Hey everyone, I’ve been revisiting a lot Alex G’s earlier discography (Race, Rules, DSU) and I’m looking for artists or albums with a similar raw, intimate, lo-fi feel.
I enjoy shoegaze, but I'm pretty selective with it—I'm not just looking for massive walls of noise/fuzz. I tend to prefer stuff that balances hazy textures with good melodies and psychedelic elements. My fav Alex G songs are thorns, and salt.
For context on my taste, some other bands I listen to a lot are:

MGMT

Crumb

STRFKR

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

Pond

Fugazi

Any hidden gems, smaller indie acts, or specific albums that bridge the gap between lo-fi indie, melodic shoegaze, and psych? I’m a pretty big music nerd, so there’s a high chance I’ve heard most of what people consider “main stream” rn, but I also delve heavily into underground stuff, so obscure recommendations are a plus, not afraid of weird stuff, genuinely open to all music as long it sounds sonically good to me. I definitely gravitate more towards alternative, indie, post hardcore tho! Thanks in advance

I’ve been working solo on a 24/7 broadcast for the last few months, have gotten tremendous outreach, and have learned a lot about my fellow musicians a long the way.

Here’s a little about the channel:
>24/7 independent broadcast for music videos, visualizers, experimental shorts, and indie animation.
>No algorithms. just curated rotation.
>I make visualizers for accepted tracks that don’t have videos.
>No submission fees, no exclusivity, rights stay with the artist.
>No AI.

We’re at around 300 submissions so far. Still early and still building the library and schedule. More content gets processed and added as it goes.
If you’ve got something that fits (music video, visualizer, short, animation, or just audio and want a visual made), you can submit it here:

Hello all! I am a 23 year old shoegaze artist from southern MI. I wrote, produced and recorded this entire EP on my own over the past year. I’ve put together a band for live performances (which have been endlessly fun and exciting!). The next album (sophomore record) will be recorded as a band, but here’s how it sounds with just me.

It would mean the WORLD to me and the band if you guys took the time to check out the work I’ve put in over the past few years. I recorded this all with a busted Shure SM-57 and a shitty interface. I find you’ll enjoy this if you’re fans of artists such as Whirr, Slowdive, DIIV or Glare. Thank you so much for constantly inspiring me in this subreddit, love you all. - Zachary Smith

We're building NITEBOX.TV, a new 24/7 alternative music television channel inspired by the days when MTV and 120 Minutes actually played music videos.

Alternative rock, post-punk, deathrock, synth pop, new wave, goth, and everything in between.

We're musicians ourselves, and the idea is simple: a curated television channel where you can discover emerging independent bands alongside established artists. No endless scrolling or algorithms deciding what you hear next. Just great music videos.

We're currently building our initial lineup and looking for independent bands and labels interested in having their videos featured.

Submissions and airplay are free. We work directly with artists and rights holders to obtain broadcasting permission.

NITEBOX is being developed for Google TV, Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV.

If you're in a band, run a label, or just miss the days of discovering music through television, we'd love for you to check it out.

Alternative Underground Voices — I’m updating the playlist and looking for band tracks under 500 monthly listeners.

I’m specifically looking for songs that don’t sound clean:
saturated guitars, untrained voices, room noise, tension, mistakes that turn into identity.

If you want to take a ride — and if you have something that fits this perimeter — share it.
I’m listening to everything for the next selection.

Dear AR community,

Our debut album "The Scapegoat's Agony" turned 30 last November so we are giving away some free Bandcamp codes to celebrate this anniversary just a little bit longer🙂:

https://comabeach.bandcamp.com/album/the-scapegoats-agony

The album title "The Scapegoat's Agony" is an allusion to the play "Waiting for Godot" by Irish playwright and novelist Samuel Beckett and points towards the – for the most part – painful and excruciating emotional odyssey of the unnamed antihero.

Our musical influences range from Sex Pistols, Ramones, Hüsker Dü, Joy Division, The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain to Guns N' Roses, Therapy? and Bad Religion, with our songs frequently straddling the line between punk rock and alternative rock.
