Hi all, I just received these new Indy boots with commando soles. I was checking over the boots for any defects, and I noticed the left boot ‘wobbles’ when on flat ground (video attached). I wasn’t sure if this was sign of a manufacturing defect? This is much less pronounced on the right boot. Thanks.

Hoping to break these in soon. Oddly enough was able to purchase these about a week apart a few months ago.

Note: Indy’s factory seconds - only defect is on the waist of the footbed inside the left boot. Nothing noticeable on the outside of the boots. I wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to get them.

I know this has been asked before, but most questions are a few years old. I have some really nice 405s. But I don't trust these laces to last. What do you all think are the best replacements?

What’s out there for sale?

Any women wear Alden boots or shoes? My wife has a hard time finding comfortable, high quality footwear, especially because she has wide feet and high insteps (she's between a men's D and E on brannock). I ordered her a pair of Alden Indy 405s because I think it would be cute to match my 403s. Looking for any insights on how to shop for men's shoes for her that she can style in a feminine way (aligning with her usual aesthetic)

For sale Alden shell cordovan tassel loafers excellent condition. I stored them with woodlore shoe trees. There is a little bit of sun fading on the top of them but the store assured me that would go away with polish. I liked it so I didn’t bother. Fresh coat of saphire renovator on them. Box and dust bags included.

Toying with picking up my first pair. I do not work in an office and just want something comfy for after work or days off when I don't feel like sneakers. I don't think I like the Barrie last.

My Thurman last Nicks are EE but my Red Wings are D. I had Leo Last Grant Stone Diesels and not a fan but they mostly fit ok. They were D but my left pinky toe is smushed.

Looking to buy from adelante shoe co, anyone wear their boots/shoes long enough to have been resoled? I’m concerned about the memory foam insole, is it removable?

Looking to add a new alden shoe into my rotation for snowy/rainy days. Already have the 6243f, 986 and the 3403, so moving away from loafers for this next pair.

I'm after something on a commando sole, or really anything that isn't leather. I'd been looking at chukkas, but most of them come on leather soles. They'd be nice, but I don't want to walk around on snow and wet ground in leather soles or even a suede like material.

For context, I already have L.L. Bean boots for the snowy days and a pair of Red Wings as my rugged heritage option. What I want is something a little dressier, like a color 8 version of a boot, if that makes sense or something that fills in that fall/winter boot/shoe area. Maybe even an Norwegian Split toe option.

I'm also on the fence about leather vs shell vs. suede for this. For those of you wearing Aldens through the winter, what would you recommend? Model numbers welcome. Thanks!

Never liked the Kudu - the chunky sole it seems to always have looks terrible in my opinion

The molded site has this make up with cork and I’m now intrigued - it changes the profile so much - much better

I have a couple of brown pairs of boots in rotation from other brands and was looking for a pair of black boots. I have the 986 loafers and have really come to love shell and thought if I was going to save up for a pair of black boots, getting a nice pair of shell boots would be really cool. I looked at a few models that have the commando sole and the black jumpers really stood out to me.

Anyone have these boots (or any similar models on this last) and have thoughts on them?

I've already heard I should size down by 1/2. And in the past, with other brands, I've needed to use tongue pads for the smaller foot. Not sure I ever nailed those sizings though and don't want to use them as a baseline here.

Feeling the pressure to nail this, since it's an investment, and I'm in LA with no Alden store in sight, and since stock goes out so quickly.

Ordering a backordered size from Shoe Mart regardless... anything I should know about that timing? Planning to give them a call tomorrow with my sizing concerns as well, but though I'd get reddit's opinion.

Should I order a 10.5C since my largest foot (Left) is an 11C? and then roll with tongue pads on the right foot?

Including photos with the Brannock. And crew socks on. If I had to guess, I'll be wearing mine 95% of the time without socks on, so wanting to factor that in if it's relevant.

I’m looking for a pair of Alden 990 or 9901, ideally in size 7E or 7.5E.

For reference, I usually wear US 7.5 in Nike sneakers and UK 6.5 in Tod’s shoes. I have wide feet with a high instep, so finding the right fit can be a bit tricky. Even my UK 6.5 Tod’s are a little long, but I wear that size mainly to accommodate the width of my feet.

Since the 990 and 9901 are built on the Barrie last, I’m wondering whether 7E or 7.5E would be a better fit for my foot shape.

I’d really appreciate any sizing advice, especially from anyone with similar feet!

Also, if anyone has a pair in either size they’re looking to sell, please let me know. Thanks!

A "pair" of unworn 560 tassels purchased secondhand from the original owner, who got them at the Dunham's of Maine closeout sale in ~1987.

When I say "pair," they are technically a "pair" of 560 tassels, but not each others corresponding pair according to their date codes. One of the shoes left the factory about 6 months after the other, from 1980 to 1981.

The finishing on these are superb, and the SPI on the sole also appears slightly denser than modern Alden's.

Interestingly enough, the insole does not have the typical Alden stamp on it. Due to the age it is quite dry, so I will need to condition it.

My Brannock is measured at 10B, but the Aberdeen in 10B was too tight in the forefoot and pinched my toes. 10C is definitely correct, maybe a touch loose in the heel and instep.

As the title suggests, I was curious how you guys clean your suede Aldens? I know the general suede erasers and brass/gum brushes one should have, but I was curious if you guys also use stuff like Saphir Invulner, conditioning spray or if that stuff is mostly a gimmick? Love to hear your routine/thoughts as I also think it would be helpful to others!
