Official Announcement [LAUNCH] Polygon CDK adds Besu: launch a private Hyperledger Besu chain connected to Agglayer
Banks and financial institutions can now launch a private Besu chain through Polygon Open Money Stack, connected to other chains and their liquidity from day one.
Besu is often the first client on the list when a bank or market infrastructure provider plans a new network. The tradeoff has been that a private Besu chain starts life on its own, and moving assets to a counterparty on another chain has usually meant a separate integration per connection, often through a bridge secured by a committee of signers.
With Polygon CDK Besu, the chain runs the standard Besu client and is natively connected to Agglayer from its first block. It can move assets to and from any other chain on Agglayer, and every transfer settles against a zero-knowledge proof on Ethereum.
Picture a bank issuing tokenized deposits to corporate treasury clients. A client wants to move part of a balance into a tokenized money market fund on another chain. On an isolated network, that means redeeming for cash, moving over traditional rails, and buying back in across business days. Connected through Agglayer, the deposit token moves to the fund's chain directly as the same canonical asset, and comes back the same way.
- The institution (or consortium) runs the chain, and transaction data stays in its private infrastructure instead of being posted to Ethereum
- One canonical version of each bridged asset on every connected chain, with no wrapper per bridge
- Exposure to any other connected chain is capped by a proof, with no committee of signers
- Consortium setups are supported, so no single member can act alone
- Live and ready for production on Ethereum mainnet, with no revenue share owed to Polygon
CDK Besu joins CDK OP Stack as a way to build a Polygon CDK chain. One thing to know: the proof covers bridge accounting, not every transaction inside the chain. Teams that want full execution proofs can run CDK on op-reth instead, which connects to the same Agglayer network.
