Rules update for r/Valdosta

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a quick update highlighting the fact that we have proper rules for the subreddit in place now. This allows us to keep the community friendly and crust-free. Please read the following a and refer to the sidebar in the future if necessary. Mods still reserve the right to remove posts or ban users as necessary, even if it falls outside of these rules, depending on the situation.

when will the library reopen?

Genuinely, it’s been 2 years what’s going on? Is there any concrete date/timeline for reopening the library? Is there anybody who knows or is possibly working on it that could give an update?

I’m aware of the Southside library, but it’s very out of the way for me and has a far more limited selection. I just miss my local library.

Colonial Mall Valdosta - United Artists / Georgia Theater Company Photo

Does anyone have any photos of the UA Movies 6 at the Valdosta Mall when it was open? I can only seem to find a photo of JC Penny with the UA Movies small sign in the corridor and a newspaper article of someone standing in front of a screen. I know it had an external entrance by JC Penny and was eventually partially demolished when JC Penny had their expansion. Bonus Question: Is there anything left of the theater on the inside of the mall that was not demolished? The space is still vacant after 20+ years.

Big Boom???

Morning Valdosta, I was enjoy the morning rain from my Airbnb porch when a huge BOOM (crash/loud strike) happened out in the world and then within a millisecond the whole area shook and rubbled, not violently, almost like a giant push, or a wave, the trees in the yard, the window pains, the house itself all shook and moved for that short millisecond! .... and then just now I was inside and my roommates and I swore we all just heard and felt it again. For reference we are northeast ish of town... any of yall know what's happening out there?

Winn-Dixie Nostalgia Delivery

This is a bit of an unusual request, but I’m hoping the Valdosta-to-Atlanta pipeline can come through!

I have a friend who grew up in Jacksonville, FL and has a serious nostalgic attachment to Winn-Dixie, specifically Chek sodas! Since Winn-Dixie is a South GA/North FL thing and isn’t really accessible here in Atlanta, I’m trying to surprise them with a few of their favorite/nostalgic items from back home.

So I’m looking for someone who:
• Is coming to Atlanta from Valdosta sometime soon
• Would be willing to stop by Winn-Doxie and pick up a few items for me
• Has enough room in their car/luggage to bring them along
• Would be okay coordinating a handoff somewhere around Atlanta

I’d obviously pay you back for the groceries, and I’m happy to throw in something extra for the favor/gas/your trouble. I can also make the shopping list ridiculously easy. 😂

This is genuinely just a little surprise for someone I care about, and I’d love to give them that “OMG, I haven’t had this since I was a kid!” feeling.

If you’re making the drive from Valdosta to Atlanta soon and might be willing to help, please DM me! Bonus points if you really love Winn-Dixie too 😂
Thanks, y’all! ❤️

Why is it so hard to Volunteer as a 9 - 5er in Valdosta

I am trying to volunteer and be more active in the community, but it feels impossible as someone who works a 9-to-5 job. I tried going to LAMP, a local soup kitchen, and other places, but it seems like all the volunteering stops at 4 pm. Does anyone know where I can volunteer that is open later in the day? (preferably not animal shelters)

Moving soon!

Hey y’all

I’m finishing up school and I have a job at the hospital when I’m done. I’m looking to move in December. I’ve been scouring Zillow and the other sites but I’m not finding a whole lot. Anyone got any leads on a small house for rent near SGMC?

TIA
