Is it possible with Alexithymia, that Other emotions Shield the true emotion Underneath, like Depression for instance?

If I had to name, the emotional state that I can identify and recognize the most ...it would be Worry, Anxiety, and Depression.

Depression could also be disappointment, dread, some way I'm having resistance to something I know I have to do, that I don't want to do, some way I'm stuck. Or some issue that I know needs attention, but I don't know exactly how to work it out, and I know I ca'nt do it by myself, and I dread the powerlessness and confusion around it, then get depressed.

But it's the same, Dread, depression, anxiety, worry. And even though some people might argue, well if you concentrate on addressing the problem and stop worrying then you won't worry. Yeah, no. I just find something else to worry about, something along the lines of if I don't , can't figure out what's behind the depression, some unmet emotional need, because it all goes through a filter in my head that reads " I know I need to do something here, to address an emotion I'm unfamiliar with having , and because i"m just confused, I'm stuck "....it circles back to depression.

“I’m Trying. I Just Can’t Find the Words.” | EmotionSnap

You finally ask for help.

Someone asks what you’re feeling.

You don’t know. That’s part of why you’re there.

But the questions keep coming, and somehow you end up apologizing for not having an answer.

We made this short film about that moment.

Disclosure: I’m part of the team behind EmotionSnap. It’s a self-reflection tool that gives hard-to-name feelings a little monster shape, offering a starting point for exploring words that feel closer.

Not a diagnosis. Not a replacement for therapy. And not a promise that naming something makes it disappear.

The film is fictional. It depicts one difficult interaction—not every therapist.

We wanted to make room for something simple:

“I’m trying” and “I don’t know” can both be true.

Does the scene feel recognizable, or is there something we missed?
