Just blend the hand-dyed yarn
Working single strand on a crocheted sweater pattern.
First picture: not blended. Didn’t realize until I took it to a different room with cleaner lighting that the bottom portion pulls blue and the top pulls pink.
Frogged 18 inches of single crochet. Yeah, I hurt my own feelings.
Second pic: alternating two rows of ball one and two rows of ball two while carrying the yarn up on the turns.
Just take the sage wisdom of fiber crafters who came before and blend your hand-dyed yarn. Save yourself the choice of the mis-match or the frog.

New England Yarn Tour
I am from Phoenix, AZ. This last week, my mom and I roadtripped around New England for the leaf-peeping journey of a lifetime. When I travel, I like to stop by a LYS and purchase yarn that is local as possible. Then, I knit a pair of socks with that yarn. Ideally using a pattern that in some way represents that state! Therefore, my #1 to-do on this trip was to stop in a yarn store in every state we visited. Here is how it went…
Stop #1: Simsbury, CT
Simsbury Yarns - I loved this place. There was a table filled with people knitting, and even a doggy greeter. The individual who helped me was so kind, and they had a great selection in a very large space. There is also a cafe upstairs where we had brunch that was incredible.
Stop #2: Boston, MA
Boston Fiber Company - Also an awesome stop. They had such unique items, including yarn containing possum fiber from Australia! THAT was a first, and now I want to knit a sweater someday using possum fiber. The person working there was also so kind, and had great information on locally dyed yarn. I love that Toil & Trouble yarn was dyed in Salem, MA. The dyer owns a store there called Circle of Stitches—so cute!
Stop #3: Waterbury, VT (just outside of Stowe)
Yarn - Yup, that’s the name of the store lol. I was given a lovely tour, and the individual working taught me about what it means to wear colors meant for your color type. Unfortunately they didn’t have TOO much local yarn because Rhinebeck had just happened the previous weekend. However, Line By Line was locally dyed.
Stop #4: Bethlehem, NH
LYS (Love Yarn Shop) - I love when I walk into a yarn store and a bunch of people are sitting around chatting and knitting. It’s such an immediately welcoming environment. This was super cute and cozy with a large selection of yarn that was, ironically, dyed in Vermont lol. The visit had to be quick since it was a stop while we were driving to Maine, but you could easily spend time there chatting and making friends!
Stop #5: Portland, ME
The Purling Pigeon - I love birds, and the concept of a pigeon mascot makes me so happy. I LOVE the colors that the store owner dyed. They were incredible, and so unique. They’re by far my favorite store-owner-dyed yarn. They also had SUCH cute knick-knacks, and the individual working was SO lovely. Something that stood out to me is how welcoming she was to new knitters. Two of them separately stopped by looking for supplies for their very first knits, and the employee was so patient, kind and enthusiastic.
Overall, even though I spent way more than I expected (the exact amount is between me and my Chase Freedom card), I am thrilled to have these souvenirs from my trip. Please let me know if you have any questions and I’d be happy to try and answer them! I’ll just be over here knitting my state socks!
Edit: TIL American Opossum’s and Australian Possum’s are completely different animals lol.

Dog hair for yarn
Has anyone used dog hair to spin into yarn and then knit a scarf with it? A friend has been collecting hair from their dog, plans to have it spun into yarn, and asked me to knit a scarf with it as a surprise for his partner. I plan to combine the dog hair yarn with another worsted yarn, but I don’t know how it will work.

Yarn recommendations for a beard-proof scarf?
Knitting a scarf for a guy with a beard/stubble. Or at least I intend to untill he annoys me enough to dump this idea 🤦♀️
I need a yarn that's warm for cold climate, doesn't pill (like at all) from stubble rubbing against it, and isn't itchy. I'd like to go into a natural blend, or with as little plastic as possible.
What has held up best for you?
Any brands or blends to try or avoid?

I am currently in Germany on vacation and was hoping I could find affordable yarn (yarn is expensive where I live). I am looking for advice on where I should look. I am near Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg

Gepard pura lana quality review?
Thinking of ordering it. Did anyone use this yarn before and can tell me if the price is worth it? Would like to know how soft or scratchy, durable and pilling resistant it is. And if its suitable particularly for sensitive skin.

Yarn dyeing adventure
So, these skeins are for two different projects. The berroco vintage is for a baby blanket and the Stitch Please is for another blanket, going to make a giant star. Didn't care for the color options available, so decided to do some color adjustments, get some variegated colors going on for depth and dimension.
For the baby blanket, a 12 point star, I ended up not dyeing the two darkest green colors, but pictures 2 and 3 are of the yellow and the light green, consecutively, i decided last night while working on it that I actually also need a plain yellow, so that is on order.
Stitch Please... originally a very pale yellow that I loathed in it's entirety, looked super ugly while hanging up to dry after adding a bunch more color to it. Didn't like the way it looks like a big ol mess, actually considered just doing a bath of some dark color and then give it away, but after starting to wind it into balls, I am IN LOVE WITH IT. I cannot wait to get started with it. I know it would look amazing with knit, but my project is a crochet project. Over 600 yards total, I might need to find a five point star knitting pattern, if those exist, and give that a try. Or make something else with it. Or just knit a little swatch to keep forever because I know this will knit up so beautifully.
This round of dyeing made me realize just how often I am always looking for variegated yarn to pair with an expensive, eccentric yarn colorway, and sometimes something can be found, but it not a lot to choose from in the way of colors. Idk if this is something other people have noticed and or needed?

What would be your guess?
No label. I would say that it smells like hair burnt with a straightener.

What would you make with this?
Was recently gifted a bunch of ‘yarn’ from a friend’s trip to Egypt. It’s labeled as macrame cord but I have never done macrame and was hoping I could use this for some knitting or crochet project. It doesn’t have much stretch nor a gauge anywhere in the package so I’m thinking of maybe winging a Sophie scarf and see how it works up?

In Search of Trout Yarn
Hello fellow yarn lovers!
I really want to knit my husband a trout sweater! He has been a fly fishing guide for over a decade and was so disappointed when I found out the trout yarn is discontinued...
If anyone has skeins of colorway 4 or 5, please let me know! I need 4 skeins, but happy to piece it together if I need to. I will pay for the yarn and shipping, even if it is coming from another country.
Thank you!
Stephanie

Quality issues with Yarn Bee Dream Spun
Hello all, I recently purchased this yarn to make a chunky beanie. That is beside the point though. Has anyone ever bought this yarn before and had these random factory tied knots randomly in the middle? I have only ever seen this with this brand and specific type from this brand.

Removing lanolin from a sweater
Hello all! I hope this isn't too off topic. A few years ago I received a beautiful sweater as a Christmas gift. I really love it but I can not be in the same room with it without sneezing and I have pretty gnarly reactions to lanolin in cosmetics. Is there any way to remove the lanolin from already knit garment without ruining it or should I find a new home for my sweater?

What to do with this sweater?
I bought this gorgeous sweater second hand online and when it arrived it discovered it has three big holes in the back, many small holes/dropped stitches, old repairs and worn down fibers. It’s definitely not wearable as is.
It’s gorgeous fabric, I think 100% wool. You’ll never catch me throwing it away.
What would you do with it? Is it salvageable as a sweater at all? Or just make something else with it?
One of my cats landed on it as soon as it came out of the mailbag. He loves it. So I was thinking maybe make a felted cat nest?
Open to any and all ideas!
Thank you!

Help! In search of BC Garn Allino Color 29 Light Blue
Am just about to finish my first top down (Moreca Knits Chantal Top) and my instructor miscalculated the yarn qty. I don't need a whole skein/ball or even a half. A third of a ball would be great. Everything was purchased long before the tariff fiasco so having to spend for a new skein would be such a bummer for only a few yards...
