Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - October 2026
Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.
You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Historical Matches Large Percent of Shared Ancestry
I share 0.25% of my dna with this former king of Hungary. Is that normal? It seems quite high.

Results Black Brazilian GEDmatch Results - 100% Sub Saharan African
Genetic ancestry test results of an Afro-Brazilian. The DNA test revealed something surprising: a man born in Barra do Piraí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, is 100% African. His most recent known ancestors are Brazilian. Even so, his DNA revealed no admixture in the most recent generations of his family.
This impressive genetic heritage is not an isolated case in the region. In 2022, former footballer Ramires (formerly of Chelsea and the Brazilian national team), who was also born in Barra do Piraí, took an ancestry test that showed 99% African DNA, with just 1% European ancestry.
These findings suggest that many more results like these may exist in Barra do Piraí and its surrounding areas, revealing a true stronghold of genetic preservation. The state of Rio de Janeiro is the state where the most similar results have been reported: people of African descent with no admixture from other ethnic groups.
Both of his haplogroups are of African origin. His maternal haplogroup is L2, and his paternal haplogroup is E1b1a-U290.

Results A mixed person heatmap
Below is a post from four years ago on 23&me of a person who has a very mixed ancestery and the person shared his G25 coordinate on 23&me. I generated heatmap and ancesteral breakdown using the coordinates. It gives a very good picture of where this mixed person's ancestery shows similarity to.
G25 coordinates of a sample mixed with every ethnicity on earth. First 2 are comparing modern samples and the last one is ancient samples.

DNA Relatives Trying to understand a match with a relative
I was recently on my 23andme profile and seen a close relative I haven’t seen before. On my account it says 1st cousin on my father’s side. But when my father logs onto his account this relative who should technically be their niece or nephew is not showing on his side for relatives.
And then when I look at relatives in common it shows this person is my related to my father as a half first cousin, once removed… why is 23andme not consistent with this?
Also if this is actually only a half 1st cousin shouldn’t the dna be a bit higher? I reached out to them to connect but they haven’t been active in over 6 months, we’ll see if they even respond.
Is it possible my dad’s is right, it is his half first cousin once removed and then for myself it should be half first cousin twice removed ?

Question / Help Have you met any African that had admixture within their ancestry?
It’s pretty much a general consensus that Africans have and score 100% SSA but have you met an African who wasn’t 100% SSA?

Discussion Email full of Spam
Hello, i changed the email that i was using for 23andme, in that email i received at least 20 spam trash ("offers" for weight loss, house remodeling, tax help and insurance) all of them viruses/troyans or data stealing. I thought it was for another reason because this email is very old.
I changed the email to a new one, and I'd never received spam emails in that one. Now, since im using it for 23andme, the spam emails every day are annoying.
This website/company is full of attacks of phishing. Be careful and use this with a disposable email that you have.

Discussion Which African diasporas in the Americas have the highest and lowest average African/black dna %?
I’ve heard that 91% of Haitians are over 99% African in dna, so I’d assume Haitians score the highest. I’ve also heard the average black dna in an African American is 83%. Are these generally the highest averages, if not, which ones are higher? And what are the lowest usually and in which diasporas?

Results My results! (Eastern Ohio, U.S.)
I was really surprised by my results to be honest. I had no idea that I had that much French, but it appears to all be from my father. I really wasn’t aware of the Polish much either, but it says it’s from my mother. Everything else was somewhat expected, my Scottish was a little higher than I thought I would have though

Question / Help 23andME DNA tests - $99 or $149 version - Which is needed?
I'm helping an 80 year friend find her birth child she gave up for adoption 60 years ago. We have already done the AncestryDNA test and now looking at 23andME DNA test. Does anyone know if we need the $99 or $149 version for what we're doing?

Results Phased Spanish results 🇪🇸 + hacked Ancestry + pic
My father has received his results!
We’re very impressed with how accurate the Spanish breakdown is, nearly spot-on based in our genealogy. I don’t know about the other regions, but the 0.4 Central & Eastern European is new after the phasing. Could it be just noise, through? He has none but we do have distant 100% Eastern European matches.

Question / Help Genetics confusion
All of my historical DNA matches are in Eastern Europe, some of them being as late as the 1400s, however when I look at my ancestry composition it’s an overwhelmingly majority English and Irish with not a single percent Eastern European. Were those genetics just wiped out throughout generations?

Historical Matches Historical Matches
Wondering if most people have around 32 historical matches? I don’t know what’s average, but 5-7 of them are victims of St Brice’s Day massacre (rip) that were found in a mass viking grave 🫠 then there’s a few really specific and weird ones 😂 just trying to learn what’s normal lol
