Why is homework never like the lectures or the books?
Hi,
I am in my last year of my accounting degree, was doing my hw and found myself wondering if everyone else has classes and homework varying significantly. I have found that my university teaches the lectures rather theoretically based compared to the procedural homework (my university uses McGraw-Hill for the homework).
This drives me nuts as I end up with a great understanding of the theory but struggle to do the homework questions because they are in a format that I do not recognize. They also have 46 million different parts, require that I know the structure of the statements when they aren't explicitly discussed in lectures and the textbook has few to no examples of the specific format that they want.
I get that there won't always be a guide for everything in life and in school, but it is a bit discouraging for students who actually want to learn because it seems like no matter what I study for or I try to learn the content, the homework is completely out of left field and the exams are even worse.
Does anyone else run into this at their school? Also, are any of your professors teaching differently? Also, is this representative of what the career field is going to be like?
