Sunday Drive
Met up with my buddies at Sunday Motor Co for breakfast. We hit some back roads then split. I wanted to keep going so I made my way to the Hawks Nest. 10/10 day. Saw 3 other 944s

I have an 87 Turbo with a rebuilt Evergreen turbo and a chip. Tonight I was driving home and got into the left turn lane, downshifted to 2nd to slow down and then changed my mind. I was at about 3k RPMs and accelerated out of the lane to continue straight.
The car felt normal with the turbo spooling then kicking in, but after a moment I got a sudden boost that definitely wasn’t normal. The car surprised me with more torque and power than I’m used to and the pedal wasn’t even all the way to the floor. It felt awesome! It mellowed out and went back to normal as I shifted into 3rd and beyond. I wasn’t able to duplicate it again the rest of the way home even under wide open throttle.
The car drives great and the rebuilt Turbo really pulls, but those few moments tonight were a different level.
Any thoughts on what could explain this? I don’t think it’s my imagination. I don’t rag my car, but I’m also not a stranger to letting it eat either.

My original DME is fine and the car runs great with it. But, I figured since it’s always good to have a second DME, I’d level up to the F9 solid state DME. It’s runs like total shit with the F9 relay. Jumping between nearly stalling out to recovering and back again. What gives? Did I simply end up with a lemon relay?

I realize it wasn't safe to take that video but had to document it.

A bunch of maintenance caught up. I’m glad this project is almost finished. This started as a water pump/timing belt replacement. It turned into several broken bolts, new coolant hoses from Lindsey Racing. As well as new J Boot, and intercooler hoses from Lindsey Racing. When I bought this car the timing belt had less than 1k miles on it, I looked at the records to find out it was 10 years old. So I knew I didn’t have a choice. The spiral into what to replace could’ve been never ending. I chose to sort what I could. I wanted to make a good driver for the next owner. The Satin Black Metallic color has really grown on me. I’m hoping to list the car in the Spring. It hasn’t been fun, but I bought it for therapy, and it’s done its job.

Howdy folks
Will be soon wrapping up the main engine work for my project 951. I've got 2 connectors at the end of the topside wiring harness and one of them I know goes to the AFM. The other one I have no idea. This car has had a Rogue Tuning MAF/MAP conversion kit installed so the AFM is no longer in and I've never had it, so I don't know for sure. Pics attached. Also if anyone has a wiring harness map they found or made, that would be extremely helpful. Thanks guys!

Who here has dealt with rewiring their fuse box? Currently have the fuse box apart to clean and mainly clean corrosion. But the rats nest of wiring is triggering, especially the aftermarket wires someone else has installed. How did you go about fixing the mess?

I’m currently running at 11psi (pretty much stock boost) with the Lindsey racing dual port wastage. How much boost can I run with the rest of the vehicle stock?

Hi all, I just finished rebuilding my power steering rack for my early ‘85 944 and while putting it back together I must’ve re-installed the pinyon incorrectly, because I can’t get it all the way down and I also can’t get it back out. I believe the metal “washer” (not sure if it’s called a washer, but the first metal ring that sits on top of the pinyon, not the second one) will not budge. I’ve tried heating it up with a heat gun, prying out from the bolt holes, etc. and cannot get it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Last November my son and I got a 944 project car. It was in great shape, so it's become less of a project car and more of a “we do fun stuff together” car. The big things we've tackled so far are: manual steering rack conversion, new head unit wiring, front and rear speakers, new front seat position switches and motors, hood pad glue removal, oil pressure sender, exhaust, and starting to address the hatch delamination (surely I’m forgetting twenty things). 944fest was a highlight of the year so far. This winter we’ll tackle the fuel lines and suspension.
As extra fun, we've been making swag. It started as “let’s make a custom shirt to wear to 944fest”. But we couldn't stop there. My son (16) named our car Midas. Being a branding guy, I took that and ran with it. So far we've created three different shirts, stickers, and a Halloween season shirt dropping on Monday. It's not a side gig, it's not a money-grab, it's just a fun way to celebrate our love for the Porsche 944 and leverage my craft as a designer to have some fun.
Here are a few photos of what we've been cooking up. This car has already brought so many awesome memories to our house.
Here's our Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/midas.944

Getting around to doing some well overdue maintenance on my 86 NA according to the previous owner the timing belt was last replaced in 1997 so it’s definitely a ticking time bomb so just looking for some help on picking a good quality kit for belts rollers and water pump, Engine number m44/08 and also a guide for installation and weather i need to get a flywheel lock or if there is another way to keep it from rotating, cheers guys

First time doing my timing belts on my 86 turbo and I’ve run into a problem and can’t seem to figure out a solution.
I have my belt back on and I’m trying to tension it properly however the issue I’m running into is if I tension it to spec I am unable to move the water pump by hand even a little bit, it.
If I loosen it enough to be able to barely turn it by hand then the tension tool indicates the belt is too loose.
Has anyone run into this issue before, if so what was the solution? I’m starting to wonder if the water pump (uro brand) might have a larger pulley on it which is skewing the the tension, or maybe I’m just missing something.

I’m currently working on reproducing the original Eckel roof rack using 3D scanning, CAD and forged carbon fibre.
The goal is to recreate the original design as closely as possible, since finding these roof racks, especially in complete condition, can be quite difficult nowadays.
The project is still a work in progress, but I’ve been considering the possibility of producing complete roof rack kits for other 924/944 owners.
Before taking that idea any further, I wanted to check whether there would actually be enough interest in the community.
Would a complete reproduction roof rack kit be something you’d be interested in? I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts and feedback!

1985.1 944 NA
Was just out on a test drive when it suddenly started surging and shut off. When I tried to start it again it was only running on 3.
What I checked:
- Timing was the first thing, flywheel and cam marks lined up. I was worried I skipped a tooth. Stuck an endoscope in each cylinder, nothing colliding.
- Compression test, each cylinder was exactly at 154.
- Cleaned distributor points and checked cables, all good.
- Spark plugs appear to be fine. It is showing to be running a little rich, but that's another issue I was working on, hence the test drive.
- Builds oil pressure as normal.
- I'm fairly certain there's fuel in it, I put in 4 gallons last week and haven't been running it enough to burn through that yet.
I was going to run a spark test and figured I'd just see what it did with the DME reinstalled. It now fires up fine, all 4 cylinders, but then shuts off. Actually very consistently; starts, idles for 1 second, shuts off. When I try to give it a little throttle to prevent it shutting off I now get a belt squeel, which was not there before. I'll take the accessory belt off to rule that out, but I don't think that would be it seeing as it's never sqeeled before just now. Also power steering isn't hooked up so it can't be that belt.
So...any thoughts before I start tearing things apart?

Hi, anyone know the correct way to route the wiring harness for the oil sending unit?

I finally pulled the trigger to carbon overlay my wing. The original concept was to do it, get everyone involved to sign the wing, then first coat. But that kinda fell apart. I'm just trying to avoid creators block as in genuinely stuck on how to do the taillights.
