and really captured the SNES era, and I was a little disappointed that the Pocket and Analogue 3D went for a much more minimal startup experience.

I’ve asked Analogue Support as well, but I was wondering if anyone has seen this confirmed anywhere.

I really hope they kept it for the Super Nt+!

Speculation ODE VS. FPGA Console for 32-bit Systems (Hypothetical)

So I just got my Analogue 3D, and honestly? I love it. It's such a nice plug and play console to the point that I'll probably never plug in the regular N64 again.

But that got me thinking about FPGA consoles for other consoles of the era. Specifically, the PlayStation 1 and the Sega Saturn. As I understand, the only option for PS1 is the SuperStation1, while Saturn still has ways to go for polished FPGA compatibility.

Personally, I'm not too impressed by the SuperStation1 and it's separate disc drive, so I'll pass on that. However, that made me consider the numerous Optical Disc Emulators (ODE) for the PS1 and Saturn. With an ODE like Satiator for Saturn, I could play my backups without having to remove the disc drive itself. At the same time, it is a hassle to pull out these systems and pull out the appropriate AV cables because I live in a bit of a cramped space.

So my question is this: Is it worth it to just get ODEs for PS1 and Saturn or wait for a potential polished FPGA PS1 and Saturn. What are the pros and cons between the two options?

Yes, I know they will be expensive, and I know for sure the wait will be a long, long time. However, I am patient.

Speculation Cope post: Could Analogue add features like save states retroactively?

Post image
46 Upvotes

Tl;dr; Title.

Since I didn’t have the money to motivate a buy back when Super Nt released I’ve dreamt of an updated model or re-release and it’s finally on its way! Timed it in to another personal financial slope but this time I’m not missing out.

While I’m hyped, there seems to be a lot of desired features missing from the + release. Save states is my most wanted of them all (honest question, would 4k really be a big difference?).

Is it possible for Analogue to add features like that through a software update? And do we believe they will?

Btw I’m not gonna use rom carts or stuff, just my original carts.

General Will the Super Nt+ be a limited run or keep getting restocked ?

Hey everyone. So I really got suprised by the shadow drop of the Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+. I lost all hope to ever being able to get it, so I love that they're bringing it back.

Sadly, I can't afford a Super Nt+ right now and I'm afraid I'll have to wait years (if ever) for them to offer it again, because I'm sure as hell not paying scalper prices.

The 3d gets restocked, so maybe they decided to keep those up as well ? Maybe I'm just coping (probably).

Let me know what you think.
