Was 30 Rock the first online sitcom?
Some background facts:
- Twitter was publicly launched on July 15th, 2006
- The first episode of 30 Rock aired three months later on October 11th, 2006
- According to Wikipedia, "The tipping point for Twitter's popularity was the 2007 South by Southwest Interactive conference," during which usage increased by 300%
- The only reference to South by Southwest on 30 Rock appeared a year later, during the episode Sandwich Day
I'm struggling to hash out a coherent theory about this (sorry I didn't study TV Theory at Kentucky Mountain Bible College), but I feel that a large part of 30 Rock's uniqueness is related to the expansion of the internet during its run, specifically Twitter
Are there any other sitcoms that engaged with the wider online conversation of the day as early as 30 Rick did? Not just their own fans on isolated message boards, or making jokes about the internet, but actively participating in a two-way dialog with the internet at large
