r/AdventureBike is recruiting mods

I started r/AdventureBike in 2014, then forgot about it for some time. After a while, I was surprised to see it start to get some activity, and in the last couple of years, it has grown quite a bit.

In the last couple of years, my adventures have shifted towards the aquatic kind, so it is time to hand this sub over to new mods who can be more active in it's growth.

If you are interested in becoming a mod, please apply to using the link above.

Comparing apples and oranges: Transalp e-clutch or Versys 900 SE LT

I'm hoping to be in the market for a new bike in the next year or two and these two bikes are at the top of my list for different reasons.

Versys:

  • Radar cruise control (massive W for me and I've always wanted a bike with this feature)
  • Comes fully loaded out of the factory
  • Inline 4 smoothness for longer rides
  • Tubeless tires
  • Likely the better frame for 2 up riding

Transalp:

  • E-clutch (Will be great for traffic, off road, or long days of riding when I'm physically tired)
  • Lighter/Off road capability
  • More fuel efficient
  • Possibly more comfortable seat

When selecting add ons for the Transalp, getting it equipped the same as the Versys (center stand, sidecases, hand guards, heated grips, belly pan, fog lights, cruise control etc) these two bikes are almost exactly the same price.

I enjoy long distance touring and taking in scenery while enjoying twisty roads, but I also have a lot of experience riding dirt bikes and recently had the itch to try a mid size ADV like the Transalp for of road parks and BDRs etc. I'm just not sure realistically how often I will be able to go off road and if it's worth the tradeoffs.

Has anybody ridden both the Kawi 900 platform and Transalp that can comment from experience on how they feel? I've never been on either.

What's your experience with tailgating on Irish roads.

I'm a big bloke (6foot5) and I'm driving a big bike (R1200GSA). Point being, I'm pretty visible to other road users. I mostly use dual carriageway lanes correctly by only using the outside lane for overtaking. However, occasionally I end up staying in that lane for minutes while I pass the slower traffic in the inside lane. I do the speed limit, sometimes 10kph over yet I still get tailgated by cars.

Last night I was doing 110KMH on the N11 (in a 100Kph zone) in the outside lane while I overtook a line of cars.

An A class Merc was right up my ass the entire time, jerking left and right to let me know they wanted to get past. I continued to overtake the last few cars before indicating left to get out of the way. Thankfully I used the life saver move because just I was changing lane, they aggressively dropped into the inside lane to over take on the inside. If I hadn't glanced a third time, I would have been taken out, at speed. It was all totally pointless as they were taking the next exit which was 500M after they nearly hit me..

This is third time I've been tailgated in the last couple of weeks, anyone else experiencing this???

What are the best adventure bikes in the $7,000–$10,000 AUD range? And are they too tall for someone who’s 170 cm?

Touring Gear: Alpinestars Cusco Drystar Jacket

Does anyone own this jacket? How does it perform in spring, summer, and autumn?

I’d mainly use it for weekend rides up into the Romagna Apennines in Italy, as well as for some summer trips, possibly to the Alps or further north. (No off-roads, I own a Suzuki SV-7GX)

I’m not sure whether to get it with the standard hard back and chest protectors or go with the Tech-Air 3 V2 Canvas airbag worn over the jacket.

I initially looked at Dainese, but I’ve read quite a few comments about their quality declining over the past few years, so I started looking at what Alpinestars has to offer instead.

Any feedback or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

That feeling when the helmet goes on 🤙

We spend a lot of time talking about bikes, tyres, routes and kit. But rarely about the thing that actually keeps us riding.
That strange feeling when the helmet goes on and everything else seems to lose its importance.

Checking out Cycle Trader it looked like there were As many 2026’s for sale as were all other years combined. As a group, there were a LOT of 2026’s for sale. Any thoughts as to why?

Tire recommendations for an across-the-world ride?

Tire recommendations for an across the world journey. I will ride across Europe (mostly tarmac with some sections of the TET), Türkiye, Central Asia, China, South East Asia and Indonesia. I imagine it will be predominantly road riding however sections such as the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan will be significantly rougher.

KTM 890 Adventure R and Aprilia Tuareg Rally

Hey guys! Has anybody owned or does anybody own these bikes? As always, there are pluses and minuses, but for me the most important thing is how the bike handles and how fun it is on forest trails, gravel roads, technical tight sections and in everyday city commuting. We don't have many rocks and hills here – it's flat, sandy, muddy and gravelly. But sometimes I need to do longer 100-200 km stretches on the highway, and maybe once a year a 1-2 week Euro trip. (I know this favors the KTM, but it's probably manageable with the Aprilia too.)

I have tried the Tuareg standard version and the KTM 790 standard, so I don't have an exact comparison of the bikes I'm actually torn between.

From the first 1–2 hour demo rides, I really liked the KTM's electronics – you can easily slip the rear tire in corners without worries, and it felt like an enduro bike. You sit on it, not in it. The handlebars were lower, which for me (186 cm) meant better ergonomics. But I must admit that in the short time I had on those demos, I somehow felt more comfortable on the Tuareg.
OK, it has better suspension as standard, but I somehow wanted to play with it more, do some small jumps, go over small logs, etc. Unfortunately, I didn't take exactly the same route with the KTM, but it still felt like a bigger bike and not as easy to manage. Is it the same with the 890 R / Tuareg Rally editions? I don't know, but if you do, please enlighten me :)

No right and wrong aswers like always but it would be interesting to know :)
