OTS, Reserve, Guard, enlisting, joining another service, government contracting, civil service, the list goes on and on.
I truly sympathize with each of you who are about to have your dreams turned upside down. Don't give up! Even if it's not with the Air Force, there are so many opportunities out there to chase. You are capable of great things, and all it takes is a single step in the right direction.
Good luck. God-speed, cadets.

Joining Is my plan to join AFROTC as a transfer student and eventually become an airline pilot realistic?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently attending community college in California and planning to transfer to a four-year university in Fall 2027.
My long-term goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. I’m considering joining AFROTC, competing for a pilot slot, completing Air Force pilot training, serving my military commitment, and eventually transitioning to the airlines.
Sacramento State (Detachment 088) is currently my preferred university, although I’m also considering other California universities with AFROTC programs.
I’m trying to evaluate the feasibility of this plan before making major educational and financial commitments.
I have several questions:
As a transfer student, how many years should I expect to spend in AFROTC before commissioning?
How difficult is it to earn a pilot slot, and what can I do now to become more competitive?
How important is the detachment I choose?
Does attending a smaller or larger detachment affect pilot selection opportunities?
Are there common obstacles for older transfer students, particularly regarding age requirements and commissioning timelines?
For someone whose ultimate goal is to become an airline pilot, would you recommend the AFROTC route over civilian flight training?
If you followed a similar path, what would you do differently?
I’m not looking for guarantees. I’d especially appreciate feedback from current or former AFROTC cadets, cadre members, military pilots, and people who transitioned from military aviation to the airlines.
Thanks for any advice or firsthand experiences.

Question Active Duty While Up For PSP
Not sure if anyone has any insight to this, it’s a pretty unique situation. Currently a cadet and active duty enlisted on last 5 months of contract and on skillbridge/ terminal leave till end of March.
I know guard and reserve cadets must have a conditional release on file or a waiver when they go up for PSP. In my case, I will still be active duty and not have my DD214 just yet when close out date comes so I’m not sure if I’d technically also need a release form or waiver.
Cadre obviously know and haven’t said anything, but is this gonna cause any issues come PSP time?

Question 3 vs 4 years in afrotc
As a graduate student interested in completing AFROTC on a three-year timeline, how much of a disadvantage would I be compared with cadets following the traditional four-year program? Are there any subjects or skills I could study or practice independently before starting to help me prepare?

Question Airforce Senior airman/E-4 to Army officer is it worth it? WOFT? AFROTC?
Im thinking about commissioning through army ROTC once my contract is done. in a 2-year program they have if you have the allotted credits taken, which is 55 credits.
Ive also heard of WOFT “street to seat”
Or possibly taking AFROTC route after my contract is done
Both task would get done after my contract is done just looking for some feedback
Army is faster just 2 years due to my credits already had
AFROTC I know ill be able to skip 100 year not so sure about 200.
June 2028 is my EOS 🫡.
appreciative of any insight
GOD BLESS

Quick question. At what percent are GPA, PFA, Ranking, and PCSM weighed when going up for the rated Board? And how do you know that because I can't seem to find any specific information online.

The Hooorah Mission
Hey Everyone,
I’m going up for top 2 next semester and was wondering if this mission statement needed any additions. I want to focus on the High T shift necessary for our war fighters.
“To forge savage, high-testosterone warrior-leaders who reek of sweat, live in the pain cave, grunt through every rep, and treat weakness as a personal enemy. To build an ego earned through blood, sweat, and iron discipline. Airmen who attack complacency, dominate PT, outwork the competition, and thrive when everyone else breaks. We forge hard-charging, chest-out, chin-up killers of mediocrity who embrace the suck, feed on adversity, and bring relentless aggression to every formation, every mission, and every battlespace. No soft standards. No weak excuses. No quit. Earn your place. Dominate the standard. Win the fight.”
Thoughts?

Question How do I report an expunged traffic ticket for civil involvements section for the HSSP?
For some context, I lost my copy of the ticket as the it happened a year ago. My case was dismissed and if it helps, I was a minor when it happened. I went to the courthouse in which the trial happened and got a paper basically saying that there was no record found when I asked for one. So would it be okay to submit it for the copy of ticket section?

Thinking about switching to Army ROTC
Hey everyone, I’m currently an uncontracted AS250 graduate student. I’m facing a major logistical and financial dilemma with my current branch, and I wanted to see if anyone else has faced this or if my plan to switch to Army ROTC next semester makes total sense.
Here is the situation:
I am in a 36-credit hour MBA program. My university Graduate Assistantship (GA) pays 100% of my tuition, BUT it requires me to register for exactly 9 credits per semester—no more, no less.
In AFROTC, the upperclassman POC block is 4 credits (3-credit lecture + 1-credit LLAB). This only leaves me 5 credits of space for my actual graduate courses. Because grad classes are strictly 3 credits each, I can only take one MBA class a term without going over my cap. If I take my 2 required MBA classes (6 credits) plus the 4-AFROTC credits, I hit 10 credits, which violates my GA contract and forces me to pay tuition out of pocket. My department gave me a one-time exception for this fall, but they will not do it for the rest of my degree.
If I stay in AFROTC, I either have to drag my MBA out for extra years or pay thousands out of pocket to cover the credit overages. The Army ROTC Alternative: I walked down the hall and looked at the Army ROTC curriculum. Their Advanced Course is strictly 3 credits a semester (2-credit lecture + 1-credit lab). If I switch to Army next semester, the math works out perfectly: 6 MBA credits + 3 Army ROTC credits = exactly 9 credits. My GA contract stays 100% satisfied automatically, and I pay $0 out of pocket.
Furthermore, because I have a tight timeline to graduate by Spring 2028, I can enter the Army's 2-year program next semester, contract immediately on a campus scholarship (using the Room & Board option to get a $5,000 cash refund a semester since my GA pays tuition), head to Basic Camp this summer to clear my underclassman prerequisites, and commission as an End-of-Camp officer in August 2028. My undergrad is in Information Systems and I have corporate cybersecurity internship experience, so my ultimate goal is the Cyber Corps (which the Army utilizes Talent-Based Branching for).
Am I missing any blind spots here, or is switching to Army ROTC the only logical move to protect my graduate funding and graduate on time? Has anyone else had to switch branches purely because of graduate school credit hour limits?
Appreciate any insight.

Question Do I still aim to be a pilot?
Here’s my situation: community college student transferring to U-M Ann Arbor for electrical or mechanical engineering in the winter semester of my sophomore year (1.5 years into college). I know to be eligible for joining the detachment, you need 3 years left of college, which is why i’d ask if we could adjust my graduation timeline for 3 years.
After finding out if I’m even eligible, I’d go through all of the standard steps like field training, getting my AFOQT Pilot score, etc. before finding out if I earned a pilot slot or not.
My main question is if I make it all the way to that step, committing to either 4 years of ground service or 10 years of being a pilot, and DONT get the slot, what would be the chances I’d get an engineering related role like developmental engineer?
Obviously the engineering job market is pretty cooked, so to waste 4 years in the military in an unrelated role would make it much harder to enter civilian engineering after the air force, even if I do the standard things throughout college like internships/ co-ops, etc.

Question Dropping out of AFROTC for the second time.
Long story short, I dropped out last year since a family member passed away. I took a break and focused on my mental health. I was really looking forward to coming back to AFROTC. Still, since it’s my fourth month here, I didn't expect to I selected for the accelerated nursing program with a scholarship outside of community college, which will take only 2.5 years to earn my bachelor's degree. Moreover, I got to skip classes or clinicals since I already have a license or experience.
It would be a shame if I drop out a second time and do OTS. For the record, I’m currently an AS100 and finishing my science classes. How would y'all feel about my situation right now?
