I'm 35 years old and have been unemployed most my adult life- AMA

So I recently turned 35 and after the doom and gloom with my own job history, as well as seeing what doctors, engineers and other people are going through, I thought Id do an AMA.

So I graduated from university at the ripe old age of 21 in the UK (England) with a STEM degree but was unemployed for a large chunk since then, including 13 of the last 22 months (and been unemployed for almost 6 months). Ive been in a position where I have worked in many jobs in different sectors, loved and lost, seen a lot of fair and unfair stuff and met some interesting characters from all walks of life.

Feel free to ask me anything.

I went from 40k a year to windfall of 500k to completely broke AMA

My parents both passed away within two years. I got two lump sums totaling near 500k. I invested half and lost a lot. I withdrew too soon before the stock market took off. My wife forbade me from investing after that for the second windfall, which if I had, I’d be a millionaire now. But she went on shopping sprees and blew the money. It’s a long story and basically, I’m in a deep depression now and completely broke. No power, no water. I am so far in debt. It’s crazy how things can transition. I make 14 an hour as a maintenance worker. And in my free time, I put in applications constantly. I’m kind of remote, so the jobs are hard to come by. I’ve been in a bad place, and when I had money, I lent it out to everyone I knew needed it, including people on Reddit because I had been there before. I have 10k out there. When I message them, I get no response. I’ve never been suicidal before and won’t be. But I can understand now how people can get that way.

I've been a medical mystery twice in my 18 years of life. AMA

The first time was when I was two. I was having kidney issues and doctors had all these theories, none of which had a good prognosis. My parents were told I would be dead by seven, but that they needed to run a bunch of tests to be sure. A month of tests later and they can't figure it out, but they rule that I'm seemingly not dying and send me on my way. I still have the weird lab results I did when I was two, but I'm very much alive and mostly not ill.

The second time I was 18. Came in with months of worsening symptoms and after running labs and scans most of my organs had something wacky going on with them. However once they ruled out cancer there was nothing that explained everything and I was told to keep monitoring but that I would probably be fine.

I have Epidermolysis Bullosa, also known as Butterfly Skin 🦋 AMA

Tomorrow is the start of EB Awareness Week 🦋 which aims to raise awareness for a rare skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa. This is also known as "butterfly skin" due to how fragile our skin is.

Ask me anything; I am an open person and would love to answer some random questions people may have, especially to give the kind of info that can't be found via a Google search about it

I’m 50+ year old American GenX-er who has failed at almost everything career-wise. AMA

I had ideals, I had hopes, I had dreams. I took risks. They all failed. I’m even well-educated. I’m like that de-motivated poster: for every winner, there are dozens and dozens of losers, odds are you’re one of them. If you’re young and have questions about the road ahead, I might be able to help. But what do I know?

Egyptian woman AMA

I am an Egyptian woman, 18 years old, living in Egypt since I was born, and I have never left this country before

This is strange because while browsing this group I found even stranger things, like that girl who donated her liver, and that boy who was stung by a scorpion and yet survived to tell us about it, and that old man who lived to be 105 years old... I'm just an Egyptian girl

Perhaps I should have given it a more exciting title, like "I am the Egyptian girl who lives in Giza and has never visited the pyramids AMA."

I'm participating in an intensive outpatient psychiatric program. AMA!

Hello all!

I know posts about specific diagnoses are not allowed, but my post is more meant to focus on the experience of this treatment program! A few months ago I was referred to an IOP (intensive outpatient program) for severe OCD, bipolar disorder, ASD and ADHD! The program is a mix of CBT and DBT psychoeducation, schema therapy, core beliefs work, general health education, and group therapy!

I attend the most intensive stream of the program, from 9:00am til 4:00pm on the longest days, but we usually get out by 3:00pm so long as we don't have any individual appointments. Each week I have to meet with the psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and social worker, who all play different roles in my treatment! There's also an on-staff nurse, I have a personal psychiatrist and psychologist as well!

Anyways, AMA about the program and I'll answer as best as I can!!

I’m a rhinoplasty surgeon in Beverly Hills. Ask me anything about rhinoplasty

I’m Dr. Nima Shemirani, a double board certified facial plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. I’ve spent the last 16 years focused almost entirely on rhinoplasty, and these days I do about one a day.

I see a lot of misinformation about nose jobs on TikTok and Instagram, so I figured I’d open this up and answer whatever people actually want to know. Some things I get asked all the time:

- Will people be able to tell I had work done?

- Why does swelling take a full year to go away?

- What makes a revision rhinoplasty so much harder?

- Is “preservation” rhinoplasty actually better or just a trend?

- Can I keep my ethnic features and still change my nose?

I can’t give personal medical advice here since I haven’t examined you, but I’m happy to answer general questions, explain how things work, and share what I’ve seen over the years. Ask away.

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist, AMA

I work for one of the largest school districts in the USA. I work with students ages 3–22 across a huge range of abilities and support needs, from mild learning differences to significant intellectual disabilities and complex medical needs.

I would estimate that I’ve worked with about:
-15-20 different schools (elem, middle and high)
-200-300 students with ASD (all levels)
-Another 200-300 students with varying disabilities (DS, PWS, FAS, DiGeorge, Rett, Angelmans, TBI, HIE, CP, FXS, many many more)
-20-30 self contained classrooms (Mild, Moderate, Severe, blended, Autism, Behavior Support, etc)
-over 1,000 IEP meetings attended
-I am also part of a multidisciplinary team that determines “educational diagnoses” for Autism
-I have navigated the special education process as both a parent and an IEP team member

I’m happy to answer questions about school-based OT, special education, neurodiversity, accessibility, and working with students with a wide range of needs. (Also love a good chat on pencil grasps). I’ll keep everything general and protect student privacy of course.

I'm 6 days post op from having a successful "Stoma Reversal". Ask Me Anything

For context, I've had the stoma since January 16th 2026, following a gunshot wound that went through my large intestine, and came out my "left upper buttox". What an experience. Spent four months in county jail immediately following my surgery. Had a lot of complications along the way, but here I am today. I initially felt alone, but soon found out that there is a support system for folks with these issues. Stoma reversals are unfortunately not a common surgical procedure as it comes with its own set of risk. Some folks simply choose to live with the stoma because it's not worth the potential complications during/following the surgery.

~10 months ago, I got a breast reduction. AMA!

I am 22 years old, I went from a E cup to a small D/large C cup. Insurance covered it all, miraculously. I think there’s a weird stigma around breast reduction and I am here to answer any and all questions (short of posting before and after pictures, so don’t bother asking that lol). Ask away!

I had the equivalent of an exorcism performed on me when I was a child. AMA

My mother had an exorcism performed on me when I was two years old in Oregon because of her beliefs and experiences. I want to tell her story, although I cannot promise the absolute truth. She had her own mental health struggles throughout her life.

Hey everyone, I've been having health issues specifically with my legs and have seen the outside world just to go to the doctors for a year now. It's weird and isolating and I don't see people but I like seeing people talk about it online. AMA!

this isn't a pity post, it's just that compared to a lot of people I live a very weird sequestered life and don't see the outside world at all and can't walk properly. so if that is interesting to ask about please do! idk if anyone wants to know about what it's like but please go for it. I like seeing other people talk about not being able to go out and walk properly and all, and I live online so much because it's the only way to interact

I've been a bridal stylist for almost 10 years. Can't sleep, so AMA!

I’ve been working as a bridal stylist for almost a decade, and I can’t sleep tonight, so I figured this might be fun to do again!

I’ve worked with hundreds of brides, in one of the largest and one of the most well known bridal shops in the country, i've seen just about every family dynamic imaginable, and helped brides with everything from finding their dream dress to navigating some pretty wild appointment situations.

Whether you’re currently shopping for a wedding dress, planning to start, curious about what really goes on behind the scenes at a bridal salon, or just want to hear some industry secrets, ask away!

I’ll answer as honestly as I can (without identifying any brides, of course). I'll keep going until I crash. Nothing is too silly or stupid to ask!
AMA!
