Discussion π€ Since we are talking about the French student protests
This is how police is treating the protestors (who are minors. A 15 years old lost his hand btw) during day protests (arson happening in night times which in itself is a shady part. But what is laughable is how people are using the ciolence and clashes in France protests as a way to deter and criticize protests in India (when no such violence except those from Delhi (Dalli) police's side, has happened in India) but the people in France are completely behind the protests. A recent poll on BFMTV showed 72% of French citizens regard the student demands as legitimate while 55% unconditionally supports them.
Now, trade unions, teachers, parents and Yellow Vests have also joined the protest. A stark contrast to us who have been taught to call protestors by different names, look for foreign angles and more. And worst part is, we are lapping it up inconditionally without actually looking at ground reports, facts and legitimacy of protests. We are basically in a Good German phase jahaan Government accountability le ya na le chalega but protests ek dum pristine chahiye (which has never been the case throughout history btw). We are a failed society now.

Discussion π€ The machinery behind campus politics, protests, and narrative wars in India: Connecting the dots
If you have followed Indian politics over the last decade, you have probably felt that something is fundamentally disconnected between what everyday people care about and what blows up on Twitter, in university campuses, and in international headlines.
A massive national infrastructure project gets stalled for seven years by a handful of petitions. A reform passed by Parliament leads to highways being blocked with five-star tent cities overnight. Every time an election result does not go a certain way, the entire democratic process is suddenly declared broken or rigged. Elite campuses seem to run on permanent outrage rather than research or education.
Most people dismiss this as random political drama. But once you look at the incentives, the history, and the global network backing it, you realize it is a well-oiled machinery operating on a very specific blueprint.
Here is how the entire ecosystem actually works, from theory to the Indian street.
1. The Historical Shift: From the Factory to the University
To understand what is happening today, you have to look at where this ideology came from.
Classical Marxism had a simple thesis: society is divided by economic class (workers vs capitalists), and the workers will eventually overthrow the system through revolution. In India, traditional communist parties tried this for decades. The result? They ran states like West Bengal into complete industrial de-growth, and the Naxalite armed insurgency in the tribal belts ended in blood, violence, and eventual state pushback.
Worse for them, capitalism actually delivered for the working class. When an ordinary Indian gets electricity, a smartphone, a bank account, and a shot at a private job, they do not want to tear down the system. They want to get ahead.
When the economic revolution failed, the intellectual Left shifted strategy completely. Following thinkers like Antonio Gramsci, they realized you do not take power by storming government buildings. You do it by capturing the institutions that shape culture:
- University humanities departments
- School textbook boards
- Legal advocacy groups
- English-language media desks
- Cultural academies and publishing houses
Instead of organizing factory workers, they began producing the narrative architects of the country.
2. The Incentive Structure: Who Actually Benefits?
Why does this ecosystem thrive even when it is totally out of touch with average Indians? Follow the career incentives and the money.
- The Academic Grievance Factory: Elite universities churn out thousands of graduates in sociology, gender studies, and cultural theory every year. These degrees produce almost zero market value in the hard economy. You cannot build a bridge, write software, or run a factory with them. To survive, this class has to create a massive administrative and non-profit market for itself. Their entire career depends on manufacturing permanent social conflict. If social tensions decrease, their research grants, consulting jobs, and panel invites dry up.
- The NGO Funding Complex: Billions of dollars flow globally through tax-exempt foundations, foreign aid agencies, and international philanthropic trusts. These funds do not go to groups saying "things are getting better and people are finding jobs." Grants flow exclusively to organizations documenting "catastrophe," "human rights violations," and "systemic breakdown." Crisis is literally their business model.
3. How Campus Radicalization Actually Works
Look at how campus politics operates in places like JNU, Jadavpur, or Jamia. It is practically a pipeline:
- The Romantic Hook: Take an 18-year-old student who wants to do good in the world. Feed them simple, emotionally charged theories: the entire system is rotten, history is pure injustice, and you are part of a noble vanguard fighting for the oppressed. It gives young people instant moral superiority without requiring them to build a business, pass a competitive technical exam, or create real value.
- The Anarchist Pipeline: The university campus acts as an insulated bubble. Radical student unions, radical faculty, and activist collectives cross-pollinate. When an issue surfaces anywhere in the country, these campuses serve as the rapid-deployment force for protests, sloganeering, and media management.
- Zero Accountability: The student leaders get international fellowships, media profiles, and political tickets. The ordinary students who get swept up in the frenzy end up with police cases, missed semesters, and ruined career prospects.
4. The Indian Reality: The "Street Veto" and Lawfare
The central crisis for the Indian Left is brutal: they cannot win the median Indian voter.
The median voter in India wants basic governance: tap water, concrete roads, national security, digital welfare delivery, and cultural dignity. They repeatedly vote for stability and growth over revolutionary rhetoric.
Because they cannot win legislative majorities, the ecosystem relies on two alternative levers to rule from the outside:
A. The Street Veto
If you cannot defeat a bill in Parliament, you take hostage of public infrastructure.
- Look at the Farm Laws: A law intended to give farmers the option to bypass middlemen was twisted into "corporates will steal your land." Within days, national highways entering the capital were barricaded with industrial-scale logistics: Wi-Fi routers, high-capacity kitchens, and legal aid desks.
- Look at the CAA: A law granting fast-tracked citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from bordering countries was spun as a plot to disenfranchise Indian citizens, leading to coordinated blockades like Shaheen Bagh.
The playbook is simple: provoke the state into using force so you can scream "police brutality" to the global media, or force the government to yield, thereby neutralizing the authority of an elected Parliament.
B. Lawfare and Sabotaging Infrastructure
When protests do not work, the battle moves to the courtrooms through Public Interest Litigations (PILs):
- The Sterlite Copper Plant in Tuticorin: A plant that produced nearly 40% of India's copper was shut down after violent protests driven by foreign-funded NGOs citing environmental issues. The result? India went from being a net exporter of copper to a massive net importer, costing the country billions in foreign exchange.
- The Aarey Metro Car Shed in Mumbai: Blocked for years by activist legal suits, forcing millions of commuters to choke in traffic while project costs exploded by thousands of crores, only for the courts to eventually clear it anyway.
- Bullet Trains, Ports, and Dams: Almost every strategic project (from the Vizhinjam Port in Kerala to expressways in Maharashtra) faces the exact same network of activist-lawyers petitioning courts to stall development under the banner of environmentalism or local displacement.
5. Delegitimizing Democracy: The "If We Lose, It's Rigged" Playbook
Watch the psychological loop every election season:
- When the opposition wins a state like Karnataka, Telangana, or Himachal, the system is functional and the mandate of the people is celebrated.
- The moment the ruling party wins a mandate (like Haryana, Maharashtra, or the general elections), the narrative flips instantly. The Election Commission is accused of being compromised, EVMs are called hackable, and voters are labeled "uneducated, brainwashed, and communal."
They simply cannot process the fact that working-class citizens might genuinely prefer highways, direct benefit transfers, and national assertiveness over their progressive theories. To protect their intellectual ego, they call India an "Electoral Autocracy." The message is clear: Democracy is only legitimate when our side wins.
6. The Foreign Narrative Laundromat
The most effective weapon is the closed-loop information pipeline between domestic activists and Western institutions:
- A partisan digital outlet or NGO in Delhi publishes a heavily slanted report alleging democratic backsliding or religious crisis.
- Western think-tanks and ranking bodies (like V-Dem, Freedom House, or the Global Hunger Index) lift those domestic claims and drop India's ranking below war-torn dictatorships.
- The domestic ecosystem then cites those exact Western rankings on television and in Parliament: "Look, international experts say we are worse than Sudan!"
- These indices are subsequently used by lobbying firms in Washington, London, and Brussels to push for trade friction, human rights inquiries, and investment hesitation against India.
It is narrative arbitrage: manufacture outrage locally, launder it through a Western institution, and import it back as "objective global consensus."
The Bottom Line
This ideology remains powerful because it wraps itself in the language of empathy, justice, and defending the weak. It sounds deeply romantic to anyone with a conscience, especially young people who haven't yet seen how the real world functions.
The fundamental flaw is that it has zero theory of wealth creation. It views society as a zero-sum game where nobody creates value, and the only task is to forcibly slice up an existing pie through endless quotas, administrative controls, and grievance-mongering.
When you see through the noise, the pattern becomes unmistakable. It is not about helping the poor or strengthening democracy; it is an entrenched institutional class fighting desperately to maintain control over a country that has decisively moved on from them.
